Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Fiesch or Bettmeralp (Switzerland)

We discovered Aletsch Arena last year as part of our Porte du Soleil passes, loved it so much we want to go for half term. We only went for the day and started in Riederalp and only made it as far over as Bettmeralp.

I have two choices of accommodation- one in Fiesch, 10 min walk from the cable car or one in Bettmeralp which is obvs car free and pretty much ski in ski out. Prices are the same.

Am leaning towards Bettmeralp. But am all decisioned out right now. Any thoughts from anyone who knows that area well?

Thanks!

You may have posed a problem @Missy, amongst "70000" Snowheads very few will know this area well. 22 years since I last skied there. For what it's worth, go with Bettmeralp.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

If I need to choose between having a winter vacation where I'm staying at 1000 m altitude in a village next to a major access road and a train rail or climbing to 2000 m altitude in a quieter mountain spot with amazing views, I'll always go for the mountain.
Be it Bettmeralp, Avoriaz or Wengen.
YMMV

Shhhhhh dont tell them! We stay in Bettmeralp or Riederalp rather than in the valley. We are ski & flop folk so happy to eat in for dinner and have lunch on the mountain. Check out Disentis if you like Swiss resorts that are relatively off the UK radar

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I've stayed in Bettmeralp in the past and I'd go back. Great area to ski and very much off the international/UK radar. Other similar areas to visit include Sedrun/Andermatt,Grimentz, Arrola and all accessible via SBB rail and post bus.
