@Dylan_T42, hope you're having a good time despite the sub optimal conditions.
Going to give mayrhofen a go today. The sun is great when it's cold but would take a bit less of it given the warm temps.
Enjoy.

Myself & Mrs.T42 currently on the Greenline bus up to the Hintertux glacier with good visibility & only occasional spot of mizzle on the windscreen. Plenty of snow cover. Looks misty at 2000m but no solid cloud base so hopefully reasonable visibility, though likely very flat light.
No need for sunnies today
EDIT#1: Visibility decreasing rapidly in the strong wind & sleet
 Blizzard, more like!
EDIT#2: Visibility just increased rapidly, just after the rescue helicopter left with its first passenger of the day
 View from the v.nice restaurant :-}

@Dylan_T42, enjoy. The snow should be great up there if the vis clears. Had alsorts so far in mayrhofen today. Rain, snow, could barely see 5m in front of me, now warm sunshine. Good fun though. Feels busy and snow starting to get soft so could be interesting later.

@slider24, indeed it did, albeit after the minor blizzard AM, which lead to a ... challenging... first run and then a returning show shower over lunch.
But I'll let the PM pictures speak for themselves, except that:

Wrong!
Snow was nice & squeaky above 2,500m
Must stop chopping Mrs.T42 in half..

Arrived today. Airport pretty busy but love the INN quick arrival of bags.
Sun poking through and looking forward to (hopefully) some good conditions after the snow. Guide booked for some adventure

@Scooter in Seattle, Saturday is a great day for skiing!
Roads are quiet today. Looking at the school holiday page, looks like not many regions on holiday across Europe.

This is exactly why I am here now. Somebody on snow heads prepares an awesome spreadsheet of all the school holidays and I live and die by that thing.

Quite tricky conditions the last couple of days. Yesterday had new snow on lumpy icy pistes and a white out. Today white out continued but piste conditions were mainly lovely with really nice new snow (must have snowed all night?) and quite a bit colder. Still a white out though!

@Matrix, I've never eaten at the Gschösswandhaus, always seemed a bit of a trek, also it used to be used by the kids ski schools which was sufficient to put off most. Must give it a try sometime.
We had a week booked from next Saturday staying in Mikes sports bar but I ended up postponing it around Christmas due to Kim not feeling ready after her injuries last year. However she is now feeling better but she didn't want to go back to the Hof so we have ended up booking a week in Ischgl instead.
Feeling like I'm cheating on the Hof.

@JimboS, it’s our first week back here after my wife broke her leg last year. I understand completely.
It’s quite easy to get the restaurant. You take the t-bar in the beginners area and go straight from the top. After lunch you can ski back to the chair lift. No walking involved. There are ski school kids but they have their own room at the back.

Now starting to think about 2026, looks like we will have a big family get together, 4 generations, one great grand parent, two grand parents (us), 10 kids/parents with partners and two grandchildren.
Will probably stay in either the Neu Haus or Neu Post. Given the great grand parent isn't too mobile I'm thinking the larger garden in the Neu House would suit best.

The Neu Haus has built a huge new wing with a pool on the roof. At least I think it’s new.

@Matrix, how was your wife on her first day back on snow? I broke my leg back in 96 at Hillend dry ski slope, about 3 months later I was up at Hintertux and it was pretty nerve wracking.

@JimboS, she is skiing but in pain. I think she will need some new boots / liners as the bone shape has changed. Yes she is quite nervous now which is not so surprising. I guess it will be a long journey back!

Had a fantastic day yesterday. Short(ish) day tour from Rastkogel to Hochfugen. Guide Christoph Garber superb (second year we have been with him). Found some nice powder turns in pretty warm conditions and a really nice route overall.

@Matrix, I saw that route on FatMaps before strava killed it. A worthwhile tour?

@swskier, it’s a good route for those of us that are not super fit! The route starts at 8er Horbergjoch and you skin up towards Rastkogel, either skirting the summit or you can summit of your wish. Prob 250-260m of vert ascent, steep to start with then flatter after 25 mins.
Then it’s all down hill through the next valley towards the Rastkogel Hutte keeping left. We didn’t visit the hut. It would probably require another 30-40 mins of skinning. We skinned the oposite side (150m vert) and then skied down into Hoch Fugen.
Would also be a very nice hike in the summer.

Because the lift starts you high up there is less of the “up” and more of the down.

@Matrix, that's the impression I got of the route before Strava killed fatmaps.
I know the route it comes down in to Hochfügen, as we've skinned up that track to a farm with the dog last season.
One for me to try at some point then!

A big storm forecast for this weekend. Bergfex currently showing 80cm at the top of Mayrhofen across Saturday-Monday.

Got back last weekend from a fantastic stag/ski trip to mayrhofen. All I can say is, what a place.
I have overlooked mayrhofen in the past and to be honest I don't know why (I wont be doing that again). low visibility Saturday and Sunday with some fresh snow then 4 days of blue skies.
absolutely fantastic conditions to be found.
Stayed at the Obermair near the petrol station, I would stay at this hotel again. Bus stop outside the hotel 1 stop to the station, 2 to the Penkenbahn.
Great bars, spent a lot of time at happy end, scottys, mikes, then found Ellies, lovely place.
Thanks swskier with some early advice/info a few months back and anyone else who contributes to this forum.
I will absolutely be returning to Mayrhofen maybe even next year.

@jenson101, glad you enjoyed yourself, last week was great from Monday onwards, perfect spring skiing!
It's been snowing all day today, we had a couple of hours up in Zell am Ziller with not a lot of visibility at all, but it was really quiet up there. I reckon we had around 15cm of fresh snow on the black 20a and it's not stopped since we came down.
Tomorrow we're planning on Hintertux, aiming to arrive mid/late morning when the sun should appear.
Yesterday we managed a couple of hours up in Hochfügen after work, and I got to show Mrs Swskier how the bi-ski works.
Here I am "bucketing" her

Hi all,
I’m looking for some local knowledge.
I’ve got a friend heading to Zillertal in a couple of weeks.
He’s bought a set of black crows and bindings separately and needs to find somewhere that would mount the bindings for him in resort.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks for reading

looking at going to hochzillertal next week april 6 - 10, on the webcams it looks like a decent amount of snow up top, i dont mind skiing in a bit of slush and getting the gondola back down, according to the interactive map on the website their are plenty of runs and lifts open, i just have to decide wether to go for it.

A weekend away in the UK means I had to make up some lost ground with a quick pre work ski in Kaltenbach!
Conditions were firm from the overnight freeze, it was -2 as I drove to the lift down in the valley.

Some very cheap deals to the Hof with TUI right now, cheapest date seems to be May 31st. Kim vetoed that as we as just back from Porto so booked up for 14th June, pretty much a year to the day since our last trip when were thrashed by Germany at the Euros opening game. Also noted that adding a ski bag was half the price of doing so in winter.
