 Poster: A snowHead

I will be at Rusutsu in February. Is 5 days of skiing there too much? Will I get bored? I will have already spent 3 days at Niseko and 3 days in Otaru all for skiing.

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Depends if it’s raining or blower pow! You could try Furano (and/or Asahidake) for a central Hokkaido option. Snow can be even lighter up there

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I've skied it for 16 winters and I'm not bored with it
Not much to do post skiing

If youve got transport I'd suggest 2 or three days in Rusutsu, and the the other days at Kiroro.
I love them both, and they are quite different in so many ways.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@skimachine, I've dropped off the back and have done some excellent slack country in quite mellow terrain, though the skinning back up was a tad challenging due to the pure depth and lightness of the snow.
Ironically the following year we had a guide, and he more or less took us down the same line I'd already sussed the previous year.
If you want I could post Strava track which I'm 90% sure I have, though obviously depends if you have touring gear.

Raining? In February?

Yes - you can get tropical air that rolls up from the south: we had 2 days of torrential rain in February and temps hit 12 deg.C. After 48 hours it turned to torrential snow as the Siberian air mass won over.
Furano is miles away and a very long drive from Rusutsu! Japanese speed limit is 55mph pretty much everywhere and they're savages at rules so it can take a while.

@rungsp, Weather dependent, but planning to visit Kiroro for a day or two. My friend will be with me until we are done with Niseko. Then she will dump me at Rusutsu and take the car back to and return it to Sapporo before leaving the country.

@Sharkymark, I would love to do Furano, but like you said it is a long drive in the wrong direct even if I had a car.

I wouldn't mind going back to Niseko for a day or two on day trips, but no car and the price of buses seems crazy high. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced bus? I have the ikon pass and will have day left at Niseko should I want to do that.

I drove from Furano to Kiroro and back in a day chasing pow. You aren’t committed enough

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I guess a day has 24 whole hours in it so yes, it is doable
