Helicopter just landed opposite the apartment, and a couple of ambulances, and sapeurs pompiers vehicles in car park. Might just be an exercise.

@Wylie66, Thanks Wylie. Having looked into the Ski a la Carte pass collection further, post-purchase, am now even "surer" it'll be an easy process of "pick up at lift pass office on presentation of relevant confirmation email/payment receipt" and that the lift pass person will "make" your pass for you, there and then. But, as previously, do plse confirm if that's right, when you have a min when you're "on site"...
Btw, and in case you haven't seen already, one can access/print/download one's payment receipt from one's Ski a la Carte acc/, if need be.
Hope you're able to sort your travel and that travel is, indeed, in the course of going smoothly as I type this.
Sorry for delay responding, some IT issues.
No issue collecting pass, we just went into the Pass office located in the old Frejus lift building, showed the confirmation email and logged in webpage showing tribe. pass duly issued.
|
Just to double check on this because it's not very clear and the 'delivery option' on the webpage was a blank box so no option to select local collection! I just take my booking email (with the account number etc) to the lift pass office to collect? The email doesn't talk about how to get your pass! (I'm not skiing in Serre C but Tignes but I assume the process will be the same - I've just searched the forum for other people getting passes from Ski a la Carte this year!)

@Mr_Bennetts_Ski_Trip, delivery/collection may be different for other resorts. For instance, there is no option to collect a pass in the 3V, but not sure about Tignes.

Thanks, it does state all the Tignes lift pass offices are collection points on the relevant page on the website, but it doesn’t say anything about how to get your passes on the member part nor on the email! I’ve sent them a message on the website so if I get anything will add it here just for reference!

Was that near the chair in Monetier about 10.30 this morning?
If so they were loading the search Doggies onto the helicopter for training, there were a lot of them doing an exercise near the top of Vallons lift.
I have a great video of the chopper

Yes just rock up to a pass office with your email or webpage account page open and they will issue you a card.
The only resort that doesn't have this facility is 3 valleys.

@Wylie66, yes OH saw the exercise going on yesterday as well.
Meanwhile I was beasting myself up in the Granon / Gardiole sector (opposite the Serre Che pistes), schoolboy error in that I didn't concentrate on the forecast thinking it was to be another sunny day and not the cloud and chill wind which certainly did not help the conditions for Spring snow, which was there the day before when I went up on the e-mtb to scope them out
Climbing up I so nearly called it a day a good few times, but I masochistically persevered, in the end deciding on the actual Col itself as opposed to the Gardiole as there was better snow to be head on the West facing slopes next to and in the forest as the whole Gardiole playground had been ravaged by the strong winds
That was actually a first for me ski-touring to the Col as I've run, hiked, and biked up there so so many times.
We did manage to get some turns in and by the end it was combat skiing through the bushes and on grass
Horribly leant over this morning, and we're skinning up to the Refuge Napoleon, with my daughter, her first climb on skis!

Well that was quite a week, packing a lot in, after the above climb to the Granon, the next day went up to the Col d'Izoard and a well-earned lunch at the Refuge Napoleon.
It was Loulou, my daughter's first big skin to be sure boots and all the gear was good, only issue was she like me was a little leant over, so not ideal prep
I pushed on and headed up to the actual Col bagging me second one in as many days.
And then it was a day off as I'd foolishly decided to join the OH in running the Serre Che Trail run this morning, and seems crazy that I can do a run like that which is very challenging (11km 600m climbing, sheet ice --> knee deep snow) and knee is fine, whilst piste skiing twinges like crazy
Big turnout of runners for the weekend's events.
So after nigh on two weeks of glorious sunshine, looks like a change is on the cards, though the forecasts are changing every run.
Wednesday and Thursday look like the days, and as ever with the new norm the question will be where will the snow-line be.
So we'll have a better idea come Tuesday, and even then that won't be 100%

@Weathercam, @KenX, TBH I have spent so many years enjoying your updates from Serre Che it only seem fair to return the favour........ I'll be sure to keep you updated. Reminds me of the time I went to ski for the day in Montgeneve from Serre Che to seek better conditions, when I should have stayed put.

Hi all, after a quick bit of practical advice please for our trip next month.
Last year we drove in via the Frejus tunnel due to Lautaret being closed so I don't how bad traffic could typically be on the D1091 getting past AdH and L2A? We're driving down overnight this year so will be getting through the area on the early side if all goes smoothly.
Second question is about parking in Chantemerle on our arrival day (15th Feb). I see town centre parking is now paid which I don't mind for a few hours but question is will we find a space or do they all get filled up with day trippers arriving first thing?
Thanks!

@Snowtunes, will very much depend on the weather!
As you know 15th is high season holidays and the road will be very busy and Grenoble going up ADH and on past LDA will be a bit of a nightmare I'm afraid. After the LDA turn and damn hopefully will ease up for you.
Parking in Chantemerle will also be difficult but as it's a major transfer day, again hopefully not too bad.

And as for conditions today it was very very wet sitting on the Bachas chair, we skied off from the top to do the various pistes either side of the drag, and they were disappointedly quite skied out so early in the morning, as there was a 20 - 30 or so race skiers, maybe British Army. And around 100m (elevation) from the drag the snow suddenly changed to the sort of snow you get in March / April, not at all pleasant skiing back to the valley floor.
I then headed back up and back to Villeneuve as Cibouit and Yrette was closed and had some good lines of the Cretes drag which was closed.
It was risk 4 and I was Captain Sensible even though I had security gear (no avy bag), and I chose not to ski under the Gauthier chair, but I saw so many skiers & boarders doing lines where I've seen stuff go.
Last run down was in heavy dense cloud, so dense I could not see the Aravet even when I was down there trying to find the Marteau, and that all the way down was in very limited viz, and at least I knew where I was going, but if you didn't you would have had a bit of a mare.
Blue sky gradually appeared and temps rose even more, I'm not too sure how much moisture will be sucked out of the snow overnight though and what we'll be left with tomorrow?

In that case I may just go via Frejus unless we're on course to clear L2A very early. On parking we'll just have to chance our luck. Is it any easier in Villeneuve or Monetier?

Great powder this morning in the trees between the black run Pylones and the blue run Marteau and some fun again in the trees in the 'Melowzone'.
But by 11.00 the freezing level had shot up along with the humidity, super foggy midmountain, hard work skiing heavy snow and the surprise was skiing a deserted green run, Briance, which apart from being a bit sticky was not too hard work, and bailed to the last steep pitch of the Luc Alphand to finish.

@Snowtunes, parking in Chantemerle is fine, large free car park on the roundabout as you enter Chantemerle from Briancon, 5 min walk to the lifts, do it all the time!

@KenX, has gone up as this morning 's guinea pig
5mm on our terrace and just maybe 5cm up top as freezing levels dropped and rain turned to snow?
Lot of blasting going on and many lifts closed, but that's probably to blast the wet sodden snow to dislodge, plus evidently at altitude there were strong winds?

@Weathercam, snow surprising light and fluffy at top of Pontillas! Sadly building a spanky new lift and flooding people into old infrastructure has killed our skiing today. No Cretes, Mea drags very slow at opening and broke down and Barres broke down too. Couldn't get out of this sector as Cote Chevalier was closed at least till 12pm. Desperately need a chair in this Pontillas sector from Frejus cafe or below (Cote Chevalier area) to somewhere maybe top of shorter Mea drag? Can't get into Mea sector from Chantemerle when Clot is shut.

So, after being sent up as today's crash test dummy, the result was very similar to Sunday, ie 20cm of fresh powder and some excellent tree-skiing, the only downside was the massive queue at Chantemerle for the gondola (about 20-30 mins) coupled with the adjacent chairlift not in service due to ice on the cables......
Fortunately with the &Joy pass we could bypass all of that!

So there I was with a face like a slapped whatsit as we had to walk to Pontillas again as Mrs R is down on confidence and wanted to ski Mea. Sounds like frustration all round as I don't think Aravet would have been any better as Foret didn't open all day! Hoping for a cracker tomorrow. Skied a very lumpy, cloud bound cucumelle last thing. Did it twice just to be sure it was that bad! Pisteurs should sort that tonight! Snowing to village level when I came down but seems to have stopped now.

@Weathercam, yes was well aware of the history and the name, but hopefully this will be a stage to build a really exciting ski area! Is there anything in the plans? Feel very sorry for the Frejus cafe as they are kind of stranded. Not entirely sure why they took out the Frejus chair unless it was in the way of the Côte Chevalier? Bon ski everyone!
|
|
|
|

@RetroBod, we just don't go there any more. Get to Cote Chevalier, and off to the other side usually. I think Fréjus was in the way, and in need of replacing. There was talk of a chairlift to replace Mea drag, but that seems to have gone quiet. I think they even did some groundworks for it pre-Covid.
Have a good day on the slopes everyone, on or off the piste.
