Vonn survives and does ok in her first trips down Copper Mtn. Not a WC race but other WC racers were there training for next week at the Beav.

Braathen fell out with the Norwegian team over some personal sponsorship clothing stuff IIRC.

There was some social media stuff too, I think they wanted to strictly control what he could post on Instagram

The Norwegians seem to be doing OK even without Lucas Pinheiro Braathen on the team. Atle Lie Mcgrath was 4th, Henrik Kristoffersen 5th and Alexander Steen Olsen 9th. There were no French, German, Swedish or Canadian skiers in the top 10, only one Italian and one Austrian, and only one Swiss skier, albeit he won.

They didn't want him posting crap on social media, he had a meltdown over it and quit for a year. Think his mum is Brazilian hence the move.
He is the only Skier on the world cup who I don't like to see win

Enjoyed the racing this weekend though. Thought the men's Super-G looked brutal and the winners trophy somewhat underwhelming!

I'm so happy to see Braathen back again skiing so beautifully. But what is Discoveryplus playing at? I was finally able to watch the rest of the GS run 1 today, but on going back to the alpine page to watch run 2, both the full runs were no longer there - there were only the E2 versions - 30 minutes which included 8 minutes of ads, and no starting line up for run 2 to be found in either

This sounds like a you issue (no offence), because I watched both runs in full last night on discovery+

Why should the Norweigans be allowed to choose what he posts on his private account? He doesn't post anything crazy on there.

He just came across as a spoilt kid in the interview when he announced his retirement.

@russ_e, if they're controlling what pictures he puts on Instagram then imagine what else they're trying to dictate. Can't blame him for wanting out of that, IMO.

Clean track for Dave in Val D this morning! Bib 1 should give him a boost but the conditions are tricky with snow and low vis...

@russ_e, he is a kid as you said. I watched him take second in the GS at Beaver Creek and he sounded bright, sensitive, thoughtful and most of all thankful to his supporters. When you take the money, they own you, like LIV golfers. Or you can chart your own course. It worked for Ghirardelli, and it seems to be working for Brathen. Still tight with his ex-teammates as well. I like the kid.

Stunning from Odermatt in the GS in the worst of conditions. Kept his head, let technique do the talking.

Watching today’s mens SG in Selva Val Gardena, the drone shots following the skiers really emphasise the insane speeds these guys ski at.
Selva looked stunning after the recent snow.

One of those days where the the run became quicker as the numbers went on, probably due to the soft snow being skied off by the earlier numbers.
I had a watch on YouTube of the women's europa cup slalom which was being held in the Ahrntal which is just the other side of the border from us in the Zillertal. Reece Bell was going well before falling.

For those that have been on the BB, watching the mens Val Gardena DH and knowing what its like to ski the run really puts the racers time into perspective!
While that race had some excitement - the media's focus was squarely on the return of Vonn to the world cup circuit this weekend.
Damn did she impress with a start number of 31 she secured .14th in the Super G at St Mortiz - what makes this even more impressive is this is after 5 years off the circuit and numerous surgeries - not to mention one earlier this year!
She skied effortlessly and it just goes to highlight the talent she had ( well still very visibly still has!) and the years she was robbed by injuries!

Odermatt's 4th sector with the 0.8sec gain was crazy! Huge gains!
Glad Gauche got up from her fall #1 down the course in St Moritz, that looked like it had the potential to really hurt, and could easily have blown a knee.
As they said with Vonn, it almost looked like she skied within herself at the top, so it'll be interesting to see how she loosens up through the season.

Odermatt getting back to his imperious best, a great win. His ability to adapt to slight errors or imperfections at 80mph is a wonder.
Loved seeing some late runners break into the top 20.

Yesterday I was skiing at Radstadt and at lunchtime one of the mountain restaurants was showing the DH from Val Gardena, nice to see the SassLong course again. This morning I'm skiing at Zauchensee, just called in to a restaurant for a hot chocolate and the TV there is showing the GS from Alta Badia, so I'm keeping up with this weekend's races!

Limbs flayling all over the place, yes lucky.

Well, after that performance I think we can say Odermatt back with a big bang!
|

Sarrazin, that was horrendous.
Little wonder Odermatt and some great skiers prior to that were visibly holding back a few percent (imho) compared to others. An incredibly fast slope. Sarrazin was dominating training runs times.

Subdural haematoma....in surgery

@Snow&skifan, I haven't seen the Sarrazin incident but the course looked ridiculously hard for such a fast and long track. There was a slow mo of someone (possibly Bryce Bennett) and it was remarkable how much the ski was flexing in the air over the bumps. It's not like a world cup downhill ski is particularly floppy but it looked like a wobbly bit of cardboard.
I do question if the safety of skiers is being considered...but if they keep skiing it then I don't think anything will change
