 Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi all,
We will be staying at Courmayeur for a week of ski, and I was wondering where to rent our boots and skis.
Specifically I saw that there are a few shops in Plan Checrouit - which seems to be the most convenient in terms of proximity to the slopes, and if we need to change boots etc.
Would you recommend that over renting down (e.g. next to the Dolonne station?)
Thank you!

I did that and it was excellent and very convenient… on the next trip I stayed in Entreves and rented at the base of Val Veny and it was absolutely fine too.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Friends of ours rented up the mountain and it was very convenient as they left them in a locker up there for the whole trip. However please bear in mind that La Thuile is fairly close by and I'd definitely recommend having at least one day skiing over there if possible. You'd just have to remember to bring them down the night before if you decide to give that a try.

I rented from Plan Checrouit and it was such an easy way of doing things. Just wander down to the big cable car from your hotel in your hiking boots etc then at the top it’s a hundred yards or so to the hire shop. Then your ski boots and skis are there warm and ready to go.
On the two days I went to Pila and La Thuile it’s easy enough to carry them down on the cable car and keep them in the hotel ski room.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@eladm, I've used Savoye Sports at Pre de Pascal at the top of the Val Veny Cable Car. I've always reckoned that Val Veny is the better access to Courmayeur's skiing as you avoid the frequent queues at Plan Checrouit.

I’m afraid I can’t remember the name of the shop - it was about 15 years ago though!!
It was the shop Inghams used. Just Googled it and of the few that are up there Lo Chalet seems to ring a bell most, fairly confident it was that.
I liked Courmayer, nice town and spectacular views. Definitely take a trip to Pila and La Thuile while you’re there if you’ve not been before. You can get the bus to La Thuile easy enough from Courmayer bus station. The Pila trip was with Inghams.
There’s a really nice run down from Plan Checrouit to a chair lift, it has lots of hairpin bends and is great fun. Also well worth taking a trip up the cable car to Punte Helbrunner, it’s around 3500m. I just went up for the views one afternoon, I think it’s for expert off piste skiers only! The views of Mont Blanc and looking south/east are amazing.
Enjoy.

@eladm, we’ve used Lo Chalet 5 times and found them very good in all aspects, especially after they upgraded the storage area, if it’s busy inside there’s benches outside which I found more comfortable.
I’m back there in Feb, if you could let me know what sort of prices you get as they seem more expensive this year compared to the one at the bottom of the gondola.

I've used Alpineve many times in Courmayeur. Super convenient as it's actually in the top Gondola station, down one flight if stairs / lift as you get out. Nice people. Usually mail them to pre book and get a bit of a discount.
Been a few years since last there. Just checked and seem to have revamped their booking site www.alpineve.it
