A snowHead
I'll kick this off,
Went over the le Bessat in the Loire this morning, the Mont du Pilat is visible from Lyon to the south. Conditions were a bit rock and roll as they have had about 20cm of snow pisted down to 5-10cm using a snowscooter. No classic tracks.

Obviously
A snowHead isn't a real person

Shouldn't this be "the long, thin cross country thread"?
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@adithorp , I've put on weight
but I understand that Serre Chevalier's resident Xcountry vet @weathercam is slimmer and fitter than ever

Lovely clip @davidof , delightful tracks through the forest. Trees looked fantastic at one location.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Change of scene from the Loire / Massif Central to the Bugey / Jura and the superb plateau de Retord. A 20km easy tour this morning, foggy at first but turning to sun later. The Alpine ski area is also open.

shame it is just a bit too low to have reliable snow cover. Currently around 30 - 40cm but it won't resist a change in weather.
A before breakfast ski in the freezing cold on largely icy pistes but nice sunrise and some crust skiing on the fields with a song rework
snow held up remarkably well at 930 meters - after torrential and tropical rain and storm force winds but just 30 meters lower down: green fields.

Can't share any experience with this thread, but have to say those videos do tempt me to give it a try.

@rob@rar , do - it’s a different experience and fun, I’ve enjoyed my trips even if I fall each time.
As most folk know, one of my boys is quite handy on the skinny skis
