Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Geneva car hire with ski rack?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

Any advice on best car hire company from Geneva Airport? 3 passengers with luggage and 2 sets of skis. Is it absolutely necessary to get ski racks or has anyone transported skis just with dropped back seats as only need 1 passenger in the back?

Thanks in advance!

Rich

You’ll be fine renting a large estate. Done it many times with similar load no issue.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Even a smaller estate should be no problem.

Any main rental car co on site (well in P51 parking) is fine. Check an aggregator site. Book with free cancellation then check again periodically and arbitrage the booking.

Also check booking direct and join their loyalty schemes so you can beat the queues.

We usually get an estate as have four people to carry but with only 3 passengers you could get away with a cheaper sedan even a decent sized hatch back, depending on how much additional luggage you have.

@Richpark, did 3 of us in a Yaris SW (ever so slightly bigger Yaris). I think probably just the one big ski bag but there's always the option of removing the skis from the bag for slightly easier packing. People would be surprised how much you can Tetris into a small car when you need to.

I don't think you even need a large estate. Focus/Golf/octavia/308 would be fine. On occasion when people have stuffed a big ski bag with clothes etc we've found it better to take the skis out of the bag.

There are lost of reported incidents of people booking ski racks and finding they weren't actually available at the airport so I'd be reluctant to rely on that.

I do recommend these though:

We keep a set in our flat and use them if we a hire a small car and want to drive to the ski lifts in the morning. Easily packable in your luggage.

We normally request a Skoda Octavia from Hertz as the ones they provide are also AWD. Hertz are often more expensive but found them to offer the best and fastest service.

Skis in front passenger seat, 2 passengers in the back. Even a Polo would be fine.

Like @jedster, I'm also a big fan of the handiracks.
