@oneglove, the statement from Nevis Range posted above by @GlasgowCyclops says that they don't intend to start their ski season until February? |
That is absurd and will not be tolerated. There’s no justification for calling themselves and being a ski resort and announcing to the world that start of season is in February! Madness And it won’t deter my wife and children going up to enjoy the scene that Whitegold presented as present lapse to be enjoyed.
Seperately the person commenting in a derogatory term, referencing Mr Pink a lower life form for replying can rest assured. That yourself and Pink are for verydeportIshouldsay so. How dare you slant my good name and falsely claim a hollow victory in the name of parasites or dweebs. It’s better to not poke the Gods of salvation and remain humble in the presence of divine light.

@oneglove, I'll in future complete disregard anything you put up on this forum, are you sure you are ok? Are you AI generated response that would certainly explain things? Yes I'm Scottish and have skied all Scottish ski areas many, many times and to be frank Cairngorm and Nevis Range aren't interested now in catering for experienced and keen skiers/snowboarders. I used to buy a season ticket for Cairngorm but no more. The only winter sports area in Scotland that's really interested in catering for experienced and keen skiers is Glencoe and it's a bit too far from where I currently live to go there for a day in what in my instances is very changeable winter weather. Better to go to the Coe in spring. The last few seasons poor old Glenshee and Lecht have had very short ski/snowboard seasons due to poor snowfall but probably more crucially very variable/fluctuating temperatures and have less altitude than other Scottish ski areas.

. Edit one glove , If the good and worthy Scottish resorts decide to open in February, I’m sure they will pack the mountainside with tracks and trails for all lovers of the outdoors adrenaline seekers or gradual endorphins no worries. The ptarmigan will keep his summer plumage on until first lifts till then.

Sorry Scotski, you’re as Scottish as you identify as. I gladly saw on your Benin Nevis that snow showers are expected on this first Sunday of December, up top the highest mountain “ the gentle bein”. We know what they say, when it’s snowing on big bein Nevis it’s a quicker decent to ye auld inn”.
Snow on Nevis.

Cover looking especially good at Cairngorm & sadly at Nevis - we're not open until February - Range. Building in the Glencoe gullies and Plateau too, but Glenshee looking thin. I haven't checked the Lecht yet...

Glencoe kicks off the lift served season tomorrow!
Delighted to report that the Rannoch Chair will open tomorrow to allow some early season skiing on the Low Road and Rankins Return.
Early season conditions so expect some thin and narrow areas. New equipment not recommended.
Sledging slope and Plateau cafe will also be open.
Tickets available online or from the ticket office.

For those of you who look at Facebook there are plenty of terrific pictures from Cairngorm.
All ski touring, one dialogue was a dispute about the number of skiers on the south face of the mountain. Speculation that there were more than 80 people up there!
Snow cover and weather looks tremendous.

Not sure @AndAnotherThing - though I think it's normally closed in early winter each year for annual maintenance

No, Gondola still running from what they said yesterday but don't even think about taking your skis, it's a hotel resort you know, not a ski resort!

Hopefully. I was pondering a potential trip up and some touring. It's a long walk from the base station.

@mountainaddict, indeed. It was free access this morning when I first read it, but now a pay wall has dropped. The story revolves around the development of skiing around Killin and Ben Lawers and the journalist’s partial recreation of what his mother did back in the day.

Great stuff @what...snow. And thanks @Ski lots.
Very interesting article, as I suspected We've stayed at Killin a few times en-route to the Highlands, but I didn't know about its ski history.
Looking forward to checking out the area's ski touring possibilities.

Contrast the above pic in 2024, with the below pic of Ben Lawers in southern Scotland at 800-1000m in 1953.
What a difference 70 years of global warming makes.

I'm not denying global warming, but there have been plenty of snowy winters in the Scottish Highlands since I started skiing there in 1988. In that time, I've skied or ski toured in every month of the year except July and September
This is Glenshee in one fairly recent snowy October (2018??).
Maybe we're not quite yet doooooomed!

The biggest difference, and I’ve been looking at some data is the temp variations now. We get nice big lows with cold but then followed by SW air and warmth. Precip is around the same amounts as well, just more rain now. Anyway yes back to square one sadly but cold again from today
