More on the replacement for the ageing Verbier-Savoleyres lift, planned for 2026/27
https://tmx-savoleyres.ch/en
A new short ski run down from Carrefour to Esserts, 10-person gondola from there to Planards, then combimix with chairs to Savoleyres. In two phases, Planards-Savoleyres ready for winter 2025/26 and Esserts ready the next season.
See the video at the bottom of the webpage for a visualisation.
The runs down from Savoleyres to Planards are lovely intermediates, but somewhat under-utilised at the moment, because you either have to get an old slow drag back up or carry on down into Verbier. They'll be a more practical addition to the portfolio of runs in the Savoleyres Sector once the new lift is in place.

When I was there, that lower track to Verbier was often closed due to avalanche risk.

Looking great. Just under two weeks until I will be there touring. Always a risk hiring a guide for a couple of days in January. But it looks like this year we have been lucky.

@lessafan, suspect snow today and tomorrow, and it’s a bit higher than Chatel where I’m based. We are thinking of a trip over on Monday when the sun is out and the weekend skiers have gone home.
And welcome to the madhouse.

Just coming back from a quick 2 day trip to Verbier. We skied yesterday and today. (Wed and Thurs)
Yesterday was pretty windy and varying amounts of viz but nice snow and some powder to be had. Today was really nice snow but bad viz all day so a lot of skiing by feel. Jumbo and Mont Fort were shut yesterday but open today. I took a ride up to the top and lots of powder but the visibility was horrendous. It'll be great up there when the sun comes out!
At some point the freezing level crept up to around Les Ruinettes so a little crusty below there but from Les Ruinettes up the snow is nice. And was snowing steadily this afternoon down to Le Chable as we left.

Today was my first day skiing in Verbier, and .... wow, what a place. What a day. Looking at the sunny forecast I think I have a great week coming up.
Today I did the Mont Fort piste and managed to scare myself adequately for this trip, so not sure if I'll do it again.

Haha, yes, MF can be a bit wild. How was it? Crusty or any cover on it?

First day today (Monday 13 Jan) and took it easy doing Savoleyres Sector. Pistes were packed and solid, with a decent surface. Balcony temp at 1500m was low -7.6°C, high -1.6°C Enjoyed my first vin chaud at Chez Simon on the run home back to La Tzoumaz.
Verbier from Croix de Coeur. Clear blue skies all day.

I didn't find it crusty at all. Snow was pretty soft and the moguls not as gigantic as I expected. The hardest for me was just the steepness. Today I did the Chaussoure to Tortin itinerary and again the hardest thing was the steepness of the first 100m or so - much steeper than the couple of itineraries I did yesterday.
My impressions of Verbier - I have never been to a resort with so many wide, steep and groomed black slopes and steep red slopes. Just impeccable grooming. Same impressions when skiing over past Tortin/Siviez and down to Nendaz.
Also Verbier is full of really excellent skiers.

Another sunny day in the 4 Vallées: at 1500m on the balcony temps have been a low of -2.9°C last night and +4.3°C today, so getting warmer, but forecast to keep well below zero at night and drop back to 1°-2°C daytime next week. Piste conditions remain solid, with relatively little churn even late in the day. Some streadfastly north-facing slopes are a tad icy but with a good layer of powder on top. Today’s photo is Verbier from Tournelle, with Ruinettes in the middle right.

Word of warning @orange, the weather is volatile. I am over in the Jungfrau region generally far lower than Verbier. We have just experienced some painfully cold temperatures, last Sunday preparing skis/skins imperative to keep gloves on at all times.
This is January bring both jackets!

Ok @orange, your Scotland -18 trumps our -13 -15 in Grindelwald, we had a dry breeze as well.

Wondering about a long weekend into Verbier with Mrs K before Easter. Can't seem to find any hotels that do half board & have availability? I've checked booking.com & hotels.com for both Verbier and Nendaz. We've done the s/c apartment eating out at night thing to death over previous years so trying to find a HB hotel, even better if it has pool/hot tub etc.
Any recommendations to try? Happy in the satellite villages for a recommended place.
I've tried these direct + the 2 sites mentioned above.
Hotel Vanessa - full
Hotel Bristol - B&B
Hotel Ermitage - B&B

Have you considered La Tzoumaz? Somewhere like the Auberge La Tzoumaz? It’s only a short walk to the télécabine up to Savoleyres and you can hire a locker by the station for CHF 12 a day if you don’t want to carry your kit uphill in the morning. Food at the auberge is excellent and there’s also a pizza type restaurant right opposite the lift in Le Central. The swimming pool in the main lift complex is open 13:30-19:30.
We’ve stayed at the Auberge and the rooms are fine but you’d probably want to sit in the bar or go up to the pleasant lounge in Le Central to relax, with the views from which are of the Rhône Valley 1,000 metres below and the mountains of the Bernese Oberland in the distance:

@kitenski, just do Bristol or similar and eat dinner at Shed / Aiseki / Borsalino

@LaForet, thanks, that looks a decent option, so Gondola up in the morning, and then along the link run to Carrefour and up the 6 man chair? Does that link run stay open thru April?
@BobinCH, we've done the eating out in dfferent places at night to death over the past few years!!
How busy would it be if we came Easter weekend?

I guess I don’t understand what’s different between eating dinner in your hotel vs walking across the road? More hotel choice and better food options! Certainly won’t be busy in town or on the slopes.
If you really want to eat in your hotel you could try Cordee des Alpes, which also has a spa, but it will be pricey.

When I was there a couple of weeks ago the link run from Savoleyres to Carrefour was closed due to building the new lift. It was either ski down to the road at Les Esserts and catch the bus, or take off skis and cross the road and ski the back path through the village to Le Rouge T-bar and up to Mayentzet.
I had the impression the link would be closed all year.

kitenski wrote: |

No. The slopes above it face south so it closes due to the big Spring slides that come across the path. And if you ignore the barriers and take the risk there will be several bare patches requiring skis off.
