I linked two gravel car parks, one at Son dei Prade near the Cortina Skyline and the other at the Socrepes chair.
Do you mean the tarmac paid one next to the Olympic Ice Stadium at the bottom of the main Freccia nel Cielo gondola?? https://maps.app.goo.gl/CDZLbvrhcjrwbnCk9 |
The one we've twice struggled to get into is the second of your link at the bottom of Socrepes. It will have been late Jan and we've ended up squeezing onto the end of a row on the smaller section on the opposite side of the road. We prefer that parking as there are toilets!

I know the majority of you prefer DIY hols but just in case you have not booked yet, there are some amazing bargains with Crystal for Pinzolo and Cavalese. I have skied Madonna but it was pre Pinzolo express not sure what Pinzolo is like, never heard of the second resort but the ski map looks very interesting.

The cheapest one (Hotel Bepy) is in village of Giustino, south of Pinzolo, so one step removed from the one-step-removed skiing, but if you don't mind getting on a bus morning and afternoon, it might suit.
For comparison, I'm doing a week DIY in Alleghe in Jan right next to lift for £375pp (flight inc 20kg bag, 5 in a 3 bedroom SC apartment and we are hiring 2 cars with xs insurance for transfers). Hope to shave another £20pp off the car hire, by rebooking nearer the date. And that is quite a bit more than I paid last year when my son and I went on our own to a B&B in Falcade, because this year we needed to book early and have somewhere bigger to accommodate our friends.
The packages can work out well for those who don't want to drive as the TO lays on a coach, though you can wait for hours on a coach at the airport if some guests are on another flight that's been delayed. Or another time they dumped us at a hub in Moutiers for an hour or so until the minibus came to take us up to La Rosiere. Or another time, they combined us with passengers from Manchester, so we actually flew to Manchester before flying back to Gatwick! Another time they made sure we were all airside before the 4 hour flight delay was announced. You should have seen the TO manager's face when two of us talked the Italian Border Police into letting us go back and ask him what he was playing at!! They have to get you there and back, but you are always at the whims of their commercial decisions

@luigi, hello Luigi, I don’t dispute that is better doing it DIY, just wanted to highlight the discounts. The hotel you mentioned is at £385 for the 11.01 which when I am going skiing , can be bothered to check other dates
I still think it is a really good value, but without a doubt you have bagged a great deal for Alleghe

Unfortunately the warmer air this week and rising humidity seems to have halted most of the snow making. The window may open again on Friday when clearer cooler air looks to arrive?
Kronplatz was pisting out their top runs yesterday which perhaps suggests they may be ready to go by Saturday. They certainly made good use of the favourable conditions last week. They are reporting 30cms on their top runs and 20cms on the lower runs which should be just about enough.
The outlook is for slightly cooler, stable and predominantly dry weather.

You’re not a one man campaign. I’ve been carefully diverting my cycling/skiing/climbing friends attention away from the Dolomites for years. For the skiers I find a combination of “no off-piste, low altitude and many Germans” works well. I tell them we only go there several times a season because of my wife’s family. For the cyclists I draw attention to the “crowds, crazy Italian drivers and high winds”. For the climbers I just tell them it’s a good area for the overweight German Hausfrau.
Pleased to report it’s been going well. Internet has made it harder though, as the years have gone by…

We actually liked the pub in the yellow building so much last year that we’re staying nearer to it in March. After getting down the track the other side of the road you need a good Negroni! And so sorry for all those campaigning, I keep telling everyone how amazing the Dolomites is after my first visit last year, but in mitigation they are either non-skiers or wedded to France.

@dunc999, Ahh the Stella -- sadly out of my price range now (since the upgrade) :: First time I stayed there it was after dark ; woken the first morning by the 'slapping' of skis on carpets - looked out the window and we were overlooking the Costbella chair !! :: came in handy though, as we could check the queue in the morning..........
In my opinion, it is the best hotel to be based at -- Lift a few metres away and, in the image above you see the gates were you can finish your day ; Hotel is 100 metres to the left
