 Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi all,
I'd like to learn how to jump off the kickers in the park. I've been skiing for many many years, am 39 years old, but have never really been comfortable with even the smallest jump in the park, you know them, the little rollers only a few cm high.
I would love to have a private lesson to learn how to have fun in the park, I'm not talking about any flips or spins, just literally getting some air for a couple of seconds in a straight line without exploding into a ball of broken snow bones.
Does anyone have any recommendations in any of the resorts in France for a teacher or school that specialises in beginner freestyle skiing?
Thanks!
Paul

Years ago, I went on the British Freeski summer camp, in Saas Fee, on the glacier. It was a week of kickers and half pipe training, including training for flips and spins on trampoline.
If the team still run these, go. It's a brilliant week.
For winter, go on a Stomp It freestyle camp. Haven't been myself, but they look brilliant. Plenty of their stuff in YouTube. They are also in Switzerland.
Haven't done anything in France. But I would recommend a full week of training, over a lesson. This can take a while.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

My eldest daughter had a couple of private freestyle lessons with Laurent at Avoriaz Alpine ski school a few years ago, which she really enjoyed. She's a very good skier, but hadn't done anything like that before.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Would also love to learn a few tricks
To get a few inches of air, go up them with knees bent, sharply straighten them (jump) just as you hit the top.
I think that’s right.

I saw some children learning on the small tremlin in Courcheval 1850 a few years ago and even that looked terrifying. Good luck

As a snowboarder, the idea of doing a straight air terrifies me. I imagine it's a bit easier on skis with everything pointing the way you're going.

Thanks for the answers here everyone. @fuzzydunlop that is actually where I'm going to be the most this season, I'm going to try find steven angus and get a few lessons from him.
I'd love to do one of the stomp it camps, but even the video they have of someone learning, he could already jump higher than I've ever dared to jump in my life!

@Salgar, you'll find Steve over on the Val d'Isere Snow Report thread or drop him a message.
He's not started posting daily updates yet but will do within the next couple of weeks.
