@holidayloverxx, thank, yes, found it. The ORF player is pretty good and lets you go back to earlier programmes.
This VPN lark has worked well for today, except that all the races on ORF had the commentary in German, I will need to have a word with Nigle Farage about this discrimination.
But where are the USA races being shown? If they are only Discovery+, I might have to get a subscription for a month |
All of the races are usually on ORF, maybe occasionally on Servus.tv too (still German commentary but sometimes with motorsport it is original broadcaster English in browser on PC but German on mobile)
2 enjoyable races with some unexpected times from some racers in both.

@ster, I have Discovery+ so watch it all on the player, as i'm usually skiing when the races are on.
Alternatively if you have a "dodgy" firestick or the like, then you'll be able to find it on the US channels.

Just watched Laurie Taylor's Behind The Brits on YouTube and the slope in Levi is looking somewhat bare. Fingers crossed for some colder weather this week.

Looks very icy, I wouldn’t fancy it much
Glad to see there is a lot of mutual gratuitous physical chastisement for minor transgressions.

I'm always really impressed at their football skills. Wouldn't fancy playing them in a 5-a-side match.

There is a suggestion of moving the Gurgl slaloms to Soelden.

Given there's currently no snow there, it's not surprising. I'm holding off on buying a ticket until nearer the time.

Good race today, without Vlhova in the line up, Shiffrin doesn't have much in the way of competition, and no doubt after the last races' 2nd run she was determined not to repeat that!

@swskier, it really highlights either the lack in depth or just how good Shiffrin and Vlhova are. Probably the latter, it's a shame for so many skiers that they happen to be competing at the same time as one of the greats.
I only watched the second run highlights but I wouldn't say that it was Mikaela at her best, yet she takes a win with a large margin.

@SnoodyMcFlude, she didn't need to be at her best in run 2 because of her first run.
I guess for the women in SL, it's a bit like tennis with Federer, Nadal and Djokovic.
I do prefer watching the men because it's more competitive across all disciplines. (albeit Odermatt so dominated the GS last season)

Would really be interested to know how close Mikaella or Vlahova would run to the men on the same course.

@extremerob, it would be interesting to see how they coped with the trickier sets men have vs what the women race on. I feel they'd hold their own but not more than that.

I enjoyed it to, and it did what it was set out to do, Dave skiing in to 5th in that first run, shame he was miles off in the 2nd run.
Fingers crossed for all 3 of them to make the 2nd run next weekend.

So so so - this could be an interesting development in watching ski racing - I have tried this out and it seems to work. FIS are live streaming all races now via their own web TV
https://watch.fis-ski.com/home
You need to use a VPN to get this to work - why use this source - English Language is available!!!!
VPN will need to connect to one of the following countires:
If you need a VPN i can highly recommend using NordVPN

Yes its a referral link but we both get something out of it

Good, far easier than hunting down the countries channels where it might be live (and which still need a VPN anyway) and still overall cheaper than paying for Eurosport on Discovery+

An interesting podium today, good to see 2 newbies!
Holdener pushing Mikaela close on the first run, but no one can quite get near here again over 2 runs! 100 wins next weekend I suspect, and what a place to do it in the US!

Not a bad result in the end. Listened to a couple of interviews with Dave and I got the impression that this might be his last season. I hope not!

Shiffrin is visibly better than the rest in so many runs. Errors are minor and generally corrected in a split second. Everything’s so fluid. Obviously physically strong, but it never seems to be about power and brute force.

@Snow&skifan, Shiffrin seems to be just so technically accurate, and you're right, she then doesn't need the brute power, like you see in a lot of the males, particularly on that steep pitch yesterday.
Good result for Dave and Laurie, Dave pulling out a much improved 2nd run vs last week in Levi. Laurie with an 8th best time on the 2nd run and beating Dave while he was at it. If he can keep making 2nd runs, posting some top 20's and getting his start number down, he could start consistently start scoring well.
It was noticeable the difference in the men's vs women's race, with the ice injection and course set, the men really do have tougher set ups. I wonder if that's just due to the men being physically more powerful than the women, or what? If the women raced on the same set ups as the men, they'd soon start performing well also, but without setting courses like that, they'll never have the opportunity.

Well, even the best hit the pavement once in a while, and Shiffrin did today. Took her down in a sled, but it's encouraging that she was asking about her splits.
