Poster: A snowHead

We're deciding on a skiing trip in either Avoriaz or Arc 1800 - our son will be 3 but likely not yet toilet trained. Our hope is that he can join a ski school or half day snow play type of thing, but I just read that 1 ski school in ARC 1800 (ESF) doesn't allow kids that aren't toilet trained. Does anyone have experience with a similar situation and what resort did/would you choose?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

@Marymed, I think you’ll be restricted to the specialist family operators (eg ski famille), and their crèche services. I’ve not heard of any French ski schools that take kids who aren’t toilet trained.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Marymed, I assume by the use of diapers, and forgive me if I`m wrong, that you are from the USA where toilet training typically happens somewhat later than in Europe. It is fairly usual for children in the UK and I think most of Europe to be toilet trained by around 18 months to 2.5 years therefore ski schools won`t be set up to deal with your situation. Though there will certainly be creches etc set up to take children in nappies/diapers.

IIRC our son was still in nappies when he learnt to ski in arc 1600 at the age of 3 or 4, but he wasn't in skischool, he was in the resort creche which took the children skiing, sledging etc as well as indoor play.
@Marymed, I suggest you investigated the creches in the resorts.

I'm from Australia but decided to use the same wording that the ESF website used

Why so shocked? France isn’t an English speaking country. So what they put on their English web site can be random.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

You know it makes sense.

@Bergmeister, we’ve started using the word vacation as holiday got confusing (canton, national, oh Spain) and I hate myself for it daily
Avoriaz - if you need good childcare there are fantastic nannies in Morzine who cover Avoriaz too. We’ve used them since ours were babies and its a great option if you don’t find creche but need care so you can ski.
