Ha! I suspect it will be a while before the punters stop calling it the DMC though! (A bit like Twickenham, sorry "The Allianz Stadium".)

Do you mean to the bottom of the Pic Blanc lift, or to the top of Pic Blanc itself?
Either way, it will depend on lift queues, which in turn depends on when you're going (time of day, school holidays and so on).
Best case you're looking at something like 10 minutes for the Clos Giraud chair/bubble, then 5 minutes to get on to the TPH2 and 10 minutes to travel up to Dome des Rousses, 5 minutes to kit up and push across the flat bit before a quick ski down to the Pic Blanc cable car, then 10 minutes to get on to that and up to the top of Pic Blanc itself. So maybe 40 minutes total?
However, there may be queues for any of those lifts. Probably not much for the first one (5 mins typical), could be more for the TPH if you time it wrong (10 mins maybe), but could easily be 30 to 45 minute queues (or worse) for Pic Blanc at the wrong time of day/year. So perhaps add an hour to the previous estimate if you're unlucky.
Of course, the new booking system for the Pic Blanc lift should hopefully take away the worst of the uncertainty if you've booked a slot and can time it to get there at the right moment. Or was that why you're asking? |
yeap..thanks that was was i was asking. I want to go with my son after the ski school (at 11.30 am) so i suppose it is not the best option...i dont know if its better to go from Dome des Rousses to take the Marmottes II and III, or maybe from Dome des Rousses checking out the queus and planning accordingly

That's what we usually end up doing, checking out the queue at Pic Blanc (now 3), deciding it's too long so skiing over to Marmottes 2 and 3 instead. You don't get quite the same experience of the Sarenne because you miss the top bit, but it's still worthwhile and generally feels like it's quicker even if it isn't!
However, if you're leaving Montfrais at 11.30am, you might find you're arriving at the Pic Blanc lift at a good time as we've often noticed the queues are shorter at lunchtime.

@shrew, The main goal isn't so much skiing the Sarenne, but rather eating at the bottom of the slope (don't ask why).
However, I have to keep in mind that we’ll need to make our way back to Vaujany, so I’m thinking of leaving it for another time. Additionally, since we'll be there on December 21st, it might be too early for the Sarenne due to snow conditions.

Hi everyone. We’re heading out to Alpe d’Huez on the 11th of Jan - hoping for good conditions! Are there any particular websites/apps that people use for weather forecasts?
Cheers.

Very difficult conditions today with the storm. All links to the sectors are closed.
There was a bad accident on the road to Venosc a couple of days ago. A rock slide caused a car carrying three ESF instructors off the road. One died and two injured.
Please tell kids to be careful on the lifts as we had an accident a few days ago when two fell off taking a selfie.
Today is a day for hot chocolate and a Xmas movie!

It will be biblical tonight surely? 80cm over today and tomorrow? Looks about right. Just managed to get back over to Oz after walking a long way to get the one open lift. No more skiing today ! The bars will be busy.

Wow so much snow has fallen! I had to dig my car out in Bourg this morning, then dig it out again at the end of day.
One of the heaviest snowfalls I can remember since I’ve been here (12 years).
Snow should have stopped by tomorrow but high winds unfortunately.
Xmas day onwards looks fantastic.

Out of interest, any recommendation as to decent places to stop for lunch for "simple" food like , burgers, sausage/chips, sandwiches etc . We've used the Sandwicherie De Berges and found it to be OK, Le2000

I would ski down to Oz. there is a lovely bar/restaurant and the plat de jour its e17. the food is wonderful.
https://www.oz-en-oisans.com/winter/offers/la-potee-oz-restaurant-oz-en-winter-2795292/
the supermarket in ADH is great for sandwiches. surprisingly reasonable. thats the cheapest way to have a quick feed.
i stopped looking in ADH when I skied down first day, and tried to get a coffee and was told I would have to spend e20 if I was using a card. which is of course cowdoo. I would get out adh and Oz is a good option.

Was out there a week ago and with our 3 lads and we stopped at "Le Spot" most days for lunch. It's a smallish hut serving simple food and is just off a green run called "Chez Roger"

Le spot is great if it’s sunny.
You can get a sandwich or simple food at the snack bar in the pyramid shaped building up on Signal. Great views.
Pizzas are great at Le Grange at Alpette.
The restaurants down in Montfrais are good. The vaujaniat quite reasonable.

Le Spot - but get there early (especially on sunny days) as its just a hatch and queues quickly build up.

Pistes are great above 2000m, hard snow but no ice so loads of grip even on the scraped bits in the afternoon.
Below that, the runs back to resort level are, for board riders anyway, scarily hard and fast.
There is a bit of windblown powder at the top but avalanche level is 4 and everything mid altitude down is as hard as the pistes.
It got a bit mogully on some mid level pistes by mid afternoon but was ok until the cloud came down, then it became "tricky".
Don't know about lower down, not going there!

Cheeky day off today spent supporting my daughter at the Villard Reculas ski race on the signal….the life of a ski parent!
Unfortunately we had a fatality in resort yesterday. Happened in Auris.

sorry to follow up such a sad story with a mundane query but …
going to Vaujany for first time in half term (yes, i know). Once you’ve been pshed aside by ski school kids and then squeezed onto the cable car in Vaujany can you ride it all the way to 2800 or do you have to get off at Alpette and join another queue for the second stretch?
Makes it hard to book a time for Pic Blanc 3 if the latter.

It's two separate cable cars, so you have to get off and join another queue. The length of that can vary enormously. If you're lucky (particularly if you're last on the lower lift so near the doors to get out first!) you'll get straight on the first one going, but you may have to wait for a couple at the worst times. Not sure we've ever waited more than about 15 to 20 minutes even at new year or half term, but perhaps we've just gone and done something else if we saw the queue was particularly bad.
Very sad news about the fatality.

Thank you. I’m not sure I’ve ever waited more than 10 minutes for a lift so I might need to adjust my expectations.
