Poster: A snowHead

Usually take my daughter's to somewhere like saalbach or more usually Mayrhofen. Next year my trips will be solo. In Jan I already have a few days booked in Zell am ziller and then a few more in mayrhofen so will have a few days of ski school and then have a play with the carv on rastkogel / hintertux.
Anyway booked a week 8th march to Innsbruck but no accomodation yet. I was thinking of ischgl but wondering if I need something quite so lively and expensive as a solo mid 50's tedious man?. I was wondering if somewhere like Serfaus might be more suitable?, I like a little sing song and some old school tunes, bed by 2300 and brekkie at 7. Or is there anywhere else I could think about with reasonable transport links from innsbruck?

@ollski2.0, Not sure you count as a veteran yet you are a few years behind me! I only go to the Arlberg these days. St Anton is so easy by train, the station is in the middle of the village with direct trains from Innsbruck. Whilst there are still party spots it is not "party central" it used to be. I believe Gunar is still going to be bashing out tunes at the Murrmel bar (he is past retirement age) as he has for many years. Biggest downside is cost of accommodation, which has gone up a lot in recent years, few of the traditional "Pension Garni" left, too many 4 star spa hotels! However there are still a few more reasonable spots to be found if you book early. You certainly wont feel out of place, from my observations last year average visitor age seemed to be 50+ but maybe I am biased.
Serfaus fairly easy to get to, train to Landeck then bus (much shorter trip than Ischgl) but perhaps a bit too quiet more aimed at the family market.

Obviously want good skiing, budget eating, a pub / bar on a sort of Scotland yard level maybe with a bit of a guitarist in a hotel bar type of vibe.

@ollski2.0, this is absolutely not what you're asking for but....
For CARV, best pistes in my opinion around the Zillertal are in Hintertux, specifically blue 12, 13 & 14.
Also in Kaltenbach blue 9 and red 10 are good as well.
In Mayrhofen I reckon 67 is probably the best, but often find it's just a bit busy to really go for it in Mayrhofen.

I got a soft spot for 67, any recommendations for Zell am ziller?

@ollski2.0, despite being able to look at Zell am Ziller from my lounge window, i've probably skied there the least of the valley. I did get a decent score one day over in Hochkrimml on red 78:
I also remember the runs over that way being nice, and would be decent for using CARV. Bit of a schlep over there though, but worth it.

I'm staying there for 3 days then going up to mayrhofen for 3 days. I've skied 15 weeks in mayrhofen since 1990 but never been to hintertux....in fact first time on Ahorn last year aswell.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@ollski2.0, Hintertux is the best area in my opinion for really working on your skiing, it's definitely worth heading up there.
I haven't set foot on Ahorn yet in the winter, either. Although Mrs Swskier learnt to ski there while in the Army. Also haven't made it down to Spieljoch in Fügen either!

I'm a fan of the Stubai glacier for solo skiing (seems much bigger than it looks on the piste map) admittedly you are at the mercy of extreme weather a bit there.
If you fancy the pistes at Ischgl but want somewhere a bit cheaper & quieter you could take a look at Samnaun although it would only really work if you are driving.
