 Poster: A snowHead

I'm a self-employed (female), multilingual EU passport holder with a driving license and car. I have prior experience working two winter seasons in a ski resort in Lapland and I’ve also lived in Austria and France. I’m available from January and eager to swap the home office for mountain life for any duration.
My background includes:
• Previous hotel industry experience, now with a primary career in IT
• Strong work ethic, adaptable and dependable, ready to contribute wherever needed
• Experienced snowboarder and cross-country skier
I’d appreciate any advice or tips.
Thank you in advance!

@Finski, If you are happy working in a bar or hotel, I know that there are a good number of them looking for staff (ideally experienced) in Chamonix (Le Pub, Hotel Pointe Isabelle have both been or are interviewing) and I can only imagine elsewhere? Facebook groups or resorts that take your fancy?

Moved this to The Piste where it's more likely to get attention
Someone posted on a tread yesterday that many places in Andorra were lokoing for staff. Other than that I'd suggest deciding where you want to ski based on your own abilities / preferences / languages then finding the appropriate seasonnaires group on facebok to ask there

Thank you for your answers. I'm already in one FB group (from seasonbible.com) but have found there are many more, so it's just a matter of seeing what's out there. An ideal job would be one that would allow me to be on the slopes during the day. I would personally prefer Austria or France.

@Finski, i've seen jobs posted fairly recently on Jobs im Zillertal on facebook
https://www.facebook.com/groups/689015504928375/
What is likely to be tricky is finding accommodation, but perhaps you can find a hotel type job that comes with a bed.

@Finski, If you haven't already done it. Get yourself onto some of the resort seasonnaire Facebook pages. There have been some recent post on the Tignes page for eg. Tignes Seasonnaires 2025. VAL d'ISERE SEASONAIRES

@Finski, welcome to Snowheads do start checking the FB seasonnaire pages but also start approaching businesses now, in the resorts you're interested in. As you're available from January, that can often be a good time to take the place of people who have dropped out due to injury or being homesick, and if your details are already with the employers, that could work out well. Good luck

@Finski,
Approach all the UK tour operators. With your EU passport you'll be ideally placed to go out to the Alps as a staff replacement in January.
For reaching out to in resort businesses then the relevant seasonnaire Fbook pages are a good start.
You'll probably find the major problem is finding season accommodation if the employer doesn't provide it.

The public job service in Austria (ams.at) has literally thousands of jobs advertised. There is a severe shortage of hospitality staff in the ski resorts and suitable candidates are able to choose between several employers, so there is the scope for part-time working or just working 3-4 days a week in order to get some skiing time. Most jobs in the sector come with accommodation and food. https://jobs.ams.at/public/emps/

@Finski, Any experience with kids? Anna at Skiing4All in Zell Am See is looking for someone. Don't know what the terms and conditions are. Mrs R&W works with her Part-Time. I think it comes with accommodation too. Drop her a line if you're interested. https://www.skiing4all.com/

There's a couple of facebook groups for St Anton where a few jobs get posted, but many are also filled by being in resort, knocking on doors, getting a network of people helping and being in the right place at the right time.

Just as a quick barometer, my daughter is looking to work in Chamonix this summer so she went door to door over the Toussaint holiday to test the waters to see who would be hiring. Most shops and restaurants said they'd be looking for at least seasonal fill-in staff. English fluency is required so if you are French/English bilingual you already have the key skill...I honestly think if you went to Chamonix and brought a CV you could find at least shop assistant work.

@Finski, also, I suspect that working for a UK tour operator would give you less skiing time than in a bar that opens at 16h00 and closes at 01h00 ... back in my day (early 1990s so not really "recent") resort managers did more or less no skiing at all ... that may have been down to motivation of course!

Thanks for all your comments. Really appreciate it.
I've no particular place in mind yet. I lived in Tyrol, Austria for a couple of years, so I'm familiar with the culture, the resorts and the local lingo (Tirolerisch), although I have to say that my German is more like Hochdeutsch these days. It's good to see that the Austrian authorities have embraced the digital age by having a proper jobs website. Back in the day, the local newspaper Tiroler Tageszeitung and personal contacts were the way to find work there. I prefer ski resorts in Tyrol to other Austrian provinces. I also worked in Geneva for a year and have been to most of the ski resorts within driving distance in both France and Switzerland. My French needs more brushing up than my German at the moment, so working in France would be good from that point of view.
When I worked in a ski resort in Lapland a couple of decades ago, I was in charge of the hotel's gym and spa area, which allowed me to hit the slopes every morning before the spa opened in the afternoon and closed at 9pm. The article about different types of jobs in ski resorts was very useful. I'm not interested in bar work at all. It would be nice to be on the slopes 2-3 days a week, so a part-time job would potentially work for me as well.
As I have to wait until mid-January before I can commit 100% to anything, it's good to know that there will be jobs available after the injured and homesick have packed their bags and gone home.
I've been wanting to swap the wet and stormy British winter for some fresh Alpine air and beautiful scenery for a couple of years now. Get away from the computer screen and do something different for a few months and now it looks like I finally can. I'll keep checking the FB groups and contacting the UK tour operators to see what's out there.
