Cannot see a dedicated thread so thought I would ask here. We are staying in the Col da Lech area of Selva Val Gardena in a couple of weeks and looking to hire a ski locker. Is it better to have the locker at the Ciampinoi or Dantercepies lifts? We have never been to Selva before but it looks like you can ski from the Ciampinoi on a blue to the Dantercepies easily.

Much easier to take the Costabella Chair from just around the corner from the Ciampinoi bubble.

@o11y, isn't it the other way around -- ski blue run from the bottom of Dantercepies to Ciampinoi ?

From where you will be staying, getting to the Dantercepies could be awkard (a long walk/bus/)

Ciampinoi lockers would be better : still a good walk, but the bus will be more regular..

great day today, snow on piste fantastic. Some places obviously had a few inches last night which created some nice conditions. Even our last few runs on the SR route were good, a bit bumpy but nothing too severe and definitely more pleasant than normal.

Busy around Selva.

Will report on our trip to do the Garden Ronda in a separate post, just in case anyone is interested.

Just putting this here to guide you (or any one else) across Ortisei Smile

"..From the bottom of Seceda, an underground connection of escalators called "La Curta" leads straight into the heart of Ortisei - follow the tunnel all the way. As you exit, keep walking straight until you reach the little church, then turn right and walk along the beautiful pedestrian area of Ortisei. After a few minutes, you'll reach an intersection at the pink Hotel Cavallino Bianco - turn left. After crossing a short pedestrian bridge, you'll reach the Alpe di Siusi valley station. That's it - that's all the walking required to complete the Val Gardena Ronda!...."

So this video firmed up an idea I had last year. Obviously these guys are expert skiers based in Badia but can an intermediate skier based in Corvara ski over to Seiser Alm vis Seceda and back without any problems? I assumed it was achievable as we know the area.

TLDR - great days skiing and the answer is yes. In addition if you are smart and a bit lucky you could come back via Arabba and so complete the Sella Ronda and the Gardena Ronda in a day so should be able to do this from Arabba or Canazei. We didn't have time for the latter but had a great day so will try it in a few days. Our timings fell down because

1) we set off a bit late
2) we skied back on ourselves to Ortisei down Pilat and the gondola there is slooowwwww

we therefore hit the bus stop during the drivers lunch break.

Timings
9:15 arrived at Borest in Corvara - no queues,

10:05 top of Ciampac lift in Selva via the almost deserted La Ria black, first queues of the day with a bit of a scrum to get on Ciampac.

11:20 bottom of La Longia - the run was not too busy and in fantastic condition but the lifts and the Gardena Express funicular were all busy with significant queues, in the case of the funicular out into the car park. SasLong was lovely with an inch or two of fresh snow making it flattering skiing.

11:30 cappucinos and comfort break in Ortisei - Cafe Corso near the main square, very nice coffee, traditional looking place playing Green Day which is good with me Very Happy
11:50 bottom of Ortisei / Alp di Suisi gondola - it was quiet so we skied back down, piste great but the gondola was so slow it was painful and frankly not worth the delay, we probably lost almost an hour due to this decision as we missed the 1pm bus. We took the black diretissima section which is steep but was deserted and in excellent condition, perfect for me to practice on.

12:30 we reached the top of the gondola for the 2nd time and were ready to ski around Seiser Alm/Alpi di Suisi - it's a pretty area but the route you take is pretty dull skiing, mainly flatish blues, doing this route you miss the better pistes of the area but we didn't have time for diversions as I didn't really have the faintest idea how long this section would take

13:20 arrived at bus stop, it normally runs every 20 minutes but at lunch time less frequently so we had our packed lunch and waited for the next bus at 13:40. You can buy a ticket from a machine or pay on the bus, cash only whichever method you choose, Eur5 pp one way. the bus queue was massive presumably because of the lunch break and not everyone in it got on the bus which was standing room only. This also meant it was running late, tip if you're in a hurry put your skis in the cage on the back rather than in the under bus luggage store. At Monte Pana we were off and up the chairlift whilst some folks were still trying to find their gear.

Bus ride very entertaining with gasps from some passengers as the driver slid the bus along a snow covered track through the trees. I had an aisle seat so missed the excitement but Mrs B got a great view. Journey is maybe 15 minutes.

14:30 back in Selva stopped for hot chocolate and comfort break at Rifugio vallongia on red 5 at the bottom of the Piza Praseieis chairlift. Decided the SR was pushing it today so at

15:00 left the Rifugio up the aforementioned chairlift and dropped down black 3 to Selva - pretty bumpy with flat light so not the best skiing but much better condition that usual at this time of day, light was more of a problem than the piste, well that's my excuse as I hit a lump of firmer-than-expected snow and lost my ski, first fall of the trip Embarassed

16:00 arrived back in Corvara, took a quick trip up Boe and back down, again better than normal for a run on the SR at this time of day.
16:20 back in Corvara (again)
16:30 in bar with Aperol Spritz

Ski tracks says 33 miles skied, 55 miles in total, descent 7,900 m, 24 runs so not as far as I feared and totally achievable for a reasonable intermediate skier.

In the Brenta Dolomites, very busy in Folgarida and Marilleva this am. Lots of saucepans and ski snakes. Quite a lot of hardpack but no. 2, 29 and 30 very nice. Red 10 back to Madonna was very lumpy and bumpy early pm but Pradalago and patascoss runs were holing up much better, hardly any hardpack and much less lumpy. Might go over to Pinzolo tomorrow, depends on the weather. Discovered the Pub Dolomitic this evening. Very nice, huge gins and they had my favourite Monkey 47. Quite relaxed right now!

Hi,

Trying to book for a long weekend (4 ski days) in early February with a friend to go to Dolomites. I've been 3 times before, stayed in Alta Badia and Arraba.

Two questions:

1. We are driving from Venice (Marco Polo) wanted to see where to stay (e.g. Val Gardena, Val Di Fassa) somewhere where I have not stayed. We are in mostly for skiing but a few decent restaurants and good connectivity to slopes (ski bus) so we don't have to drive.

2. We will ski the sella ronda 2-3 days but one day would like to try another Dolomites resort nearby to try something new. A few years back (2018) I did Cortina D'Ampazzo on the way back and it was a fun day. I also skiied Cinque Torri which was inbetween Alta Badia and Cortina and was easy on the way back to Venice.

Thanks,

@pred02, Alleghe? Easy drive from Marco Polo. If you don't want to use the car while you're there, you can use buses to get to other places. A nice day out to a place you haven't mentioned would be to San Pellegrino. And Marmolada. We found, though, that the best way to ski on the Sella Ronda easily was to drive to/park at Pralongia.

To get onto the lift system in Alleghe itself, many of the hotels operate a free shuttle if you don't fancy the walk.

Thanks. We did the Marmolada glacier a few years ago when staying in Arabba. In fact, I got stuck on the top of it when I realised someone else took my skis. I spent 3 hours on top then took the other guys skiis. He returned them to the same shop I rented!

I would ideally want a town where we can either walk or take a short bus to the lift to have access into the Sella Ronda.

we skied around a bit today including clockwise SR from Corvara, leaving mid morning. No meaningful queues, the only exception being at the bottom of Pradel gondola in Val di Fassa but then only 5 minutes. Conditions generally really good but steeper sections of a couple of blacks were hardpacked by lunchtime and best left to very good skiers.

The gondola to the Marmalada runs from Arabba was closed when we skied by and the queue for the cable car was horrendous so we took the other gondola (Portados?) which had no queue. Red 5 from the top of that lift has a steep section and the cut around was closed so that was busy and bumpy with lots of people falling.

Agree with what's already post
Most places we have been ques have been less as at the same time last year other than the already mentioned cable car out of Arabba due to the other lift being out of action. Also its the first day the top of Marmolada has been clear.

What about Canezai? Selva is quite expensive and very few accommodations available at short notice. Previous years I stayed at San Cristiano (Alta Badia) and Arraba so thinking Val Di Fassa. It seems also 2.5 hours away from airport so save a half an hour on each end.

Really two guys we want quick access to the Sella Ronda and slopes, avoid driving to the slopes (bus or a short walk to lift) and a few decent restaurants in town in the evening to dine in.

Just checking I've understood the ski pass website correctly.
As long as I buy online at least 2 days ahead of the first ski day, I can get 5% off my 6 day pass. Unless the system believes I've already got a My Dolomiti card, in which case I'll only get 3% discount - I was in Canazei 2 years ago for a week, but I can't find a card from then. I don't know if I had one or not.
Having bought online, use the automated machines with my payment card, in any of the gondola/cablecar stations on the first morning to be issued with the new My Dolomiti card, loaded with the ski pass ready to use. I'll either be at Col Rodella, Belvedere or Ciampac, but I'm hoping I don't need to specify which at the time of buying the pass online ahead of travel.
Sorry if I'm being dim!

I stayed in Canazei last year -- The val di fassa is cheaper for a reason (being just off the Ronda) :
one lift out and one piste to get back : the lift is on the main road, but the piste stops a good walk from the centre (this make a stop at the Garni International Bar compulsory !!)
Plenty of bars and restaurants tho' :: Note - a lot of accommodation is a long way from the lift, so check before booking (there is a regular bus service if needed)

Skied Kronplatz today, pistes a bit teeth rattly for the first runs but staying in good condition all day. Only down side this morning were the crowds, lots of ski schools and the blues down towards the Gassl side were reminiscing of La Plagne during half term. We skied over lunch and moved around to Percha side and it was a lot quieter.

Week 9 in the Dolomites and virtually all the lifts are running but still some piste closures in a few places.

https://www.dolomitisuperski.com/en/Open-lifts

The shelter of the Dolomites means that so far the skiing has been virtually interrupted with all the lifts opening at 8:30 almost every day so far.

Some significant snow in the forecast next week which will change the skiing surface between the 26th and the 29th. Temperatures could be slightly marginal on the lower slopes.

Not sure if anyone answered you but you can collect your Dolomiti Superski pass at any of the automated machines, regardless of which part of the Superski area you are actually skiing, so no need to worry! And just because it wasn't fully clear to me initially, "2 days in advance" really means more than one full day, I.e. you can buy a pass on Friday evening for skiing from Sunday morning and you'll get the 5% discount.

A quick update...
Skied Passo San Pellegrino on Monday lovely grippy squeaky snow from the snowfall overnight.
Tuesday at Cortina in the sunshine. Cinque Torri all skiing well, fairly empty. Got straight on the cablecar for Hidden Valley and a table at Scotoni and a mixed grill arrived just as the sun came over the mountain at 1pm
Wednesday parked at Canazei hoping to do the Gardena Ronda, but up at PizSella I could see the cloud rolling across Ortisei/La Longia/Alpe di Siusi, so decided to divert on Orange Sellaronda. Flat light and chopped up pistes caused carnage at Arabba, but good to get one Ronda under the belt.
Today it had snowed again overnight, enough to freshen pistes. Drove up to Arabba and skied across to the white church at Santa Croce. The day was overcast, so managed to mostly stay below the 2000m cloud level. Snowing lightly on the way back into Arabba...so should be freshened up for tomorrow snowHead

For anyone out next week, snow conditions on piste are good to excellent. The overnight top ups and fairly cold temps this week have kept the snow nice. The busy pistes do get pushed around and scraped by pm. But with some fresh in the forecast, it's looking good heading into Feb.

We probably crossed paths as we stayed mainly in Alta Badia to keep under the cloud and popped over to Santa Croce later on. Conditions were variable so we intended to take the red down to La Villa but Mrs B was enjoying herself too much and headed off down the Gran Risa black. I stopped at the junction for a few minutes to get the lay of the land but decided to go down. it was the right decision as it the nicest we’ve ever skied it, both because the conditions were good, sooo grippy! and also the complete lack of wannabe racers, I counted 5 people on it. I think the speed merchants were either in their hotels or still having lunch!

Arriving on Feb 1st to Arabba for my first trip in the winter with my 81 yr old dad and some of this ski buddies. I have skied a lot (for a Californian) in the Alps and typically bring my airbag, beacon, shovel, probe and either hook up with a local or hire a guide for a day or two.

Is there enough snow to make any of the off-piste routes skiable and fun in the Dolomites at the moment? Primarily thinking things off Marmolada or Passo Pordoi? Anyone seeing people skiing off-piste? From the measurements doesn't seem like enough snow, but not familiar with Dolomites so wanted to check here. To clarify, this would just be me, not my dad. I think I might go a bit crazy staring at all the Couloir's and surrounding terrain and not able to take advantage.

Can one rent something other than carving skis if I do go off-piste for a day or two or do I need to bring skis? I know in the Arlberg, Cham, etc. one can rent, but know it's different here. Thanks all!

Hence the reason I have never been skiing there wink They also statistically don't get much snow which is another reason I have never skied there. (Went hiking from rifugio to rifugio and took the kids on Via Ferrata so love the region). I'm not the organizer of the trip, just tagging along, because figure I better take advantage of skiing w/ >80yr old dad while I can! He was ripping last weekend in the Sierra's!

That said, I have definitely read reports of some great off-piste couloir's and routes. The top up next week doesn't do much good if there is no natural base, which I guess is what I'm trying to suss out. Thanks all, keep the info coming, much appreciated!
