Great day out there today, blue skies and a light top up of snow has made conditions very nice on pusher and and acceptable/nice in places off piste.
@Dave of the Marmottes, have done lac de Lou from La masse this morning. Snow variable but very skiable and coverage good. No evidence of any shrubbery. Boismint route looks good too.

@Gämsbock, that's good to hear, I'm heading over there at the weekend. I think there's meant to be light snow on and off most of the week.
I may have to rethink the ski choice! Did you need to tour to get to decent snow?

@Mosha Marc, depends what you mean by decent. We've not toured today and have had a mix of soft snow on a firm piste-like base, some transformed spring like snow, chalky north facing stuff. With a few disco biscuits in between. We've been pleasantly surprised. Should be better by the end of the week too. Snow line is a bit high but coverage is good above it.

Great conditions to be had off piste in the 3V this week with a little bit of effort here and there - surprisingly good snow considering the dry & warm spell running up to last weekend...!
On the pistes lower slopes down into Meribel are definitely getting a bit the worse for wear, but everything above mid-mountain is in good shape

Horrendous conditions this afternoon in Val Thorens. Thick fog. Probably the worst visibility I've skied in in years. Difficult to even see the piste markers in the murk .

Agree. Worst fog and conditions ever but……this morning the sun has come out so should be superb day.

What a day in Courchevel.
Perfect weather and some awesome snow.
Pistes in superb condition above 2000m, and lower in places. Chapelet was probably the pick.
Downloaded in the Gongola to Le Praz as it's was very warm and the old joints tired.
F llo over twice on Roc Mugnier while stood at the side of the piste. Hadn't even had a drink. Weird.

What a great day. Across to Moriond where there was good snow, back via the top of La Tania, again very good skiing then dropped into Meribel, which was dreadful (slush and crowds, best to take the lift down to Meribel centre). Meribel redeeemed itself with a great run down to Cherferie from the top of Olympic, then the best run of the day, which was the red at the top of Jerusalem. This was in great condition lacking moguls and ice and was a real pleasure to ski.

That's us at the end of an 4 days of skiing trip..4 women, 2 blokes all the wrong side of 60, many with failing bits.
We stayed in Le Praz and probably the best place we have stayed in the 3v.
Yes it's been hot, but we've had some awesome snow on the pirates and with a bit of care and planning you could have a great day.
Snow is needed, and is coming, but honestly, we've had an absolute blast.
For people of our age and fitness, the 3v has to be the best place in the world.

How unusual is it to get such good conditions in late March, almost 2’ of snow forecast for the rest of the month with below freezing temps. Just the luck of the draw for late March? Can range from summer like conditions to best of year conditons?

In the alps precipitation is usually greater in spring than in the winter. However the freezing level is higher so you need a high altitude resort, e.g. VT or Tignes/VdI so get good snow and crucially have an appropriate ambient temperature to maintain that snow.

I don’t think the above is true, weather-and-climate dot com for Val Thorens lists December at the wettest month of the year with a gradual monthly drop off until the summer.

Yes, I sheepishly admit I was wrong, it often seems like there is more snow in spring - at least to me!

Coming out to Meribel-Mottaret with a friend in a couple weeks. Know a lot can and will change but just wondering what snow/weather have been like and what forecasts people have seen for the next week or so? Praying for more snow and temps to stay cool.

I'm just back after 2 weeks in Les Menuires - First week was really good with a fresh ~10-20cm drop on the arrival day but it didnt snow again before leaving apart from perhaps 1cm in the middle - nothing worth talking about.
I found the second week was rock solid in the morning until about 10am and then slush city lower down from about 3pm onwards.
The rock solid mornings would correlate with the number of stretchers we saw - it was shocking to be honest - with my old bones, I left it til 10am before going out - just not worth the risk to me
That was in LM - higher up in VT was pretty good most of the time but was definitely thinning out in a few spots
It seemed incredibly quiet last week as the week progressed - there was no queue for any lift or bar/restaurant that I saw
All in all, it was lovely sunshine and sitting out with a beer in just a tshirt or hoody is nothing to complain about I guess.
But for certain, spring conditions.
Thats the second time I've gone this late to 3V's and I'm starting to enjoy the later starts and sitting out in the sun - the mileage is beginning to reduce and I'm no longer a first/last lift guy unless it has dumped - so perhaps I'm a new spring time visitor
All in all, a lovely 2 weeks

First day of my Les Menuires today, got to say the snow is pretty good. I spent most of the day over in Courcheval, a few bits of unpleasant frozen snow first thing but generally very nice in the morning. By lunchtime slopes with Southern aspects were getting slushy but even at 3pm there were plenty runs still in decent shape.

It's warm, blue sky days. The sunny slopes are hard in the morning, turning to that crystalline stuff through the day. Temp needs to drop as there's a few bits turning brown and the odd rocks showing through in places, above VT all seems pretty good so far.
Made it over to Courcheval 1850 today from Val Thorens. Meribel pistes are doing well, really nice snow......higher up seems to be harder but from 3/4 on the way down they are lovely, slushy coming in the centre where the lifts meet. Courcheval is quite slushy for the last 100-200m down and I think from looking at the map today, anything lower was closed - lifts running up but not pistes. At all the lower lifts you'll get her wet feet from the puddles around the entrances.
Orelle was lovely yesterday afternoon, it's in really good condition, will probably head there tomorrow.
We're all on snowboards, so a bit of spring conditions is fine and actually nicer for us than rock hard corduroy first thing.
There's been about 4 "significant" (not actually sure significant means ) recent avalanches to be seen close enough to the pistes. It's quite grounding to see how big the lumps of "ice/snow" are and the rocks that also come down with it.
Can still board/ski into the back of Balcons by the Red Fox, huge mogul field though with rocks/mud patches so need to pick your routes.

I went to Orelle on Friday morning en route up to Cime Caron and the Maurienne red was pretty busy and hard packed early on. Would have liked to check Orelle out later on but ran out of time.
Was worth it for the Combe de Caron run though — really good nick because it’s so much quieter than usual coming down there.

@abricotine, interesting. Pondering doing it from Cime. Wondering if by mid morning snow will be sufficiently pliable.
