Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Les Arcs or Flaine March help

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello all.

Looking to book one of these two resorts for around 22-28th March. Haven’t had much experience with France so just researching as much as possible.

How would the snow me around this time?

3 guys, mid 30’s, mainly red runs.

Finding deals for everything included, around £550 for 5 nights. Seems too good to be true?

All help is appreciated.
Thanks

It is probably too good to be true. The lift pass alone will consume a large part of that.

Anyway, i'd say the snow at the end of March in les arcsis usually OK to good.

France in general, and certainly the two you listed, are ski in ski out (some regard as a plus), less charm than other areas, less majestic mountains than some (Dolomites for example), with mostly average apres but with many big interlinked convenient ski areas (and smaller ones too).

Excellent.

Would need a lot more detail to know that.

@nba2005uk, I've a great affection and extensive visit to both of these, often in March.... would pick Les Arcs at those date and group mix.

Me too. Like both, but would go with Les Arcs...unless I got a much better deal to go to Flaine. Skullie

Sunweb for the deal. Room only basis sorry but includes everything else. Les Arcs slightly more expensive but not much in it.

After all it is free Go on u know u want to!

@nba2005uk, well Sunweb is well used and known so shouldn't be any issues.

Only caveats are:

1) You may get the runt of the litter in terms of apartment

2) When I've cross checked against an agency booking I've actually not found much difference in price and/or found it cheaper. And I'd rather deal with an immo/agency direct - though I've not heard any horror stories about Sunweb or Snowtrex (the other similar company)

I presume you have flights all sorted then?

Are you hiring a car or needing a transfer?

Which station/building in Les Arcs is it?

I’d go to les arcs that time of year.

Couple of hotels to choose from 4* in the centre.

Have to add on our own transfer though, who do you guys use? I see Bens Bus around £90 for Geneve airport.

Only get the standard lift pass but think we can upgrade to Paridiski for £25 per day?

How does Alpe D Huez and Les Menuires compare?

Cheers

@Layne, I've been pricing up a possible holiday in April in the Tarentaise and am finding Sunweb considerably cheaper than going direct for self catering apartments.
@johnE, I've seen Sunweb deals where the accommodation plus lift pass price is barely above the lift pass only price. They must have some amazing volume deals with the lift operators.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

For Les Arcs we either rent a car or use SNCF from Geneva.

Have I misunderstood something but does the £500 deal not include flights and transfers.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

So £550 for accommodation (room only) and ‘everything else’? What is the everything else other than seemingly a local lift pass? Skis and boots? Lessons?

And what/where is the accommodation itself?

 You know it makes sense.

Local lift passes are only available for single days. A 5 day Les Arcs pass is less expensive than 5 single day local lift passes. The OP was saying that if he wants to visit La Plagne it will cost him an extra €25 for that day.

£550 for hotel, flights, skis/boots, lift pass. Considering the lift pass is around £250 alone i thought it was a good deal. Much better than I’ve previously paid.

You might be able to get near that figure in Flaine or Les Arcs in this way but it will be tight. Both lovely areas - although some of the Flaine outlying villages are a bit low. Les Arcs is a great place to ski and slightly easier on the eye.
You might achieve that magical £550 figure if you tried Les Deux Alpes and flew to Grenoble with a Bens Bus - but you are sacrificing masses of quality skiing for a smaller and limited area.
The other option is drive

Accom: VRBO/Air BnB - One accommodation cost divided by 3. Or Sunweb as passes come as part of the deal
Flights: Easy Jet to Geneva
Transfers: Bens Bus or equivalent
Lift Passes: 5 days Tribu
