Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Dolomites Weather/Snow Report (& useful links) 2024/25

Day one report from Corvara.

Good:
- Hotel breakfast
- Platti della sciatori in the Brancia
- Enrosadira sul Sassongher late afternoon
- Weather is fine. Snow is cold and white, and can be skied on

Bad:
- CostCentre#3 underwent involuntary inversion after misjudging a mid-sized ramp in a park, and ploughed a 5m long blood-stained furrow in the yard-sale that followed re-entry. The blood on the down-ramp was still clearly visible (pour encourager les autres) when we passed by about two hours later.
- CostCentre#1 took him to the Farmacia to get clean-up stuff, and spotted the super-exclusive cashmere retailer “on the way”

Question:
- Where in Corvara can I buy a replacement (ho hum…) pair of goggles for less than €300?

@IanTr, triple ouch! Shocked

Sounds like this trip is already costing more than you bargained for! Can you ditch the CostCentres or are they permanently attached?? Laughing

Seriously though, hope he's OK! I guess he's got park cred now with that huge scar! Confused

+1 hope he’s ok

There are a couple of not-too-ridiculouly priced places near the Posta Zirma hotel, we’ve used Sport Alfredo. Alternatively last year LaVilla had a couple of “typical ski resort” priced places near the Conad? Supermarket. Walking distance from the bottom of the piste/lifts.

Warmer than average but predominantly dry seems to be the outlook through Christmas. Some snow and wind however indicated for Friday.

Kronplatz has 112 out of 121kms open.

Sella Ronda has 375kms open out of a total of 466km. 176 lifts are running out of 206. The area therefore looks to be approximately 80% open at the moment.

Day two report.

Good:
- Decent piste-skiing conditions, “skier packed powder” as they like to say in the US
- V few Brits, generally high/courteous standard of skiing everywhere
- V dry and somewhat milder than yesterday, the afternoon sun softened the runs back into town
- Post-lunch Grappa was pleasingly almond-y

Bad:
- Cutting/cold wind on the higher lifts at times
- A few places not open, I guess normal for an off-season Monday

We really need to talk more about the grappa in this thread

My personal favourite was the pine needle one, this was in Refugio Viza I think it was called.

Would be interested in more recommendations.

snowHeads are a friendly bunch.
Travelling back to Sella Ronda area on Feb 1st for 1 week, my 2nd visit there after two years ago. Then, I was with multi-visit friends who knew their way around, but this time I'm with one buddy who's never skied there. I struggled last time to get my head around the maps, as it's so spread out, but it didn't matter, I just followed my friends!
Staying in Campitello, I'm happy that I can get the bus to the uplift to Col Rodella, or from Canazei to Belvedere, or from Alba to Belvedere or to Ciampac, and ski down to Pozza. From Belvedere, I think I'm capable of following green or orange signs round the circuit. But does the bus go as far as Carezza in the other direction, for a wee change?
I think the tour operator might run a trip to Hidden Valley, which I'd happily do again. I'm not sure if there's anywhere else I should aim to get to by bus, for another away day.
Thanks for any advice.

Fairly certain the ski bus doesn't - but you might get there by changing routes....

Looks like there's some big snow arriving before Xmas for some parts of the Alps...

https://wepowder.com/en/weblog/2024/12/17/lots-of-snow-just-before-christmas

Trouble is the general flow is from the NW, so just some light amounts predicted for the Dolomites for Thursday night and Sunday onward...should freshen things up a bit again though... snowHead

Importantly it looks like the Dolomites will be sheltered from the initial rain. It looks to remain cooler and a lot drier which is usually much better for the skiing. strong wind may be an issue for some runs next week though ie. Maserai Laughing

Good point, quite mild today, but as the bad weather comes in Thursday night, the rain-snow limit sits around 1000-1200m in Dolomites, so the popular resorts shouldn't see rain...

https://www2.arpa.veneto.it/meteo/it/html/meteo_dolomiti.php

Google translated forecast for Thursday night...

By midnight, 2-5 mm is expected in the Dolomites and 5-10 mm in the Prealps, with the same number of cm of snow at 1500 m, less below this altitude for wet snow and rain contribution, slightly more at 2000 m for softer snow.

I've used the bus from Canazei down to Pera for the chair into the tiny Catinaccio area. It seemed to work well when I did it.

I've also skied Carezza, but drove up there as I had a car. It's a nice area, enough for a day if you ski from end to end, usually quiet midweek, impressive backdrop of the Rosengarten peaks. Laurin's Lounge has some amazing views if you want a splurge...or just have a coffee:

https://laurinslounge.it/en/

Whether is worth the two stage bus journey from Campitello or not, possibly an hour each way with the change, I don't know, but if you wanted a change of scenery, it's worth a go.

The other worthwhile areas further down Val di Fassa are Passo San Pellegrino, Latemar and Alpe Lusia in size order. I've skied them all and they each have merits. Looks like they are reachable by bus, Latemar may be direct from Campitello if you get the right bus, but again whether they're worth the journeys or not, you'll have to decide.

BTW the map on the full timetable PDF looks a bit different to the one linked above...

We are a family of 3 lucky enough to spend 13 days visiting the Dolomites.
We have always purchased the ski passes whilst in resort, but just looking at the online shop and wondering if it is worth purchasing online before getting there.?
Dolomiti superski shop is stating the following for 3 of us for 13 days in January : Euro 1881,00 rather than 1980,00
Just wondering if the 1980 price is in resort, or do they offer the 1881 price at the Ticket shop which will be in La Villa?
What would snowheads recommend?

You will get a QR code that you take to a ticket machine which issues the pass without having to go to the shop.
No idea where the ticket machine is in La Villa but will be near the lifts somewhere.

I believe you have to buy it at least 2 days in advance to get the 5% discount. However the ski passes are non- refundable so I would hold off getting it too early. Just in case something happened…

The higher price is if you roll up to the ticket office on the day, the lower price with 5% discount is for advance online purchase and lets you obtain passes from a ticket machine rather than queuing up.

As @surferrosa says, it would be wise to wait until the week before you go before pulling the trigger. You need to purchase two days in advance, so I think you can still purchase with discount on a Friday for a pass starting on the Sunday. Obviously, there's still an outside chance even then of something getting in the way of using them...weather, travel delays, illness, etc...so you have to make your decision about that risk vs the €99 saving. snowHead

Good point! The criteria are 3+ family members and 10+ days of skiing...

https://www.dolomitisuperski.com/en/Ski-pass/Superski-Family

I have a Dolomiti Superski account, but looks like you need a MyDolomiti card to buy it online.

I'm sure they could set it up at a lift pass office in resort if you have the right documentation.

Anyone know what the pricing is on these? I can't find a way to access it without having a family registered on a card.

Hopefully it would offer a saving over the straight 13 day low season passes, but as it's flexible and can be used by any registered family member any day over the season, maybe not?? Puzzled

But if it ends up with the adults skiing for close to junior price, maybe it would??

Might be worth sending an email or trying the online assistant with your family composition (relationship, dates of birth) and skiing dates to see what they come back with on this...

Well done! I couldn't find that! Laughing

So too late for the earlybird prices, but it looks like it's still slightly cheaper to buy 40 days than what @Simon94 was quoting for 3 x 13day passes (I assume they must overlap into high season at the start of Jan) with online discount...and can be done in resort once you know you're definitely skiing!
