Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@Doccam,
Where is she going? What activities will she be doing? Off-piste included? If she's working, can't her employer recommend anyone?

Ooops, sorry @Doccam, but I suspected as much, and as the father of 13yr old mini-Shepess (and an ex-seasonniaire Confused ) it was only partly tongue in cheek. Accident insurance doesn't cover all risks. Hope she has a fab time! And chapeau for having her back Blush .

I've always been happy with Carré Neige (or Vieux Campeur, etc.) and EHIC (or GHIC, CEAM etc.), but others may be more risk-averse.

If in the Savoie then Carré Neige 4 Saison would cover rescue and medical cover for skiing and other alpine activities. In theory it would cover repatriation but the wording isn’t super clear in this situation. It doesn’t cover liability.

AAC membership would give rescue and liability cover but not medical or repatriation.

There are seasonaire insurance such as MPI

AAC membership (UK branch) doesn’t provide cover for the whole season. I think that it’s only up to 8 weeks.

Medical and repatriation is limited to 8 weeks. Liability and rescue is year round.

 And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

This subject has been covered so often! It is possible to extend the AAC insurance for higher medical cover and longer period see https://www.europaeische.at/pip/en/oeavrs though the maximum length is 4 months so probably not useful on this occasion

@munich_irish, the offerings are always changing though, so advice is often out of date.

@Doccam, I used this company for my son’s season in Japan https://www.thetravellistco.com/buy-travel-insurance I didn’t think much of the level of valuables cover but this was one of the few that would cover him for skiing all season. Depending on your daughter’s destination, you may find more choice than me

Thanks all. Went with carre neige (or will do with season pass purchase), GHIC (ordered them for the whole family last week and arrived within 2 days- didn’t realise how extensive that cover is), all topped up with the lowest tier of BigCat seasonaire cover at £164 (probably not needed but piece of mind).

@Doccam, we've not really thought about seasonnaire insurance for Jnr. He's spent the summer skiing in Argentina and was fully insured for that but he wasn't working. He does get some cover through work though and Andorra social security covers 75% of any medical bills. I guess he could need cover for possessions. I'm not sure what's covered in the apartment he gets through the ski school.

Do the employer not provide insurance? I did a couple of seasons back in 2010 (in France) and was covered by the company policy, from memory I want to say it was with Fogg, whoever it was they seemed to be quite highly regarded back then. We were advised to get individual carte neige on top.
