Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

OSLO ski options for early Dec

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I will be in Oslo next week. Does anyone know of any decent ski option that might be open, within a reasonable, say 2 hours travel, distance of the city. I am aware of Vinterpark (only open evenings/weekends and not much snow yet) and SNØ which looks fantastic, but I really want to ski outside. Any thoughts / ideas appreciated!

@Daffy Butter, what transport option(s) do you have? Trysil and Lillehammer are both a bit over 2 hours' drive from Oslo. Trysil's opening should be this weekend; the Lillehammer ski areas may be a bit later (possibly after your visit). If you're limited to public transport then it's a bit harder, Trysil is OK from the airport (2.5 hours by bus) but a bit more of a trek from the city centre.

@mgrolf, Just the public kind of transport, unfortunately.

@Daffy Butter, looks like you are a bit early - most of the local ski areas are only open weekends until mid December. Anywhere close to Oslo probably has the same problems as Tryvann/Winter Park, i.e. not enough snow.

Lillehammer has 4 or 5 different ski areas - Hafjell is one of them. It looks as though Hafjell will be open daily from this weekend so it might be a decent option for you. Train from Oslo to Lillehammer is 2 hours 10 minutes, plus another 15 on the bus to Hafjell. So probably a bit more than 2.5 hours including waiting for a bus. Kvitfjell, another of the Lillehammer areas, is 2.5 hours direct on the train, and should be open every day.

Hafjell didn't open at the weekend, too windy I think (and not too much snow). Snow is forecast in the next few days and it does /look/ closer to opening than it did a even just a week ago. Check out
