Fellow SnowHeads,
Looking for an instructor in Val d'Isere to help me improve my technique with a couple of half day sessions in January.
Thanks in advance,
Alex

Any of the TDC bunch really. Also Simon McCombe and James Allen at the newly formed Elevation (www.elevationskischool.com), Ken Smith at Progression, Rupert Goldring or Clare Burns at Mountain Masters.

Great list.
I first booked Simon Mc Combe (and indeed Dave Cowell) when he worked for the English division of Snowfun @ €90 for the afternoon. A fantastic Instructor, who by complete chance, I happened to bump into in Jan, going up the Funicular from La Daille. Despite a 20 year gap, he remembered both myself/Lady F and my Kids, who he helped all those years ago.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Hucking cliffs over 50 ft may be optimistic, wouldn't recommend more than 30 ft if only three half days and starting as an intermediate.

Any advice for XC lessons at val d’isere/tignes?
I might scrape intermediate level in classic and rival Bambi on ice for skate skiing.

 You know it makes sense.

Quick note to say thanks (@oldfartbag) for the Simon McCombe recommendation. We had a three hour lesson with him this afternoon and we all (there were three of us) thought he was exceptional... easily the best private lesson any of us have had.
Maybe we haven't been proactive enough in the past but, all too often, we've had private lessons that consisted of a few cursory drills followed by a tour of the mountain, perhaps with a perfunctory video that is then just emailed after the fact. Whereas, today with Simon, he fully utilised the three hours to give us achievable, concrete things to change in our skiing, which he reinforced and progressively added to. He also made really good use use of video technology, with a super-informative freeze-frame analysis of each of us over hot chocolate, before we then went back out each with a specific point to address.
I know when I write it down it doesn't sound much (shouldn't all lessons be like that??) but, like I say, we all said how much better this lesson was than some we've had in the past... so thanks for the recommendation.
