@Alastair Pink, Jasmin was doing a BASI Telemark CPD, and I was one of the lucky ones doing it. Not every day you get to learn from the current world #1.
This was alongside Freeheeler Telemark events (Campus for Pros, and European Opening for everyone) that made for great start to the winter.

Indeed, nice to meet some old friends (and meet some new ones) at the Telemark Opening event.
As regards Jaz as you probably know she took part in the FIS race on the Saturday and got a podium position coming 3rd, with Goril Strom Erikson from Norway 2nd ans Argeline Tan Bouquet from France 1st. Here's a photo at the prize giving:

A sprinkling of snow last night at our apartment (650m) so just up from the valley floor. Looking around 50cm over the weekend around 2500m i.e. the top of Mayrhofen, Zell am Ziller etc and around 85cm at the top of Hintertux.
We should also see around 20cm in the valley too, with temperatures to stay cold through to next week, around 1-2 degrees in the valley during the day

I was up in Zillertal arena this morning and it was absolutely lovely!
It was great not have to drive all the way up to Hintertux to ski, just the 7 minutes from our apartment!
No link open over to Gerlos, and not all the runs open on thre Zell, but the majority were.
Pistes were great, and it was really quiet.
A friend drove over from Rosenheim and he also thought it was really great. Lift prices were cheaper, and he got €10.50 for returning it before 1pm as well!
Hintertux tomorrow and some stormy weather incoming!

Booked Konigsleiten for a week in March....are the other Zillertal areas worth going to visit for a day trip or is there enough in the Arena to keep us busy? If there was one other area to go to which would be suggested? Thanks.

@rjp123, probably from Konigsleiten you would have to drive over the pass which would be weather dependent as the ski to Zell am Ziller then onto another area wouldn’t make a great trip (unless taxi from the base station). If you drive over then the car park at Kaltenbach is easiest or the car park at Horbergbahn for Mayrhofen.
It might be possible to try going in the other direction and heading into Kitzbühel via the Panoramabahn at Hollersbach?
As to your question. I think there is enough for a week especially is you are intermediates and can ski to Zell and back.

At least 60cm fresh snow up top and 40cm in Mayhrofen, when the sun came out it was amazing, best conditions I have seen in the Zillertal and we are in for a treat over the next 3 days.

Less than 2 weeks until I'm skiing in Zillertal! Glad to see conditions look to be in great shape!
My wife and I are very experienced skiers, but it's our first time in Zillertall. If anyone wants to meet up for some turns, especially off-piste, and show us around a bit, let me know!

@TOLOCOMAN, i'm away the weekends of the 11/12 and 18/19 and working during the week, so I won't be of any use to you unfortunately!
Happy to give advice on where to ski etc, just won't be around at all.

Just back from a week in Mayrhofen, conditions superb indeed, except for the poor visibility in the heavy snow. Had the great pleasure to meet the esteemed Swskier and his lovely partner, with the extra bonus of meeting their cute doggy too. Cheers guys, much enjoyed.

Yeah, we'll be skiing there Jan 9-15, so a meet up won't work. Might hit you up for some advice though. Thanks!

Hi Everyone,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this; but here goes...
Heading out to Mayrhofen for a week in early Feb, looking for some advice on places to explore with a beginnerish/intermediate skiier (my partner)
I've been to Mayrhofen a couple of times, but only for short weekend trips, and mainly stuck to the main Penken areas.
We will have a rental car and are very interested in driving elsewhere to explore the rest of the Zillertal Arena, so if anyone knows of any particular areas that are maybe a nudge quieter than the main Penken area and suited more for a beginner, please let me know! (thinking mostly blues with some easier reds)
Thanks in advance! )

@benmalpasss, Ahorn is a really gentle area to get warmed up on, but it lacks a bit once you're more than a few days in to skiing. I'm up there all weekend teaching my Nephew for his first time on skis.
Kaltenbach has some nice wide gentle blues, and i'd recommend there probably. Penken area is probably ok too, especially over towards in the Rastkogel area.

@benmalpasss, if you have a car go to Kaltenbach for a day and to Zell am Ziller. Both have some gentle pistes and easy to navigate.

I would say the Hintertux too if the sun is out and wind is low. Nice wide posted areas and amazing views.

The red pistes on the Penken are quite steep and I wouldn’t recommend for a novice or timid intermediate. On the Horberg mountain the pistes are all fairly modest except the the two black runs and avoid is you don’t like steep.

But beware, Blue 17 has probably the steepest blue pitch you'll ever ski from next to the Tuxerjoch haus.

@swskier Thanks for the regular updates and pictures. Heading out to Zillertal for the first time in a few weeks for 4 days skiing. We are staying in Aschau and plan to have 2 days in Kaltenbach area and 2 days at Zillertal. All competent skiers, so does this sound like the right split. Also any recommendations for mountain huts and best apres spots would be great.

@cham08, that seems a good split to me. Certainly you'd be able to cover all runs in Kaltenbach/Hochfügen in 2 days, but you'd struggle to cover everything in the Zillertal arena (Zell am Ziller) in 2 days due to the distance requried to travel all the way to Hochkrimml and back.
In terms of restaurants, we don't eat out on the slopes too often as we only tend to ski half days, but we have had a nice meal in the Holzalm in the Kaltenbach/Hochfügen area, and on New Years day we had a nice lunch in Arena Stadl in the Zillertal arena. We've also had a nice meal in Wiesenalm at the mid station in Zell am Ziller.
In terms of apres ski, there's 2 lively bars at the bottom of the 2 lifts in Zell am Ziller, and in Kaltenbach there's the Postalm, but I can't say if it's busy or not as i've never been. My apres ski tends to be driving back to the apartment and catching up on the ski racing I missed as I was skiing in the morning!

Just arrived in Zillertal this evening, after skiing Skiwelt today. Based on what we saw today, I'm guessing off piste is in pretty rough shape for tomorrow, but hopefully improving with the predicted snow? If I'm wrong, would love to hear suggestions on what might be skiing the best right now.
Will probably do more days at Arena than the others since we have Super Ski Cards and have to pay for others. Is Saturday the quietest day here like other places where Saturday is a travel day for others? Or does the proximity to Innsbruck and Munich negate that?
Thanks for any tips/suggestions!

@TOLOCOMAN, you'll not find that many Innsbruckers coming to Zillertal, but you get plenty of Munich-ers/Germans, certainly in Kaltenbach where I usually am on a Saturday morning, the car park is rammed with coaches for day trippers from Germany by the time I come down at 10.30/11.
Snow conditions likely best in Hintertux, but i'm not sure how the wind over the weekend will have effected the snow up there.
You'll not be any worse off in Zillertal Arena than anywhere else in the valley though i'd imagine.
