Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Sella Ronda and the Olympics

I’ll second what Harrow Lady has said about the dolomites and Carnevale. That’s the only time at half term I’ve found the area to be so busy that I’d rather not be there. Just think of Sella Ronda like queues on all the lifts, even the ones away from the Sella Ronda. And now I’m no longer tied to half term I still avoid it at Carnevale time.

@Snow&skifan, there's 4 of us, with 2 teenage children so it doesn't have to be self catering but need a two bedroom place which seems to fit apartments more.

Maybe I'll take a look on trip advisor - very little on booking.com but I suspect many places haven't released next year yet.

That was the same as us for many seasons. Use TA just as a guide on reviews, I'd suggest then contacting hotels directly (probably through their websites). They prefer that, no middlemen taking a cut and I find you often save significantly too.

Thanks, it's a great tip - the frustrating thing is that most of the hotels/apartments (with the two bedrooms we need) seem to have this request form, which they then take 24 hours to respond to. I sent a load off last night and they've slowly come back in all declined. Usually a hour or so on airbnb and the like, and I can get a good gauge of what's available and what's not, and where they are located.

The sunweb option has given me a back-up, but it's out of town and reliant on shuttle buses - not necessarily a bad thing, but the family is used to ski in, ski out, close to town etc. I know those are available less than other resorts but seeing how I can narrow the gap.

I’m similarly impatient, 24 hours or more seems an age when you want to make decisions. I think it’s a cultural or contract law process there … you request a price, they formerly make you an offer by email. Non refundable deposits are reasonable imho eg 30%.

May I ask what your max accommodation budget is, if you don’t mind of course?

I've never been to the Sella Rhonda - how does it compare to French half term?

Ah I see! That would make sense - I did wonder why it was like that.

have you tried the local tourist board in Alta Badia? we've found it useful. I'm sure Val Gardena must have one.

Cheers, really appreciated. This has uncovered the best options. Once we put in all the filters, it brings it down to handful of suggestions but it feels like at least those suggestions are still available. Waiting for confirmation on one of them.

Managed to book at two bedroom apartment in Colfosco - just off the slopes so should be ski in/ski out but only 50 yard walk if not, and just a few mins walk ingto town. Very happy! So thanks to everyone for their help!

Glad it's sorted as it's all a bit of back-and-forth faff!

- Send form to check availability
- Email back to confirm availability
- Send form to confirm I want it
- Email back to confirm offer (booking not confirmed at this point)
- Email back 24 hours later with details on deposit
- Deposit paid, booking confirmed

…….once you’ve booked your accommodation in val Gardena then nearer the time get them to send the free travel pass for the local buses and trains. With this you free travel from innsbruck airport to innsbruck train station on transfer bus . The train journey has one change and you also get free travel on one of these legs. The bus up the hill is also free. My son joined us this year for 3 days and his transfer cost about 20 euro for the whole journey. Remarkable.
