I'm returning to Val di Fassa for the second time for a week on 1st February. My ski buddy has pointed out that our tour operator (Crystal) will give a better snow guarantee allowing us to change holiday within the 4 days ahead of travel, if fewer than 50% of slopes are open, for £25pp. I replied I thought there was close to zero chance of that, due to the extensive snow making. But am I being daft over £25?

@barkerdm19, you are correct - the chances of that happening (esp. in Feb) are close to zero due to the snowmaking. It's not worth the extra money!

On another subject -- Despite visiting the Dolomites many times, I have only skied the Siusi area once...! (I just remember it being very flat ?)
I intend revisiting in 2025 -- Any suggestion/recommendation for pistes to try ??

It's loved by many but not by me. Once was enough, too flat, lifts too slow. The reds and black at Monte Pana however.....sooperb.

Thanks for the replies -- I might just get the bus from Monte Pana (as recommended by @Alastair Pink ) , do a bit at Suisi and then coming home via the new
run down to Ortisei....

Local forecasts for Venetian Dolomites continue to confirm the possibility of natural snowfall between now and the weekend:
https://www2.arpa.veneto.it/meteo/it/html/meteo_dolomiti.php
A dusting on Wednesday, 1-5cm expected down to 1000m. The snow is expected to be heaviest Thursday afternoon through Friday morning with 5-15cm forecast down to valley bottoms and up to 20cm possible above 1500m.
That would be a welcome sight at the start of the season to complement the snowmaking taking place

Currently Minus 13c on Kronplatz. -7c at 1400m and only 50% humidity. Clear dry air and light winds. Great conditions for making snow.
They are now entering a potential 3 day window for snow production which could get the top third of the ski area near to its target seasonal depth by next week.
It’s Warmer lower down but they look to be joining up the dots !
https://www.bergfex.com/kronplatz/webcams/c21266/
ECM shows a warm up from Monday but not too significantly. The outlook is currently dry into December which would be good for the skiing (and snow making) if they open on time a week on Saturday.

I was with a group who did Seiser Alm from Arabba via the Magical Mystery bus tour which was lovely. We only just made it to Monte Pana for the (IIRC) 10.30am bus
I really didn’t like the switchback road down to Ortisei, though. Is there now an alternative?

We’re staying in Corvara for our pre-Christmas (Dec 14th) trip this year, a change from our usual spot in Selva. Two questions for SH resident experts if I may…
1. Will the Hidden Valley be open then? I think I’ve skied it before Christmas previously
2. What’s the best way to get from Corvara to Cortina? Can we get there and back on skis, or will we need to use a bus at some point? Or will it be better/easier to drive over.
Thank you in advance!

I can't answer 1.
2. You can't do it on skis only. You can ski over to Amentarola then taxi to Cinque Torri, ski a piste then the long gondola to Cortina. I did it from Selva last year, skied Tofana side.
If you have a car, I'd say it's worth an earlyish start and drive over to make the most of a day at Cortina.

We are staying in Ortisei in February - we’ll have a car. Is it worth driving to Cortina 1 day? I quite fancy it just to say we’ve been to such an iconic town - not sure whether Mrs F will bite though.

21st again… Oh well. We have a hire car, I’ll look forward to the drive. I last went that direction on my bicycle in the Maratone a few years ago. If the weather/road situation is good we can stay for dinner in Cortina after skiing. Plan coming together here…

@IanTr, We're in Selva from the 13th onwards.
Personally, If the Skyline isn't running, I wouldn't bother with Cortina. Just my opinion, but It's a lot of travelling for minimal reward. We've popped over for the last couple of years, but probably won't bother again for a while.

FWIW we're pretty much of the same opinion as Mollerski. For the last 4? seasons we've stayed in Alta Badia and always done a day or two driving over to Cortina, we prefer to drive as skiing is a bit of a faff. It's a nice area but at the end of each day we've never wanted to rush back as it doesn't seem to offer us anything different to the other areas around the SR and it is a bit of a pain having to drive. The Tofana area has a nice run from the top where the Worldcup run comes down and one day I'll have the bottle to do the full thing. (One picturesque section always looks icy so I always take the easier red...) but it's a strangely disconnected ski area. It is however the largest ski town in the area and is quite upmarket so that attracts a lot of people.
So if someone has skied lots of the other local areas then why not give it a go but if for example it was your first week in the SR area I personally wouldn't rush over there just for the skiing. But if it's on your bucket list then set off early and enjoy, fyi the car parks can get full especially the large one at Tofana which I assume is the one Luigi has linked to.

I linked two gravel car parks, one at Son dei Prade near the Cortina Skyline and the other at the Socrepes chair.
Do you mean the tarmac paid one next to the Olympic Ice Stadium at the bottom of the main Freccia nel Cielo gondola?? https://maps.app.goo.gl/CDZLbvrhcjrwbnCk9

The indication is that the Alta Badians are nearly halfway towards their target coverage for opening day on the 5th December. So far they have made 29% of their seasonal coverage.
https://snowreport.skicarosello.it/skicarosello/?lang=en
Meanwhile Kronplatz looks to be on course for opening on Saturday. They will probably have about 30kms of runs and perhaps 14 lifts open from next weekend.
GEFS is suggesting that the freezing level may be about 1500m into December. The Upper air mass is going to cool slightly. The weather looks generally stable with not a lot of precipitation on the horizon at the moment. This is probably good news for continued progress with the snow making.
Currently -3.6c at 1465m 68% humidity and light wind.
Making snow on Sunday night down to 900m at the bottom of the 7km Reid piste.
