@Alastair Pink, how do you know please? We have discovery + |
If you have the Discovery+ app (which I get with my btinternet package) then at the bottom of the page you click on the sports icon and then on the next page at the top you can select all sports and then Alpine Skiing. |
Yes I know that, that's what we do...but how do you know that will still be available when eurosport closes? It seems to be linked to eurosport as it is eurosport coverage without the ads |
Skiing, cycling and tennis coverage is currently Eurosport and we will be forced to upgrade to TNT at 30.99 to watch these sports. Big hit for cycling as ITV will drop coverage after 2025. I will see if I can subscribe to Disco+ in France using VPN and a French debit card. It’s not great that all spots now moving to a duopoly of NOW and TNT. I am cancelling Doscovery as I have NOW for EPL and F1 and will have to pirate other sports is I can’t get the French Discovery+.

good results for the brits in slalom at schladming tonight, 2 finished in the top 20 and one in mid twenties, i wont mention who finished where in case of upsetting anyone.
not sure if we have had all 3 in the top 30, but 10% of the top 30 from a non alpine country is good going in my books!!!

Great race, we're thinking we might try to go and watch it next season.
The Brits did well, it's really impressive to get 3 in the top 30 when you consider where they're coming from.

I think Dave will be disappointed, he certainly looked it, but he'd clearly put a huge effort in. He's probably tired of hearing it, but when you consider the age of the guys he's competing against and beating, I think it's remarkably impressive, especially when you consider the names that have retired at a younger age

@SnoodyMcFlude, agreed, he seems to have a knack for skiing his way down the leaderboard on run 2 this season. Perhaps the transition to Head isn't quite going totally to plan.
It's all relative of course, he's an exceptional skier and racer.

The FIS know how much you lot love watching skiing, so much so that for a 3rd night on the trot there is a night race.
Tonight the women take on the Stade Émile-Allais for some night slalom!!!
Shiffrin is back from injury - and I was told BBC were airing the race - but that seems to be a bit of a lie!
Either way run 1 on at the moment, and run 2 is at 1900 UK time.

@swskier, yes, i saw she won (her first ever i think) a fis slalom race in austria the other day, amongst the prizes, were a loaf of bread, pickles, large chunk of cheese and what looked like a portion of cured ham, the race sponsor was a supermarket chain
her younger brother was also competing on the same day, on his first ever race, not sure how he ended up, but a fellow brit was on the podium, but i did not catch his name
her bio says she grew up in Megeve, so i am assuming she may be related to Simon Butler (presumably his daughter) who is infamous on snowheads for winning a protracted court case against the french ski industry a few years ago regarding some of the ski instructors he employed, but it could just be a coincidence and a shared surname!!

@terrygasson, the other brit on the podium was Freddy Carrick-Smith, he had 2 2nd places at that race scoring 28.84 points and 33.31 points. He then went on to a europa cup race 2 days later finishing 31st, very decent for a 17 year old.
The big thing for Molly was that she scored 23 points which is the minimum penalty points for that race, so very impressive.
Her brother was some way off in the Theirsee races, but he's only 16 still!

Can someone please explain how the . Italians scalped the Swiss in the mixed team parallel?
If i'm not mistaken it was .2-2 on races and the combined time of the .swiss was lower than the Italians given their +1.55 in run 3?

@extremerob, I think the calculation is on the fastest M + F times for each team, that is how it was explained on the l'Equipe broadcast.

|

@rjs, Thanks - interesting - don't seem to recall that was the case in Cortina where the deficit was capped at 0.6 seconds.
I guess the new set-up makes every one of the 4 races count - thinking out loud is there a scenario where for example in both F races a team lost by 0.01s, and then won only one of the M races but by a significant margin.
Such that the combined time of M+F is better with only 1 win, than the other teams M+F with 3 wins. Can you also progress/medal with only 1 win, or do you also need 2 wins?
|

 You know it makes sense.
|
Mixed team parallel is teams of 4: 2 male, 2 female, so 4 races per heat (M1 v M1, F1 v F1, M2 v M2 and F2 vF2)
If one team wins 3 or more races, they win the heat and progress to the next round.
If each team wins 2 races, the winner of the heat is decided by adding the winning race times together, with the fastest combined time going through. In the first instance it is the number of wins that count - the combined time only comes into play if each team wins 2 races. It is not possible to progress by only winning one race (unless all 6 racers in three of the races, or all 4 racers in two of the races, crash and DNF).
I was in the stands today, along with about 13,000 others. A great atmosphere but bloody cold. GB went out in the first round, and the Austrians went out in their first heat, which was the quarter finals as they had a bye in the first round. The later rounds got very exciting, with one semi-final decided (on combined times) by 0.01 sec.

@quinton, having skied down the Zwölferkogel alongside the racecourse, I was also in the stands (silver section), and yes, it was a superb atmosphere and very well organised - and, as you say, bloody cold. I don’t normally follow televised ski racing, but it was quite dramatic seeing it live, and I even got a bit emotional when I saw how much it meant to the racers, and how they pushed themselves.
I also realised what a big deal it is, with so many countries of the world represented. And why Saalbach-Hinterglemm was so incredibly chuffed to be given the honour of hosting it.
I walked through Hinterglemm afterwards, on my way to the bus terminal, and World Cup party fever has certainly gripped the village. Saalbach is a lot calmer. It was good to see all the snow cannons blasting away.

Exciting racing to place 30 in the end.
The crowds love Vonn, superstars always seem more likeable when they come back but don’t win everything and maybe more mature in outlook, seen more ordinary/human maybe?
Pity the one and only British (?) lady racer’s race in the SG ended so early with a seemingly technical issue.
