Because the Epic Pass is priced in USD and the WB day passes in CAD.
(Edit to clarify maths & Epic Pass perks) You’re really weighing $762x1.35 =$1029 vs $800, which makes it a bit more clear that your basic question is whether the additional $229 is worth it for the option to ski the extra afternoon & morning. Also, you get 20% off lessons and food on the mountain with the Epic Pass, but not the WB Day Pass - so if you’re planning on doing any lessons, it would be make the Epic Local more worthwhile.
Even without the extra morning etc, it might be worth getting the Epic Local if you make use of the 5 days in Andermatt and/or Crans Montana also included on the pass. ETA I see others have mentioned the upgrade to the full Epic further down this thread.

Should be fine with using all 10 (premium) days of Epic Local at WB. Plus the added Euro bennies of you can make it.
If you are planning a week in 3V or around Madonna/Folgarida etc might even be worth you upgrading to full epic.
Why is the season pass cheaper - because they are trying to lock in your loyalty (and collateral spend) to their resorts all season. And to get your cash upfront before the season starts (stop selling in November don't miss the cutoff).

Do watch if you buy your pass early. If anything happens which means you wouldn't be able to travel then you will never get your money back for your passes, despite what the website says!

What about Epic Coverage which is included for free, are you saying it didn't work for you? Or that you failed to meet one of the conditions like claiming in time?

The Epic Coverage didn't work, I claimed well before we travelled and met all the criteria. A Google at the time showed that it appeared to be normal that refunds were virtually impossible to obtain. It was an expensive mistake to think i could save some money by buying the lift pass separately and not as part of the package holiday we were going on - the TO refunded everything else as expected. When we rebooked to go to Whistler a few years later, I booked everything through the TO (and we actually went on the holiday which helped!)

1) Epic Coverage does work. I had to claim once, due to injury, successfully. No fuss. It took quite a long time though (several months)
2) Do read all the fine prints. For everything else that’s no listed as covered, hopefully you have your own insurance to cover those.

@SarahRad, I assume your own travel insurance then kicked in for everything the vendors wouldn't refund. I remember that being the case when I was repatriated with a broken leg.

This - travel insurance paid out when we cancelled a DIY trip, just needed proof of purchase and details of non refund.

That's my family's experience too; my sister had to resubmit her claim when frozen shoulder kicked in, because the first letter from her doctor didn't contain sufficient details. But the resubmission was successful once she sent the actual form to her doctor to tailor the letter more closely to what the insurance company requires.
As a useful reference for anyone reading this thread in the future, someone over on Reddit wrote up a comprehensive guide of what to do if you have a medical reason for cancelling your trip. The post includes listing all the fields in the form that the doctor will need to fill in. (No advice for other causes though, which include military duty & job loss...but only if you've been in your current role >1yr)

So why is the epic card cheaper Eh oh!
|
Because you’re skiing 8 days instead of 6, which is the most common practice of holiday skiers.
There’re many season passes that are priced to break even at > 7 days.
