Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Attaching iPhone to ski pole

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Does anyone know of a way of attaching an iPhone to a ski pole please? I want to use the ski pole as a sort of selfie stick to film my daughter skiing. It will only be on straightforward runs and only for a minute at a time. But I want to be able to remove it easily so that I can use my poles for skiing.
Many thanks.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Looks simple enough, though whenever I’ve used my phone to video anyone, I’ve generally just held it and followed/skied by/skied backwards or been stationary.

Proper telescopic selfie stick with Bluetooth control buttons on the handle. Ours collapses to perhaps six inches, can go in a pocket when not used.

When I tried to film my children on iPhone it died within a couple of minutes as wind chill froze the battery.

Why do you need it on a pole if you’re filming someone else?

@bouquetin, I thought I might drop it. But you’re right. Would probably be easier just to hold it. I could use my GoPro but I don’t like carrying it around and I always catch it on the lift safety bar.

Your GoPro, if its reasonably modern (i.e. 7 onwards) will probably have significantly better stability correction. don't put it on your helmet, just hold it or use a pole mount like you thought of before. That way you get much better control of where you are pointing it while riding alongside your daughter, and can get in closer to film. Thats pretty much how I've done any of the filming I've done for quite a while now.

Simple solution to this. Put a gopro mount on your pole, near the pole handle. I leave the mount on my pole permanently, upside down so it can be folded back out of the way when not in use. You will either need to cut off your pole strap or use some gaffer to tape it out of the way so it does not flap in the frame when filming. Flip your pole and hold by the other end when filming, with the gopro mount flipped out to an angle that suits. That way you can slip the gopro into the mount whenever you want to film. And having it on a pole means access to more and better angles as well as making the whole process easier. It does not take long to learn how best to use the set-up.

Is it only me that sees the irony here?

I do get the irony but I’ll be carrying my phone no matter what.

What @zikomo said.
Mount your GoPro to the handle end of your ski pole.
Just be aware that it gets quite heavy and unwieldy quite quickly at that distance from your hand.
It will definitely be more stable than your iPhone (if it's relatively new, as @Richard Sideways says) and the battery will probably last longer too.
