@TheFra, I do the Trout as my morning commute , you can ski it early but be careful as there are two places where the piste bashers garage up at the end of their shift and that time of morning there definitely will be bashers on the slope. They sometimes reverse to park so give em a wide birth. also there are usually more than a couple snow machines roaring up the slope to Mottaret. As others have said quite dark then. If the bus is running may be a better bet....

Still good conditions on piste (if you get out early!) and glorious sunny weather. However, it has got a lot busier this week, with people waiting for the lift openings and long queues developing for the inter valley links. Later in the day, many of the runs are getting rather hard and icy. A change in the weather is forecast for Thursday night with more snow anticipated over the weekend and for the start of next week. There is a good, new picnic area, with toilets, at Roc de Fer, at the top of Olympic chairlift.

Really quick question which I thought might be best asked on this thread.. is there a taxi rank/stand in Meribel? Heading to infamous folie with some youngsters/ teens later in the week and we might want to avoid a ski back to la Tania. Thanks!

Yes - there is one just on the roundabout near the chaudanne, on the other side of Jacks.

Have taken taxi back from Meribel and it's not too expensive as is fairly direct. However, even accounting for having a few beers inside you, the ski back to La Tania from the Meribel Folie D is arguably as easy as that back to Chaudanne - it's just a bit longer, but probably less busy. Gentle green down from Folie to Loze and then from top of Loze it's blues and greens back through the trees to La Tania.

Only if you punt your way up to the top of the Bouc Blanc chair. The only direct access pistes are the black Dou des Lanches or the red Lanches.

It's not really a punt though? Col de la loze is a marked trail and is downhill. It is a bit flat towards the end but most people can manage it without lots of poling. It certainly wouldn't put me off going down this way back to la tania. (Main challenge would be catching the last Loze lift)

Col de la Loze is downhill/flat if you turn right at the rock onto Anemones but that takes you back to 1850, not La Tania. It's also flattish if you turn left onto Lanches, depending on the snow depth and how the piste basher has cut the path - it seems to vary a fair bit from year to year and time of the season. It is most definitely uphill if you want to make the green Loze Est that leads back to Arolles and LT because that run officially starts from the top of Chenus which is at least head height above you from Col de la Loze. There have been rumours for years that S3V would put a rope tow on that section so people coming back from Meribel don't have to punt but it still hasn't happened.
I think when they put in the new Chenus lift next winter, the plan is to move the top station to be nearer Bouc Blanc so perhaps they'll take the opportunity to fix the uphill access issue then so people can use the new Chenus as an easy download option.

Arriving in La Tania on Sunday. Looking like an overcast snowy kind of week. Can anyone advise whether the green run Plan Fontaine links to the red run Murette for access to Le Praz from the top of Tania?

That green run joins the Murettes part way down. The alternative from there is the top section of the black L'Eclipse piste, which then branches off onto Murettes part way down.

@PeakyB, Sorry I missed your reply. Thanks for this. Trying to figure the tree lined potential when visibility is poor. The wife won't take the black on so good to hear there are other options!

@lemoncake, good idea. Not a large number of tree lined runs. Other than La Tania and Le Praz, some lower slopes in the Meribel valley, such as around the Golf chairlift area, offer another option.
Have a great trip.

Absolutely stunning day in Méribel Mottaret today to top off a brilliant week. Pistes were starting to wear thin by Thursday so the snow arrived at the perfect time. Bit lumpy in places today but I’ll take that over the ice any day.
More snow on the way so anyone arriving next week is set for a great time.

All a bit soggy this morning after a wet night. The rain snow limit must have been pretty high. After 2 great days, with pockets of knee to thigh deep snow off piste it’s a bit of a bummer. We didn’t ski but walked the dog today.

That's a bummer. Last January it seemed to rain the whole month. We were hoping for better weather now that it's not an el nineo year.
Please keep us updated.

Spent the day skiing in Meribel (the 3V connections were open but not recommended due to strong wind).
I was concerned but it’s actually pretty good! Sure it’s not the same snow as last Friday but:
- they did a great job prepping the pistes
- there are much much less people than last week obviously so they stay in good shape.
North facing pistes around Tougnete were a bit icy early on but fine.
The pistes under Saulire and above say 1900 were excellent.
Going down to the village was fine too. A bit slushy end of the afternoon but again, really good overall.
We didn’t go to higher parts of the area like Col de la Chambre.
I was with some friends visiting from another resort and they had an absolute blast!

Do Plan Fontaine and Folyeres meet each other part way down to La Tania making it possible to ski part of the way down to La Tania on Plan Fontaine & part of the way on Folyeres? Which part of Folyeres is the steepest. I know it's a blue but have heard it's a tougher blue?
Thanks

@Latania, I would have thought with your user name you should already know!
Anyway, they merge/crossover at the base of the Bouc Blanc chair. So you can ski the top half of Folyeres and then Plan Fontaine to the bottom or vice versa. Unfortunately neither of those will help you very much. The steepest part of Folyeres is the very last pitch just before it merges again with Plan Fontaine but the every first pitch can often be a little bumpy and icy at the end of the day too. If you had to avoid one, I would avoid the lower section.
Your best bet to learn the slope is to ski it first thing when it will be both very quiet and freshly pisted and decide from there if you think you can handle it later in the day or not. You can always download on the LT gondola if neither option suits.

Thanks, that's really helpful. I just didn't want to terrify myself but would love to ski Folyeres! For some comparison I find Pic Bleu pretty daunting and that's a blue too.

There are a couple of routes off the blue on skiers left which loop back avoiding some of the blue, unofficially if you keep going down following these you’ll come out at the back of La Tania.
Highly recommend the walks on that side of La Tania up into the forest

Pic Bleu's a much tougher run than Folyeres. If you can ski that when it's chopped up, you can handle Folyeres. Whilst Folyeres might be navy blue, Pic Bleu is at best purple. I often comment that the only reason Pic Bleu is graded blue is for marketing reasons because it's a link piste, I'm sure it would otherwise still be graded red, as it was 20 years ago. Prior to around 2005, it was graded red and named the slightly illogical Pic Noir. It got regraded to blue following a bit of widening work on the tricky mid section but retained the Pic Noir name before becoming just Pic and then finally Pic Bleu. If that's not all a marketing exercise, I don't know what is.

No one really likes Pic Bleu so don’t worry. The nice thing about it is the hammocks halfway down
We’ve seen so many people lose an edge turning the first sharp left turn.
