Thanks very much for the very helpful responses all - much appreciated. Just looked at SicilyByCar and we can have a Cupra SportsTourer (manual … I can live with this) with winter tyres for €370 for 8 days over February HT. I also like @8611’s suggestion … very sensible. Thanks and enjoy your trips if you have any planned.

More good news - Lagazuoi showing as open on the app. I will be skiing it first thing this day week. Leave some powder for me anyone on it over next few days.

@luigi, or any of the other Dolomite experts, any recommendations for a nice lunch in the following? :-
- Civetta / Zoldo area
- Tofana (might just go to Averau in Cinque Torre on the way back up to Lagazuoi, staying the previous night in Scoiattioli so won't lunch there)
- On the Sella Ronda anti clockwise from the bottom of Hidden Valley.
I had a superb meal in a nice hotel on a pass off skiers left in the Passo Sella, a bit off piste to get to it, but it was a kind of place you'd want a long slow lunch so maybe somewhere closer to Arabba as we need to make it to Malga Ciapela to get back to Alleghe?

Da Bepi off the top of the Zoldo gondola is an experience, the owner is a bit of an extrovert. Cheap and cheerful burgers with a twist plus other staples
Chalet S'un Paradis just around the corner for a classier vibe.
Above Alleghe, Col dei Baldi is the classy one. Pizzas at Fontanabuona and cheap eats at the kiosk at Baita Scoiattolo
At Cortina, some can be pricey. Scoiattoli & Averau are great. In Tofana, Baita Resch near the Skyline had a good rep.
Sella Ronda, between Canazei & Arabba, the Fredarola or the Fodom might suit you.
Always hard to give recommendations as people like different things, a quick bite or lazy lunch, plus places change hands or change menus, particularly after Covid.
It's usually safe to say stop when you're hungry if the place is giving you a good vibe. There are very few places serving lousy food, they wouldn't survive long in Italy
Places that are busy are a good sign, but then you might have to wait a long time for food.

Local Veneto Dolomites (Arabba, Civetta, Cortina) forecast is now going for 15-35cm above 1400/1500m mainly overnight into tomorrow morning, rain-snow limit down to 900-1200m, maybe lower during more intense phases.

@toyah807, definitely wasn’t raining today, it was like frozen drizzle. The snow is coming tonight and into tomorrow. And Thursday looks like it might be interesting too.
The pistes are in great condition anyhow, we’ve had a great day today getting our ski legs back in Alta Badia. Although the wind was a tad freezing on the chairlifts!

Both meteo italia and ecmwf are forecasting small top ups of snow on Tuesday and Thursday, 8cm at Corvara village level. Everything helps. But more importantly cold day and night for the forseeable future, no rain.

The Dolomites might not receive as much snow as the NW Alps when Atlantic storms roll-in BUT (crucially) their location south of the main Alpine ridge also ensures that the moist airmass due to hit the French resorts later this week will never make it that far … this is really good news.

Here in San Cassiano it’s a bit disappointing at village level but really good higher up - perhaps 20cm so far?? And it’s still snowing..

I notice there was no fresh snow in Alleghe village (1000m) last night, but Ortisei at 1200m has new snow on the rooftops, so rain-snow limit was probably around 1100m. Thankfully, most of the skiing in the Dolomites is above 1500m.
Thursday's snow has now been dialled back on Bergfex forecasts. Temps look to remain cool with snowline around 1100-1200m. Could be a bit windy at altitude if you catch the westerly.
As @franga says it's a good thing as somewhere like Morzine in French Alps is looking at 60-70mm of rain right up to mid-mountain level over the next few days!

looking at the DolomitiSuperSki Webcams its a whiteout in most places - mix of cloud, snow and fog, across most of the Cams. Not sure I'd relish skiing in that - usually blame my goggles for being sh1te, of course they're not, its my head cant cope with it!!

Not sure what you're looking at, it's forecast to be clear & sunny, but NW flow, so an hour or two above freezing at midday isn't going to melt all the snow...great skiing weather if anyone's going out at the weekend!!
