 Poster: A snowHead
|
We have a world and Olympic record here. For the first time in my life I pack the least rather than the most. I have only ever owned one set or thermals and they only get washed twice a year, once mid-season and once at the end of the season. I wear regular underwear under my thermal bottoms which I change daily.
This coming year I will have to break that twice a year wash schedule since I will be skiing almost a month straight with a few recovery days scattered over that period. Before anyone asks, I ski bell to bell, top to bottom and usually no lunch stop.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

3 tops. 3 bottoms. 3 socks |
I usually find that taking an even number of socks works better

For a typical week based on 6x skiing days -
14x New grundies (1x for every day /1x fresh pair worn in the evening just incase I might get lucky)
3x Heavy Merino 3/4 leggings (worn in conjunction with grundies and changed every other day conditions dependent / and or replaced with light)
3x Light Merino 3/4 leggings (worn in conjunction with grundies and changed every other day conditions dependent / and or replaced with heavy)
8x Socks (1x for every day skiing plus 2x spare, usually thicker variants)
6x Base layer Ts (1x for every day skiing) + 7x Ts for travel/apres
4x Light Midlayer Hoodies (3x changed every other day plus 1x spare / used for apres)
1x Super Light Midlayer Vest (1x in pack but usually worn in conjunction with Light hoodies / as required)
2x Midlayer Synthetic Hoodies (1x always in pack for emergency cold / 1x for travel/apres)
2x Midlayer Fleece (if the mood/weather dictates but generally worn for apres)
1x Shell Jacket
1x Shell Pants

Who sees that “crisply pressed” whatever under the jacket?

Well I rarely wear a mid-layer, and like to remove my jacket at lunch. I prefer not to wear a top that smells like a sumo's jock-strap, so it's a fresh top every day.

The milk is more interesting. Mine lasts up to a month beyond the sell-by date.
The key to keeping milk is to make sure it never warms up. My Tesco Extra is a minute's walk from my front door, and I never leave the milk out. So it lasts well.
If bought from the local corner shop it never reaches the sell-by date. They doubtless leave it sitting out when they come back from the cash and carry.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Wondering if the "I don't wear thermals" maps to those skiing with outer layers that include insulation? I'm assuming it would be a positive correlation. I'm also assuming that those people are also wearing some sort of fleece or other "mid layer".

I fit that description.
I have a couple of nice warm insulated jackets (necessary for living in the cold climate). So I just pick one that suits the weather of the day. No need to bother with mid-layers or ‘thermal’ . Just a breathable base layer (long sleeve cycling jersey)
