Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

ABS Trigger replacement / refill UK or Tignes

 Poster: A snowHead

Tried to get my ABS trigger "refilled" (ie exchanged) but snowsafe no longer do them, customers all have electric bags it seems.
Does anyone know where I can get this done in UK or even better by exchange in Tignes?

Definitely in Vieux Campeur in Albertville on the way to Tignes. In resort, not sure, not a lot of straight answers! The shop in Val d'Isere where the Bureau des Guides is based (Mountain Spirit?) used to be the recommendation.

@pisteoff, if you want this done in Tignes head for Mountain Attitude in Rue de la Poste, Le Lac (as it happens, the shop's right opposite La Poste...). They are a very friendly and super knowledgeable bunch and it's the go-to place in Tignes for all things touring, off piste and climbing.

Currently closed but they open Monday if you want to give them a ring to check they can do your specific gear. For contact numbers and website, Google is your friend. Both the lads speak English.

I've also used Intersport in Bourg St Maurice, next to the big Super U to get ABS gear checked over. They kept it a day to check it but rather than swapping canisters simply weighed it to check it was still full.

Whilst on the subject, a mate last year bought a second-hand bag and I compared the weight of his cylinders (his came with two) and one of them was significantly light compared to mine despite not having been deployed. Sent him off to Mountain Attitude who sorted it out with a swap.

@stevomcd, @bobski62, Thanks both. I will call Mountain Attitude.
I have been told (and am persuaded) that weighing the cylinders is enough. If they are still same weight then OK. However the triggers need to be changed every few years. (which is cheaper than whole change)
Think I too may go to an electric backpack, like the litric but concerned about non-removable battery and flights.

Out of curiosity does anyone know what the full weight of a carbon ABS cylinder is?

@pisteoff, is it a battery? I thought the newer ones were a capacitor charged from small removable batteries (AA ones in the scott bags I think).

Edit... I see its a lithium battery in that one. At 2000mAh it's well under the max airlines allow for things like powerbanks.

The litric has a battery - and no doubt a capacitor too, though I've not looked in detail.
The carbon ABS cylinders I have weigh about 285g when full. - not that heavy, but there is weight in bag to hold the cylinder etc

re litric, although they say it should be no problem since it is PPE - this page worries me a little, I just don't want hassle at an airport than thinks differently. I have had problems myself with different interpretations from the airline and the airport security.
Also a removable battery just seems to make sense to me for replacement etc.
Perhaps an argument for going for something else, but I liked the look and weight etc of the litric
