Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@BobinCH, not heard anything specific, and even if I did it would probably be wrong info Laughing

That said a mate from California is still coming to stay in LG at the Edelweiss Feb 1st but his guide has said it's still possible the lift will not be fixed by then. Also have other friends who have the same guide for a week and I'll be with one of those more over the coming weeks so we'll nag about that etc

As for here, I'm sure many have been looking at what the forecasts have in store for the coming week, and it is very unsettled and really will be a case of look out the window or at the webcam to see what is actually happening vs the forecast.

This is a comparison for late Monday going into Tuesday.

Yesterday was -10 at 08:30 and I made the mistake of going cross-country skiing as it looked lovely, but when it's that cold the skis do not glide well and ended up a very tough workout.

Then twas back home and a quick turnaround to get up the hill to take some pics of a friend proposing, which was full of logistics, more on that in this thread https://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=171650

Grateful for opinions/info/help from any Serre Chevalier residents/experts/saisonnaires.

Will be in Serre Chevalier in Jan and Feb, arriving 24/1, leaving end of day on 8/2/25, so will have 15 skiing days. Will want a "whole area" pass and am trying, from the S.C. website, to work-out what the best "deal" will be, but am confused...

Weather allowing, I will ski all 15 days.

Assuming it's available at S.C., I'd want to add/benefit from "Assurance Piste".

On the above bases, from what I can work-out, it seems to me that the "Ski a la Carte" option would be cheapest for me, but can anyone tell me, please, if I have got that right? Or would the "Pass Saison Ski Illimite" option in fact be cheaper? I don't think a "standard" 15 days' pass would be cheaper, from the maths I've done - but am I right about that?

Finally, concerning the "&joy" fast-track lift access, can this be added, as an "extra" option to a "standard," whole area, 15 days' pass - or is it just available on the various season passes (it seems like the latter to me, but I am not clear on this) (?) - and will "&joy" in fact be worth it/necessary/useful during 25/1-8/2/25? Am staying in Chantemerle, if that's relevant.

Grateful in advance for anyinfo/opinions/help. Thanks.

@CB4, if you plan on having a couple of days doing stuff other than skiing, I think Ski Ala Carte is the best option. Day 9 and 14 will be 1€ if you have skied every day. You probably won't need the queue jumping option for that week as pistes should be relatively quiet. You can add the insurance onto the Ski Ala Carte card when you order it at 19€ for the whole season.

Thanks for your response, Hells Bellis, that's helpful. There won't be anything other than skiing...I'd seen the bit about days 9 and 14 on "Ski a la Carte"...

If anyone else has the same (or other) thoughts about this as Hells Bells, please do shout-out - including, especially, about whether "&joy" will be useful/worth it, over 25 Jan - 8 Feb, and whether that could be added to a "standard," whole area, 15 days' pass - I can see it can't be added to "Ski a la Carte".

Thanks in advance.

@KenX, many thanks, KenX. When I looked at details for "Ski a la Carte" I couldn't see that possibility mentioned and also assumed you couldn't add &Joy because "Ski a la Carte" is something you can use in different resorts.

However, I haven't bought "Ski a la Carte" yet, so is there a function to do that, do you know, as you go through the on-line purchase process for it, or is that something you can/have to add in person at a lift pass office in Serre Chevalier?

Sorry for yet another post about this and thanks again, in advance for any light you can shed...

@CB4, it can be added on during the purchase. Once you have chosen your resort, added a card, it will become clearer.

So, a short day today as I am still feeling fragile from my flu over NY, but snow is superb. I didn't anticipate the 'off-piste' needed tp get to the hot chocolate, but it was superb.

We were very disappointed waking up to just a dangerously icy terrace, as no overnight snow, just rain which had frozen solid.

The webcams were showing much better conditions and we went for first lifts, and there was hardly anyone around!

First run we dropped a clanger as we were bottoming out on the frozen crud below, so we changed direction and headed for Vallons which was a good move, though with three or so UCPCA Off-Piste groups of 12 or so it quickly was tracked, but I'm being very fussy as all it meant you just had to traverse/hike a little more to get to the untracked.

After a couple of Vallons we headed back to the Mea sector and skied some of our favourite lines, all untracked and by the time we called it a day there was still plenty to be had.

The playground Cool

So probably best day of the season, but again, we did not get the snow that was forecast, and again no snow in the valley, which means the XC track from here up the Valley is still not open, and this is the worrying trend, sorry to be negative, but it is a concern.

That said I'm sure many today and one of their best ever bluebird skiing days, and I'm waiting to touch base with a mate who often does Chamonix to see what he thought about today.

Weather forecast showing further unsettles conditions but not nothing substantial in terms of accumulation(s) Mad

So looking at this even without the loyalty day it is still cheaper to ski 12 days than buying a pass?
Are the fast track lanes clearly signposted at the lifts and can we still lift together if we use the &joy line?
We are leaving Thursday arriving Saturday do we collect our pass at the lift office as normal?

Thanks in anticipation

As for the fast-track points, they are clearly signed as &joy at the lift base. Doesn't apply to all of the lifts. Not sure there's going to be many queues though, very quiet today.

And from Meteo Alpes Durance FB

In our rather unusual winter this year, disruptions are expected every day through Saturday.

And the next disturbance will take place next night (Tuesday night to Wednesday) with an LPN starting around 1000m and rising around 2200m late night and Wednesday morning!

The LPN will fluctuate around 1700/1800m for Thursday and over 2100/2200m for Friday under a vigorous Westerly current. And so, a certain sweetness in our valleys.

We will have to wait until Sunday for the current to turn and the air to cool down in a weather that will then be permanently drier.

You get it, the lower valleys won't have seen much snow this Winter and that's not ready to change. Below 1200/1300m, this is one of the worst winters (to date) in terms of snowfall in over 10 years at least.

Patience is not enough anymore. Gotta beg to the snow gods! Toofy Grin

Except we don't have a cross-country piste here, which we had last year, and there was far far more snow at altitude*!

That said pistes are in good nick after the hols, helped by the recent snow.

First visit to SC and likes it. Wind scalping at altitude though Shocked snow and effect on body.

Sounds like a decent week so far.

Quick question for those that know how, we have signed up for alacarte but it doesn't say what you need to collect your pass. On the MyTribe bit it just says subscription on hold even though the payment has gone through.

Tale of two halves yesterday!

I opted to ski-tour up from Boussardes early having cleared 10cm off the terrace and van, as it was still very cloudy and viz would be an issue up top.

Still a fair amount of snow on the main road up to Le Lauzet and then a little tricky getting down to Boussardes (1,600m) where parking up temps were already on the rise and the snow was definitely not cold powder any more!

No-one else there so had to break trail which progressively became harder as the temps rose.

I could just about make out a ski track from the day before so keeping to that was not too bad.

I was actually testing, under stress as it were, a shell jacket from RevolutionRace I've been using this past month and the conditions proved more than adequate for that, as the inner sweat monster in me was very active indeed, with me dropping my last layer, just down to a base and the jacket and the same for the descent.

In the end the snow was just getting too heavy and I was conscious of my knee, so called it a day at just under 400m plus there was the little matter of limited viz.

The ski back down was ok but nowhere like the day before and I could feel the legs by the end of each pitch, but still a good sortie.

By the time I was back down so the cloud had lifted and twas sunny and then later I heard from @KenX, that above 2,100m the snow was not too bad, so basically I messed up, should have gone later (second half of the day) and higher (second half of the mountain) from the Lautaret rolling eyes

Skin track through the forest.

Back down a different day!

La Lauzet church 15 mins later after getting down!

Day offski today, resting the knee after that heavy snow, and it's raining HARD on the terrace with the snowline at around 1,850 though have to keep telling myself not to go up and take a look Laughing

This is pretty well a repeat of last year I think when the SnowKite Masters was happening at the Lautaret, as in this year, and the weather was grim again.

If only this was snow, but alas I think it's the new norm Sad

I was going to have a day off-ski but in the end temptation was too much, and I was blessed with better viz than earlier Cool

Very tracked out by the time I left, as everyone was sticking to just below the trees for the viz but high enough to avoid the heavier snow, but my definition of tracked out is just a few tracks here and there Laughing
