At least 10cm solid snowfall over the last 24h here in La Tzoumaz (1500m). View from the balcony this morning (28.1.25) with temp +3.1°C although oddly, it feels somewhat colder. The snow line must be around 800m at the moment. Must have been a fair old dump higher up on the slopes.
The forecast is perhaps for a little more tonight, then brightening up over the next two days and clear sunny skies from Saturday onwards.

Hi all - does anyone have a recommended ski guide or guiding company for Verbier / 4V? Off-piste and touring. Thank you!

How is off piste looking for the next week?
Snow depth is rather low, even with the recent snow.

It will be great next couple of days but sunny all weekend and nothing in forecast will mean you’ll need to work for fresh tracks next week. Snow depths are fine

I've been charged with booking a multi family trip mid December. Likely catered so Austria is out. Personally I'm trying to avoid France but obviously there is not too much choice otherwise. I've seen an accommodation option in Verbier that has been given a tick by key decision makers.
A key consideration has been nice town (there is a baby and a 3 year old coming) so I've shilled Verbier a bit. So has my wife after staying at Bob's place last summer which we loved (thanks Bob).
There is come concern over the "cruise blue" status though from my wife and SIL. Myself and my brother in law will be keen to get into the thick of it. My wife is a nervous red skier but will be fine on anything that has been bashed. The older kids (12, 11, 10 and will be fine on reds. My sister in law however has only skied once. I've obviously read all the research here too and armed myself with knowledge about where to ski.
Anyone want to give me a soundbite to sell the cruisy blue status? Also, is Chez Dany accessible by car in the winter? To get the SIL up there when she has the small ones.

@afterski, the slopes on Savoleyres are really nice, likewise over at La Chaux as well.
Lac des Vaux also nice. Take the Chassoure lift down to Tortin and there's a real gentle run there too.

Verbier is a good choice early season as everything opens from 1st weekend in December. The best area for a 1wk skier is La Chaux. Take the chaux Express bubble up and over from Ruinettes and ski the easy blues off Chaux 2 with the Dahu restaurant at the bottom for hot chocolate stops. You can also take the chaux express up and there is a new blue run back to La chaux by following the Fontanet red and breaking off to the left before it drops down towards Verbier. This is where I take beginners. Lac des Vaux typically holds the best quality snow and is also suitable for beginners, accessible from the top of Funispace or James Blunt. If they aren’t ready for the Attelas red down just download in the Funispace. Another good option which adds a bit of travel is to take the Chassoure bubble down from Lac des Vaux and ski the lovely blue Tortin run to Siviez. In the morning before it gets cut up you could also take them on the wonderful plan de fou red run, one of the best long pistes in the 4 valleys. Just remember to take the right hand path towards the Teepee to avoid the steeper section at the bottom. Beyond that, the Jumbo red is also possible if you take them on the zig zag path towards avoid the steeper section section. Best to check this out before you take them. Once it opens out it’s a lovely cruiser run with great views and passes the Cabane Mont Fort which is a cracking coffee / lunch spot if the suns shining and it’s not too cold. The other good area fir blues is over on the La Tzoumaz side if you can bare the old gondola and faff to get back. Chez Dany is accessible by snow taxi in the evening (highly recommend) but it’s not allowed to run during the day so it’s a 20 minute sporting walk up/down from Medran. Carrefour restaurant is a better option for pedestrians and has great food. Dahu is also accessible for pedestrians by lifts but book early for the nice tables on the terrace! Hope that helps

James Blunt aka in official terms, Les Attelas chair. Not everyone will get the James Blunt reference/name Bob!

Here’s the view from the Savoleyres restaurant one early December lunchtime (Verbier bottom right window corner):
Not fine dining, obviously, but not a bad meeting-up venue for non-skiers, debutantes and intermediates trying out the La Tzoumaz Sector blues and reds. By next season, there should also be a new lift up from Planards to Savoleyres, but the old gondola will still be in place.
Also note that travelling from inside GVA to Verbier is entirely viable by train and télépherique, and in some ways preferable. Albeit you’d have to book from 60 days in advance to get the adult, anytime, Saver Day Pass for CHF 52. With a larger group, vehicle rental becomes more cost-effective but parking in Verbier is limited, so accommodation with it is a bonus. If your group is arriving from different locations on different flights, then badly delayed members of the party have a viable fall-back if the rest need to get going in a rental vehicle, as the link up from the valley railway station at Le Chable runs till 11pm.
For a rental minivan, I’d suggest going to the .ch pages of the rental companies (link below) rather than the .com or intermediaries. These sometimes have 8-seaters at competitive prices that you won’t necessarily see on the .com pages and which can be driven on a standard drivers’ license. I checked for someone recently and the Hertz Gold Club rate for a week’s 8-seater hire ranged from £680 to £850 depending on the type of vehicle (obviously, this will vary a lot depending on date and demand). I’ve also done a hybrid where one rental estate car with the back seats down took all the luggage and equipment + two people, while the rest travelled by train/gondola.

On the SBB Journey Planner set ‘from’ as Genève-Aéroport and ‘to’ as Verbier, Médran and your travel times.
Hertz Gold Club is free to sign up to, but to get a discount, you need to store a credit card. You also get a 2nd driver for free.
The new TeleMix lift from Verbier-Planards up to LaTzoumaz-Savoleyres.

And he has aged very well for a 50 year old!
Also bumped into Rory Stewart and his wife in the Gentianes lift queue. Good skiers! He proudly showed off his fresh tracks down the Mouche itinerary and his wife’s new Black Crow skis. Rents an apartment in town so perhaps we’ll see him again in a late season touring trip…

And the Lac de Cleuson in the summer. It's quite a nice walk up from Siviez, and the chapel on the left is charming. But the bath seemed incongruous and a good candidate for my calendar:

Zero snow in Verbier or Nendaz town.
Slopes above 2000m are fair.
Offpiste sucks.
Whole area needs a 50-100cm topup.
