Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

"Val Thorens" -> "3 Valley" 6 day upgrade

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi everyone, I could use some advice!

My friend booked a Val Thorens hotel + 6-day ski pass package through a travel agency for March 2025 for our group. We were hoping to ski across all of the 3 Valleys, but it turns out the package only includes a more limited Val Thorens pass. We'd love to experience the full resort, but we noticed that the daily upgrade to access the 3 Valleys is EUR 48 per day—almost the cost of a brand new 6-day 3V pass if you do it for the whole week.

Has anyone had experience with upgrading a 6-day Val Thorens pass to cover the full 3 Valleys for a lower price? Is there an option to upgrade the entire pass instead of paying for individual days? I can't find anything about that on 3V website. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

If the package is with a tour op', then thier rep might be able to dort it for you. They come around the bus during the trsnsfer with info and trying to selI stuff including lift passes to those who havent booked them.

Failing that, I think if you go into the lift pass office with it then they'll do it for you. Think I've done that one year on the EoSB.

@leifur26, this may be a stupid question, but have you looked into your holiday provider?

they may be able to offer this, i know companies like sunweb and others like them offer local valley pass as standard, then you can upgrade to 3v's for a nominal fee, certainly not 48 euros a day

Thank you! I've reached out to the holiday provider but haven't received a response yet. I just wanted to check here first as I was a bit concerned this might become an issue. Thankfully, it sounds like I don't need to worry too much.

@leifur26, are you sure that’s the per day price? If I recall from a couple of years back the per week upgrade was about that price.

Checking here, VT is €340 vs 3V at €395.

@Boofont, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s correct. I remember a similar thread last year and after checking online I noticed that VT daily upgrades were ever so expensive to the point that you’d just as well do the weekly upgrade, whereas the likes of Paradiski and Tignes/VDI were only about 20 euros for a daily.

Depending on what you're looking for and how much/well you ski, if you've not been before then the VT/Orelle valleys do have quite a bit to do.

@leifur26, this subject's come up before. You need the TO to do it for you but they will probably charge you more than the advertised difference in price for 6 day passes because they will have bought the VT only passes in bulk with a substantial discount. Think the last poster said they wanted the 6 day difference plus 15% of the 6 day VT pass (their discount) for the upgrade.

@Je suis un Skieur, surprisingly, Sunweb charge considerably less that the difference between the VT and 3V pass - it's so little difference it's a no brainer.

The upgrades from a valley pass to a full valley pass in the 3Vs always makes sense if you are going to leave your valley on more than one day. It has always been that way, going back to the 90s. Working in Meribel for 5 seasons, we never sold a valley pass, always a 3 valley one, unless a complete beginner.

We've been regular attendees at the EoSB, and have upgraded in good snow conditions, and kept to the VT pass on others. I can't ever remember it costing us a fortune.

True, but Val Tho is different. It's imho the only smaller pass a competent skier might consider. At least late or very early in the season.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

That will most likely be because they bought the 3V passes in bulk upfront at a discount so they don't want anyone to take the VT only pass. The TO I used to work for did the same thing.

It doesn't cost much to upgrade the 6 days VT pass to a 6 days 3V one. It does, however, cost a fortune to upgrade on a daily basis.

@leifur26, when in March? In some years even mid-March can see Meribel centre so slushy by mid-afternoon that skiing through there is hard work. If the second half of March you might want to wait until you know what conditions are like.

I've skied through Meribel at the EoSB in April the last 3 years Cool Admittedly, that's been with the sole purpose of passing through and getting to the lovely skiing in Courchevel, which by then is pretty deserted. There are some good runs above Meribel that make the 3V extension worthwhile e.g. Inversens and you also need it for the glorious skiing above Les Menuires.

Fair play if you got to Inversens on a 3V upgrade. Last time I skied it, it was in La Plagne. snowHead
