Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Dolomites Weather/Snow Report (& useful links) 2024/25

I came over the Pordoi Pass this afternoon, lots of new snow but very wet and rain below 2000m. At one point it was -1.5 degrees and raining at about 1950m - not great. Mostly rain forecast for the valleys for tonight and tomorrow. Hopefully it’s going to clear up on Wednesday and get a bit colder. I’m only here Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so I’m considering not skiing tomorrow if it looks awful in the morning. Looking forward to my first sight of the Dolomites!!

A question regarding Hidden Valley. On a sunny morning, how tricky is the red? My other half who used to be a sound skier, over the years has become a complainer, overthinking hazards that aren’t really there.

It is mostly just a track down the valley with a couple of steeper bits :: the initial pitch from Laguzoi could be described as RED and also the section after Scotoni's

Have a look at this for an idea

we're having similar thoughts. However, even with pretty variable conditions over the last 2 days we've still managed to get some fun skiing in. Saying that, if you fancy a day out then Bressanone is a lovely place to while away a few hours, be warned many of their outdoor shops have sales on at the moment with some genuine discounts, my wife and I both gave into temptation whilst passing through Sad

by which I mean it's always bad weather around here and Bressanone is an industrial hell-hole which makes Middlesbrough look pretty, France is so much better.

@richb67, we had similar weather one year and went to Bolzano. The town centre is very pretty and there lots and lots of restaurants to choose from. I think is the perfect place for a day away from the slopes. Really hope the weather improves.

Looks like a disastrous night, lots of rain that is continuing this morning at town level.

Ice washboards tomorrow on piste. Lads will have their work cut out for them turning this around.

Seems to be at least 5cm at village level in Arabba. Perhaps the rain/snow level was between 1500 and 1600m? If so, hardly disastrous.

There's a fair drop in temp forecast for this afternoon and some snow forecast after the lifts close.

In the meantime I'm going to run to the cathedral of Santa Maria in Nivesplatz. Buy one of the plain, half-length candles and take back four kublecks in change. Light it in the sacristy, say a brief Rosary for lower temperatures and more snow, then go to Mendl’s and get a Courtesan au chocolat.

Webcams looking a bit grim this morning … it’s definitely soggy below 2,000 metres. I think the FL is due to drop later on when the remnants of the cold front that delivered the goods to the NW Alps overnight moves across. Luckily temps seem to be low enough for snowmaking later this week.

it obviously both snowed and rained in Corvara last night as there was fresh snow on the roads and hills but it's raining at the moment, was +3 deg C when we went to the laundrette yesterday evening. We are near the Col Alt gondola it's 9:30 and skiers are normally walking towards it at this time of day but I've now seen two groups ski down and then leave the slopes Sad

SR currently closed due to high winds, Lagazoui gondola closed presumably for the same reason.

It's forecast to get colder and snow later so still lots to be positive about, one bad day does not ruin a ski trip

Currently sat at Passo San Pellegrino (1900m) and it’s +1 degree. I’ve had rain, snow, hail and strong gusts of winds in the 30 mins I’ve been here. Lifts look like they are closing now at 11.20.

It looks like there has been a good 10-20cm of snow here, maybe more but it’s horrible wet snow and now it’s raining on it there are rivers of slush. Definitely the right idea to put off buying a lift pass till tomorrow!!!
I might drive over to Arabba next to see what’s like there.

In the valley it is raining constantly with periods of heavy rain. There were rivers of water running down the road on the way up the pass. Difficult to say what the snow level was/is as it changes every minute!!

Luckily my hotel is good and happy hour tonight is Bombardino hour!!

Different story on the Passo Pordoi, rain turned to snow at about 1700m not long out of Canazei and its snowing heavily at the top at 2245m. It’s -1.5 degrees and snow is still a bit wet - but it’s going to give a good covering. Apart from being difficult to see I made it up the pass ok without chains - probably about 10cm for the last 300m of altitude.

Best get back down before I get stuck up here!!

Had a quick trip to Arabba. Great skiing on Friday and Saturday...good snow and blue skies. Sunday difficult in places...did the SR anti clockwise and patchy visibility in places so stopped early although we'd done the circuit anyway. Second time in Arabba following my first visit about 23 years ago! The Dolomites are still as fantastic as ever (I've been to San Martino di Castrozza and Civetta in that time too, but they're not quite the same).

Did the Pass over to Selva and it’s good snow up there, even had a few minutes of sunshine. Now snowing hard again.

Just stopped on the way to Canazei at Lupo Bianco hotel at 1700m and it’s now snowing down to that level.

Should be some good days ahead as long as you stay up high. From what I’ve seen the heavy rain has spoilt a lot of the skiing down to the valleys but on the up side the snow higher up has been a welcome top up.

Thanks for the update ... looks like it's snowing down to Monte Pana at the moment. I'm sure a bit of snowmaking and good snow management should sort out some of the badly affected runs lower down.

Skied Alpe Cermis today. Staying in Predazzo for the last week of our amazing Dolomites month.
Was hammering it down with rain this morning, all the way up to the top of the gondola (2000m ish?), but snowing above that. Windy enough to shut one of the chairs for a bit.
Some great skiing on fresh snow though, super quiet as well. Making tracks down one of the reds that nobody had skied....
Bit of a slush fest on the black & red back to base below the gondola this afternoon, but a great day all in all & we're enjoying visiting ski areas we've not been before.
Temps due to drop & forecasting snow tonight & a sunny day tomorrow, so fingers crossed!

All that moisture in the piste May be a problem when the freeze comes. Will be interesting to see what they can do about that with the grooming ?

We didn't ski today as it was a pretty horrible with the rain but despite this there was still more snow in Corvara village late pm today than 24 hrs ago and since then it has been snowing on and off.

I've just had a quick look out the window and atm it's snowing pretty hard. Snow is sticking and the main road is currently white so so the next few days are looking good.

Tomorrow could be interesting so we'll stay local but hopefully Thursday we'll do a day in Drei Zimmen so any recommendation would be gratefully received.

The snow keeps falling. A few inches now on the roads.

First lift tomorrow, before nervous skiers make every red heaped carnage.

Did a day in Drei Zinnen (Tre Cime) from St Vigilio last year. We got into the area from Vierschach (via train).
Up the gondola and then drop down to take chair 16 up to top of Helm.
As I recall, there are some nice shortish runs off the top to get going, back to the same chair. The area at the top was a big wide expanse of white rollers. Runs 16a and 16b.
The runs down to chairs 14 and 15 less interesting.
Depending on how you feel, what it is like lower down and how crowded the gondola, the run 13 or 14+13b (13b black) back to bottom of gondola are nice long ones and may be better experienced when not too skied out. Then at end of day you can decide whether to repeat or use gondola to download.
Work your way over to Stiergarten, run 14 down to Signaue is nice.
I can't recall whether we ever did run 11 from Helm down to Sexten, we may have just got to gondola station to then go up to Stiergarten.
If you like a short but steep straight black then the 3b down to Bad Moos hut fits the bill.
I think there is a new run from the top of Rotwand this year as they have replaced old drag lift there, may be quite nice.

No recommendations on lunch stops, sorry, can't recall what we did.

You are welcome. In fact I may be back there on Friday or Saturday with a couple of other sHs on a sneaky two day excursion before joining the BB. We are staying in Olang and undecided which day we ski Kronplatz and which day Drei Zinnen.

So if you make any stunning discoveries, please let us know here!
