Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

After just spending the last week In Samoens we had two days of not being able to get up the mountain with all the lifts to the top closed due to wind . This shouldn't be a problem but the buses back and forth are very hit and miss and getting to Morrilon and back takes a good few hours . Also the bubbles close very early compared to other areas and with the lack of snow down low you have to start thinking of getting back quite early.

Bad luck, sorry to hear that. We had the same issues a couple of years ago and it was a rough couple of days skiing.

@jimdonut, you win some, you lose some. I had just two days in Samoens in March '23. One day the lifts were closed due to wind. The other was a complete whiteout. I went up and got to Flaine but the return was quite scary as I was losing orientation (I know the area). Fortunately a group of French skiers came along who really knew the pistes and helped me out. Be better next time!

i make a mistake when buying the ski cards... We will stay in Flaine. And i bought the cards from https://lescarroz.skipass-grand-massif.com/
That means that we can not use the cards in Flaine? we have to start from Les Carroz?
Except that, in the order is mentioned For: Participant Anonymous, NAME of my Daughter , Participant Anonymous, Participant Anonymous

There is not even my name (accound owner). And i cannot change something.
I suppose that with the names is not a problem at all. But is there a problem from where to buy the cards and where to use them?

I have literally done the same thing. Bought from Les Carroz but staying in Flaine and am currently trying to figure out if it is a problem. Mine are Grand Massif passes so I presumed it doesnt matter?
I don't know how I bought from Les Carroz as I bought through the GM website and am sure i selected Flaine as my resort......but evidently not.

If you purchase a GM pass (rather than 4 Villages) then it is valid in Flaine and as far as I am aware and have experienced myself it makes no difference where you start from or where you pick up the pass to start.
GM website is a disaster zone so don’t be harsh on yourself it almost certain you chose Flaine and the website just did it’s thing and changed to LC.

I bought GM passes for reference resort Samoens, the email confirmation said the reference resort was Les Carroz...I emailed them to check and I'm pretty sure it's all ok - the passes received in the post are GM passes. I think maybe the admin is done from Les Carroz lift operating company?

Got a reply to say that I can pick up my passes in any village. Wasn't the question I asked but I took it to mean you can start anywhere. I would be shocked if it was any different once it is a GM pass!

Only 8 weeks left to wait Crying or Very sad

Just FYI all, my pass also had the same issue - I selected Samoens but it was booked for Les Carroz.

Wasn't a problem to pick up or start using in Samoens, but I couldn't scan my QR code at the self-service machine so had to pick my pass up from one of the manned desks.

Just 3 laps of Marvel , sunshine , not icy and quiet. Looks like lots of snowmaking on Doina so hopefully they are looking to open this run back to Morillon base

@susieski, thank you for the update! Heading to morillon with my son for his first trip and of the month so this sounds encouraging!

The GM website seems to say the drag lift in the beginner area was shut. Don’t know if you saw if that area was in action or not? Anyway looking forward to our trip.

Another beautiful day here. Snow cannons firing on all the slopes lower down so they're clearly trying to get the runs into Morillon and Vercland open.

Yesterday was busy, but today the slopes are completely empty also. Blissful

Glorious day up on the hill today.
Set out from Morillon. No new snow but pistes not particularly icy and almost deserted . They’ve been busy snowmaking. Off piste obviously cruddy. Sunshine and overheating with minimal layers. Not at all bad though with good snow depth

How are things at the moment on the slopes around Les Carroz. Worth coming for this weekend from London or too warm / are pistes already icy or too scraped to be fun! Would be for piste skiing only.

@samendacott, you definitely shouldn't come. wink

Pistes in great condition in Flaine, Carroz and Samoens. Slightly less so at the bottom of Morillon, but still very skiable.

Temperatures have stayed low the last few days with brilliant sunshine. The forecast is for more of the same for the weekend..... Very Happy

Any idea on the reliability of forecast for the final week of Jan? We have a trip planned to Samoens/GM but I'm getting nervous as preliminary forecasts are showing lows above freezing and highs in the 40s with no significant snowfall between now and then. Any idea how concerned I should be or if I'm misreading something? I thought the final week of January was generally supposed to be the coldest week of the year in Haut Savoie.

@sabski, We're out here now, temps are well below freezing overnight but the lower reaches if the area are getting into single digit temps during the day. The upper reaches though stay very cold. Could really do with more snow, the pistes are getting quite polished, but the forecast is showing blue skies for the next week...

Dang, was hoping to avoid the crowds by coming in the last week of January (not over the French school holidays), but maybe it's a lost cause

The hordes all ski straight to Flaine at weekends. Leaves the rest of the area relatively quiet. No idea about GME but at weekends Chariande Express is usually quiet until about 10, then quietish again from 11.30 once everyone has rushed off to Flaine.

So if we book it to the Chariande Express right at open we should be able to make it to Flaine before the rush?

Yes, we generally arrive from the Tete de Saix and ready to go up again at around 9.20 for the first time round, and there's not a queue then even at weekends. Probably a different story in school holidays.....
