Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@luigi, @stellaps, @surferrosa, thank you for the replies. I have emailed the customer care @ Dolomite ski to see if they could tell me if its beneficial for me to have the Superski Family 40 day pass, as there is hardly anything in the cost difference compared to the 13 days pass. Will see what them come back with......but again, thank you. Madeye-Smiley

From what you were quoting for your dates, the 40 day Family pass is a €9 saving compared to the advance online price for 3x13 days, but over €100 compared to walk-up.

With the Family pass, the benefit is you can do it in resort once you know you have no travel/weather/illness issues and are pretty certain you will be skiing for the next 13 days.

As it's slightly cheaper anyway, I think it would be worth waiting for that, as long as you can produce all the documents they need to see. But it will be interesting to hear what DS say...you never know, there might be a price for 39 ski days which might knock off another €46?? Cool

does the bus go as far as Carezza in the other direction, for a wee change?

yes, haven't used it but coincidentally checked this out the other day, you need to change to line 7 at Pozza, timetable from Pozza

https://www.skibusvaldifassa.it/en/lines/7

complicated map but shows you where the lines connect
https://www.skibusvaldifassa.it/en/lines

I've used the bus from Canazei down to Pera for the chair into the tiny Catinaccio area. It seemed to work well when I did it.

I've also skied Carezza, but drove up there as I had a car. It's a nice area, enough for a day if you ski from end to end, usually quiet midweek, impressive backdrop of the Rosengarten peaks. Laurin's Lounge has some amazing views if you want a splurge...or just have a coffee:

https://laurinslounge.it/en/

Whether is worth the two stage bus journey from Campitello or not, possibly an hour each way with the change, I don't know, but if you wanted a change of scenery, it's worth a go.

The other worthwhile areas further down Val di Fassa are Passo San Pellegrino, Latemar and Alpe Lusia in size order. I've skied them all and they each have merits. Looks like they are reachable by bus, Latemar may be direct from Campitello if you get the right bus, but again whether they're worth the journeys or not, you'll have to decide.

BTW the map on the full timetable PDF looks a bit different to the one linked above...

https://www.skibusvaldifassa.it/downloads/orari_skibus_fassa_2024.pdf

This is a great help. I think I'm getting the hang of the bus timetable and map. Thanks so much.

Kronplatz is now completely open.
Still 34 runs out of 130 not yet open up at the Alta Badia but 48 out of the 53 lifts are running today so not too bad. Looks a bit windy the next couple of days but importantly they have missed the rain which should mean they will also avoid the ice later on.

'It depends on the age of family members, if you are 3 adults , yes it is more convenient Superski Family 40 days . 13 days Dolomiti Superski costs 660.00 euro per adult .40 days Superski Family 1.872.00 . In this case you need the proof of family status .'

Not sure of the composition of the family, but if you'd be buying 3 adult (born before 2007) passes and you can produce the documents they need to prove the family connection, it's definitely worth going for the Family pass.

We are here for Christmas week - it is indeed feeling rather quiet. We are based in Corvara and have barely seen any queues, which is a pleasant surprise. Slopes are in great condition all day long due to low temps. Strong winds were forecast so I was fearing the worst (having been at Cervinia last winter), but that didn't seem to affect the lifts much, if at all. Happy days!

The other good news is that the southern Alps avoided all the rain and humid air last week. That should mean the pistes are not saturated and are therefore less likely to become hard packed in the mild daytime temperatures later this week.

Merry Christmas! The skiing conditions look perfect for at least the next week.
Big anticyclone, wall to wall sunshine, dry air and cool nights Cool
Its week four and all lifts and all pistes are now open across Kronplatz and Val Gardena. The snow making phase looks to be finished except for the snow Parks.
Still a few runs closed in the Alta Badia and the Marmolada is not open yet.
Across the whole Superski area there are now 394 lifts running and a total of 1,200kms of open piste Cool

Question....staying Corvara and fancy a days skiing in Cortina... have transport so thinking of driving over, it looks to be around a 50min drive, wheres best place to park for easiest ski lift access ?? Thanks in advanced Maybe answering my own question, drive to Baita Bai de Dones which is top of the Cortina Skyliner , with parking, and then take the lift down in the Cortina ski system from there ?

@Peter S, how come marmalada still not open?

@Cheapski, that would be great! Still in uncertain zone I assume. From looking at the San pellegrino webcams anyway looks like a top up would be good for aesthetics alone and also building off piste.

You could do, would give you the chance to do some runs at Cinque Torri first...or drive a bit further to the other end of the Skyline to the car park at Son dei Prade to get straight into the Tofana sector... https://maps.app.goo.gl/gkbtMQAT7mX6vJR48

You could also ski over from Corvara, you need the taxi-bus from Armentarola up to Lagazuoi, but you can do the Hidden Valley on the way back. The Skyline takes about 15min each way.

But for a full day's exploring, best to drive if you can. Choose a nice day so when you're up at Ra Valles you can see the views Cool

Back to the weather...looking dry and settled through the Holiday period...a few flakes appearing in the Bergfex/ECM forecast for the first days of 2025...

The wePowder guys are looking to see what the New Year might bring, a chance of a plunge of polar air and unsettled weather...lets hope some of it makes it's way to the Dolomites...

Latest GFS runs also indicate Polar air reaching N Italy on Jan 2nd, so fingers crossed! snowHead

Not hearing any mention of hard packed pistes which suggests that the dry artificial snow is holding up. If the pistes remain grippy in the heavy traffic over New Year then we will know that the shelter from the westerly rain and the saturated air has protected the quality of the skiing surface.

Latest wepowder breaks down the various models, only one of them offers anything for the Southern Alps

Dunno about you but I'm backing UKMO!

UKMO: Similar timing and pressure distribution as GFS. UKMO also shows a Genoa low, with snow chances for the southern Alps.

After reading the "Missed Cervinia link and stuck in Zermatt" thread I was wondering if anyone has got stuck around the Dolomites in the wrong village at the end of a day?
Closest we have been was in Selva when the high lifts in both directions stopped for a bit due to wind.
We were staying in Arabba
It was about lunch time so we went for some nosh and by the time we were fed one direction was open again so no major panic.
If the wind caution messages are on we tend to stay in Arabba and Alta Badia areas.

We did a Sella Ronda trip in very warm sticky conditions a few years ago, starting from San Cassiano. We went to Arabba then Selva, did La Longia (which took I ages as it was so sticky), then continued to Corvara but that was as far as we got. We might have had time to ski back but rather than risk getting stuck somewhere when the lifts closed, we got a taxi back to San Cass. Far less of a problem than getting stuck in Zermatt Toofy Grin

That's all good when you have the time and are sure of the route Puzzled
There are bits in Alta Badia if you were at them when the lifts stopped you would have a long hike.
We have went to the Dolomites off and on for years and still end up where we didn't plan.
