Poster: A snowHead

Folks,
Mrs Johnboy just booked a cheap Ryanair into Bergamo arriving tomorrow evening (late), so will stay at airport and hire a car and go somewhere Friday morning staying Fri Night and home teatime on Sat.
So, ideas?
Stelvio Pass? Is it worth staying up there or better to stay in Bormio? Not looking nightlife but a cosy hotel/ bar to eat good food and drink Italian Wine!!
Other options: Milan, one of the Lakes but I am drawn to the Mountains!
Hit me with ideas!

I loved Bormio and it certainly does cosy hotel/bars for great food and wine! We ate at hotel la genzianella.
We rode the Stelvio and it’s a magnificent pass, especially in good weather - rent a convertible to enjoy the views!
Bellagio is also a very nice spot for a weekend as is Verona.
You are spoilt for choice!

UPDATE
Well, we went for it. Belfast - Bergamo with Ryanair. Thursday - Saturday
Arrived into a very rainy Bergamo last Thursday night and stayed in an airport hotel. Collected our Fiat Panda on Friday morning, the weather cleared as we drove towards the mountains through Edolo and Aprica towards Bormio. Drove straight to the summit of the Stelvio Pass where it was snowing, road was clear but close to 1m of fresh snow on the Pass! Had lunch and a drink before heading back to Bormio. Booked Hotel San Lorenzo on way down the mountain and checked in. This is a really beautiful hotel, I would highly recommend. We went for a walk around Bormio which is beautiful and stopped at 3 bars for drinks and in typical Italian style we were given loads of nibbles, crisps, nuts, cheese and ham. So much that we didn't need to have an evening meal! Night cap at hotel and off to bed. Next morning up and away early in our trusty Panda, we decided to return via the Passo Gavia which takes you to an impressive 2650m! Scenery probably more stunning than the Stelvio and the road a little narrower. Into Ponte di Legno and we decided to take a quick trip up to Passo Tonale where we have skied quite a few times. Tonale really is quite drab compared to beautiful Bormio! Then it was time to return to the airport! Less than 48 hrs in Italy, but a fantastic trip.
Costs for 2 people
Flights: £100
Car Park: £50
Car Hire: £60
Fuel £40
Airport Hotel: £120
Bormio Hotel: £145 (It was well worth it, beautiful hotel San Lorenzo)
Food and drinks:£180
Total £695 = £347.50 per person
To compare, this was the same cost as 2 nights in a fancy Spa Hotel at home. Well worth it!

@johnboy, sounds like it was a great trip away.
For what it's worth for future trips, a close friend of mine lives in Italy (always moving around as his partner plays in the Women's Serie A) but he's said to me before, Bergamo itself is lovely, albeit reasonably small, and also that Verona is well worth a weekend away to, and not too far from Bergamo either.

@swskier,
Cheers, funny, we got a good view of Bergamo as we took off, and it did look like a pretty place around the centre!
