Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

If you can survive on 2006 skis there seem to be some quite good offers at the moment

A few deals caught my eye. The Atomic MX:9 (touring version but effectively the same ski as the Diran although I think the Diran has a Magnesium topsheet) from Conrad for 200 euros (about 120 quid). The Atomic Sweet Daddy is also very heavily discounted (under 200 quid from slush and rubble). This is basically a MX:15 touring ski with a nicer top sheet and is very similar to the Tacora. The main thing I don't like about the Diran/MX:9 is the longevity which probably comes down to the core. After around 50 days mine were very tired and had lost a lot of their "elan". Everyone I have spoken to about this ski says the same thing.

Just goes to prove the old saw of buying last year's skis in the summer. If you can find the right length.

Does the size of the discount say anything about the ski?

If anyone has seen other deals perhaps you can post them below.

davidof, the size of discount would say a few possible things to me:

1. They didn't sell as well as expected
or
2. The shop put a big markup on them
or
3. The model is radically different next year, or dropped.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yes seems reasonable. Even if the topsheet has changed (which they seem to do most seasons) you would probably have to discount the old stock.

Regarding sales, this may be the punters seeing through the marketing and recognising a dog of a ski for what it is?

Hi Brian

Did you see that Filarinskis had the Legend 4800 at 200 quid?

http://www.filarinskis.co.uk/

I liked this ski, it seemed to be a big improvement on the old 4x4 in terms of edge hold on hard snow.

davidof, Volkl AC4 from Sport Conrad is certainly a bargain at 250 euros. It was one of my favourites in the April ski test in VT.

JT, Konrad is doing the 04/05 Karma for 250 euro. Not a bad deal. Maybe I'll pop down to Garmisch this weekend.
