Hi,
Im wanting to go boarding mid march 2007. The two resorts I like the look of are Soll and Sauze d'oulx. This will only be my second boarding holiday, I went to Passo Tonale last season and learnt how to board.
From what I hear snow can be very risky in both these resorts in March? I really dont want to spend all my money and get no snow 
Anybody been to any of these resorts in mid march?
Which would be better? Or can anybody recommend a resort for mid march with a good snow record?
Any help will be good!

I'm not a boarder but a friend learnt to board in Soll and didn't have any problems.
As for snow, who can say..? although the pattern of the winters has pointed to better later conditions recently.
If you want snowsure or a better chance then you might want to go higher.
Hopefully one or two boarders will be along soon and give their opinions of the terrain AND lifts suitable for boards.
Off the top of my head, I'd say Alpe D'huez but as I've said I don't see these resorts as a boarder might

If you are feeling flush, go for Val d'Isere. Almost always good snow at that time, lively nightlife, hardly any drag lifts. The area is not brilliant for beginners but as a 2nd weeker you should be okay. Loads of  s slag off "val despair" as a kind of reverse snobbery but I think it's good.
If money is tight, Livigno in Italy is a good bet for snow and nightlife. Can't comment on Soll or Sauze as I've not been.

loffers, Sorry not been in March but was there in January lots of snow and lots of boarders. Did have an afternoon trying to fall off a board and managed it quite well (falling off that is).

loffers, I've been to Soll twice in early March and one year there was plenty of snow and the second trip we arrived to green fields lower down but it dumped it down on the first night and we were in powder heaven for about 3 days. Boarder friends told me that they preferred Scheffau as the runs were wider. But Soll is where the main apres is so it's best to base yourself there.
It is a large ski area and I'm sure that somewhere in the ski welt you will find enough snow for a week's boarding if the conditions are a bit variable. If you go early March then snow cover shouldn't be a problem.
The advantage of Soll is that it offers great value for money.

Been to Soll and its great. Was my first week boarding and there were some good reds/blues to learn on - but didn't really travel much around Skiwelt as we were only beginning and needed to be back for lessons at lunchtime. I wouldn't book for March even though thats when I went - as its not the best for snow (although has had a couple of good years). I'd say its good to go last minute if you know its got a good snow covering.
Never been to Sauze.

Been to Soll and Zell am See in mid march. Both had great snow. Can't comment on Sauze though, but reports ain't that good.

So to sum up soll should be ok early march,
does anyone know of a snow sure resort that doesn't brake the bank?
Been to passo tonale so I want to try somewhere different, with decent night life

loffers, I loved Soll - you can ski into lots of other villages (Ellmau, Going etc.)
The apres ski is very good as is the little Italian restaurant in the village

Another vote for Soll here and I've been to both Soll (3 times) and Sauze (once). I didn't go in March and I don't snowboard so it's not directly relevant but we (a mixed group of beginners and more experienced skiers) preferred Soll for a variety of reasons.

It wasn't far from the Eggerwirt hotel where we stayed. It must have been the other one as it wasn't that posh, but gtear atmosphere and lovely grub

johnboy, I don't think we've had a bad meal anywhere in Soll, and that includes my sister who's an even more fussy eater than me. The whole atmosphere of the place just seems to suit our group, we'll certainly be going back for a 4th time.
