Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Any idea where to buy some kids race skis (preferably Tignes but Val fine too), 110cm, something like the Rossi Hero Multi Sport.

My daughter is on a pair of generic 100cm kids skis and is starting to properly stand on her outside ski and arc her turns so want to get her something with a bit more response.

What looked like a nasty incident (collision?) at the junction of the Carline and Double M pistes this afternoon. Lots of pisteurs involved. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was a collision, lots of packs charging around the pistes with little control.

Well a few more clouds escaped over here from Italy on a chilly easterly wind than we expected so the light was a bit variable, it looked worse towards Fornet so we stayed home with a brief foray into La Dalle. The pistes are holding up on the whole, a few parts now need an edge but the blown snow today was helping - as well as increasing the avi risk to 3 this morning. We wee out for 'premiere traces' down Palafour and the resort was remarkably quiet this morning - expecting it to be much busier this next week. It was q=really quite brisk at the top of the Funi - not a day for sightseeing! ot much else to report really.

The weather - change is afoot - particularly towards the end of next week when the jetstream is intensifying which will bring warmish, windy and unsettled conditions. Tomorrow, looks like today but with a bit more cloud which may bring a couple of cm of snow in the morning, particularly at the eastern side of the area - ie le Fornet. Monday should see less wind and sunny spells, there may be a little flocon or two. Tuesday looks like being a nice day - mostly sunny but there may be a bit of that early morning mist that burns off. Wednesday is when the weather starts changing, detail is still sketchy but it will warm up and there might be precipitation, the snowline could well be as high as Lac. After that its looking a bit miserable - but its still a long way off.

Comiserations to the grenoble fliers this morning - the fog lottery landed there and delayed things by a couple of hours. For tomorrow no weather snags in the UK but it may be a bit grey. Over here again it's the mist and fog lottery in France - but I can't forsee many problems as it should clear quite quickly if it forms at all. Geneva - all fine and dandy.

Er... with the (relative) lack of snow, how is Vallee Perdue right now? I assume it's protected from the sun, but don't want to wreck any of our skis.

Everything as planned today - Gde Motte, Aiguille Percee, Johan Claret, ticking (personal) boxes for the kids' enjoyment.

Hello, Anyone advise what's the best/easiest way to get from the Train Station in Bourg St Maurice up to Tignes on a Saturday evening at approx 21:00 ? Wife and 2 kids will arrive by train.
Thanks

@patrick!, Sorry. don't know anyone who has done it - perhaps you could be the crash test dummy?? wink

Well, there was a bit more cloud than forecast, perhaps, certainly more towards Val D'isere and Fornet, reports also came in on a harsh wind on Solaise. So basically we stopped Tignes side where the sun was intermittent, but vis was OK to go to Brev and round the Palet. We did try La Daille for lunch but everyman and his dog was down there so we opted for Marmottes. It was quite humid, so with the wind it was fresh on the face. A bit of snow has fallen - and a bit more has blown in - so some pistes have improved, but not a game changer. The resort is a lot busier this week and the MQ (Muppet Quotient) has increased, sometimes you just need eyes in the back of your head.

Tomorrow may be a bit more cloudy than today, there will still be some wind maybe a few knots less. But there is unlikely to be any more snow so vis might be better - a day for looking out of the window, after I have waved my guests off on an 9am 'drone.
Tuesday should be brighter with sunny spells and a bit warmer, so more pleasant in the villages. Wednesday is when the weather pattern changes so pretty tricky to pin down - currently a cloudy morning, sunny spells in the afternoon and precipitation in the evening - maybe rain to the Dam. Thursday is likely to be snowy, again the snowline at the Dam or maybe a bit higher - but there is a battle royal between the westerly airmass and warmer air from the south so this is likely to change. After that very unsettled - an early call for a difficult transfer day down to half way to Bourg.

No worries, we managed the lost valley.

My report is: plenty of fun, the rope was a nit of a scare but more for the adults than the kids (we helped out the 7yo and the 14yo just jumped). The bottom part was similarly a pain for us parents, kids waited a good 5mn at la Daille. If you get there bail out once you can get a chance, for ex. via the ski touring path (take extra care with upcoming tourers).

Earlier we also ticked the Face de Belevarde box. The sun was playing hide and seek today so we didn't dare getting to Solaise and further.

Altogether a great weekend in Espace Killy (not sure when the name changed)!

@Dutch Carl, I think thats new - so can't help I'm afraid.

The'Drone arrived on time to take the guests away. I popped out for a quick ski to Brev and back with a mate - but the weather appeared from Val D'Isere again so came back in to clean etc. It seems to have cleared up a bit now - but its an early dinner as we are all going to a charity quiz night at Lo Terrachu in memory of the much missed Joe Harkess. Hopefully a good amount will be raised for Snow Camp.

Tomorrow will be a sunny day, but chilly with not much breeze. Clouds will start appearing late afternoon and by the middle of the night it will be overcast. Wednesday will be grey and cloudy with intermittent showers, early on the snowline will be in Brev - it will then move up the hill towards the Dam or maybe a bit higher where it will remain all night. This will continue into Thursday morning, and the snowline will move down the hill again. The rain/snow will stop just after the lifts shut to leave a clear night. Potentially over the 2 days we should see 20-30cm of much needed snow. Friday - sunny periods essentially a nice day. And Saturday now looks OK, the front travelling from the north-west appears to grind to a halt before it reaches us leaving a reasonable day - until it changes its mind again.

Very busy out there today (as anticipated). Had a few associates with us today and the rest of the week. So had to stop for lunch. Where do you get 20 people to RV mid-lunchtime? Went to the Aspen in the end managed to get some seats, but absolutely mobbed.

@Ski lots, Marmottes at the base of Borsat lift is one of the biggest places. It will also be busy but you might find enough seats. The next challenge will be to pay for your sub-motorway service station quality food before it goes stone cold due to the utterly ridiculous queuing for two tills. Then hope that your skis haven't been stolen (as you can guess I'm no fan of the place).

@Dr John, yep get all the above. I was being rhetorical - we have been skiing here for 30 years. We did consider L’Armoise, but we would have had to book and so many of the group were not sure if they wanted more than a snack.

Random question - am I right that to get to top of Borsat (ie for Borsat / Fresse green runs); that you have to take Fresse from VC? Or Toviere from Lac (then drop down by park to get Mont Blanc)?

We are staying in Lac with young kids in April and just working out best way to get to these greens from Lac as will be nice long runs for the kids to get more comfortable (post morning group lessons).

We tried the L'Arti on the PSB in December. It was the opening night of the season for them so wasn't that busy, however the food was good, fairly traditional with some international options. The lady who was front of house was very friendly and helpful.

@Drew Carey, probably Fresse lift would be the best and when you dismount, head slightly right as that is an easier slope than the route immediate in front that most people will take.

This will bring you onto the greens down to Borsat lift. Again, at the top of Borsat, carry on straight to take the easier escape road rather than the main piste that can get chopped up.

To get back to Tignes take the green down to Tommeuses and download on Toviere.

The other tricky point is the top of the Bellevarde but there are some steps to the side of the main gondola.

I’m in Val Claret with small kids, Fresse definitely the gentlest way in to the Borsat greens.

From Tufs, which is outside our door it’s blue from Toviere, and takes you down below Borsat as well, takes you Marmottes where you can take the ‘ski tranquille’ green piste to Borsat.

Our kids are strong enough to ski blues and beyond but the first couple of days while getting their legs Fresse to Borsat greens was a good call.

A successful night at the quiz last night. Firstly, and most importantly, over €2000 was raised for Snow Camp. I won a couple of bottles of vin in the raffle and our team came second in the Quiz, winning a dinner for 2 with wine voucher at QDC. That'll make a reasonable dent in the bill for the team of 5. And the evening was lubricated with Sapaudia's finest - quite the night! Well done to Sev for organising it in memory of her son and to Steve - one of the most original quizmasters there is - or he could just be a devious bar-steward!

As the guests left there was little in the fridge, bar yoghurts so I left the sparkling pistes for the gilded aisles of Super U and Lidl this morning - grand day for a drive down the hill.

As for the weather - its a complex picture as Storm Éowyn takes shape and as we are towards the southern elements of its influence the synoptic charts keep (and will keep on) changing. So I'll not bother with Saturday as I have lost the polishing cloth for my crystal ball (but there will be disruption to travel on air travel on Friday which may spill over into Saturday as aircraft have to reposition).

Tomorrow will be very cloudy, and there may be a few showers of snow in the morning. The afternoon should just be grey but the temperature will rise so the chance of snow showers later in the evening may well give sleet or even rain in Brev. Thursday will see precipitation all day (with a potential sunny spell in the afternoon) the snowline will be around or slightly lower than the Dam. Friday will seen blue skies in the morning and sunny spells in the afternoon and pleasantly warm out of a cheeky breeze.

It was fairly grizzly this morning so I popped up for coffee with Mrs and Mr Lynnecha at the Oxygene cafe for a catch up. The weather then cleared for a couple of hours so I had a run round the Aiguille Percée sector which was great except for Sache - which was nice at the top apart from the avoidable grassy patches on the crest, we then had VW Beetle sized moguls and blue ice and hard pack on the last steep pitch - testing - so we won't be going there gain until after a lot of snow - luckily - see below.

I then spent the best part of 2 hours on 'chat' to EE - see separate thred on the cancellation of roaming with no notice. So it went from a good day to a bad day.

It has clouded over again and snow will start later this evening (might be sleety in Brev), this will then turn heavier tomorrow morning (whiteout) and then lighter showers in the afternoon with maybe a hint of sun - maybe 10cm ish. Friday will see sunny periods and be quite warm with a breeze at altitude. Currently, it looks like we will be OK on Saturday with sunny spells and fluffy clouds, snow may come well after dark and the wind will become strong from mid afternoon. Sunday is a long way off but, probably, snow through the morning clearing later with a much increased avalanche risk with the wind.

@muppet, I was chaparoning a friend around the lower AP, whilst Mrs SL was belting around Tov and Belv with some of the big boys in the group. I think the Marais closure was either some planned checks or perhaps a staff shortage, it did seem to be well flagged,

@kitenski, That must have been in an untouched area, all the tracks from yesterday were still visible out of the window this morning, despite the 6cm of snow in resort and 10cm up the Motte. I had a day inside doing trivia as it was only just snow this morning, judging by the speed it was falling. It was very foggy most of the day, but there have been sunny breaks this morning. But it did get to about 6degs in the village this afternoon - there is less snow on my balcony now than there was last night. the snowplough has just pushed a wave of brown slush down the road!

Unsurprisingly, the synoptic charts over the next few days are hectic so anything beyond a couple of days is halfway between guess work and astrology. But tomorrow will be nice, a bit cooler than today and sunny periods all day. Saturday will be a bit warmer and the wind will pick up at altitude in the afternoon - just one eye on the links. Well after dark, once most people have arrived precipitation will start, it will be wet below the Dam. This will turn to snow on Sunday morning giving us another dusting. By lunchtime it should be sunny spells and fluffy clouds on the peaks. Monday - the jury is out (probably the other side of Lyon) but France and the US systems are showing heavy precipitation which may well be rain uo to 2000m. On the other hand the Swiss are saying no precipitation! Unsettled after this and cooler.

In other news: A piste basher driver must have had a shock the night before last, he was working on the steep Signal Piste when the wire attaching the basher to the anchor point snapped. Luckily for him the basher slid into one of the pylons on the Signal Poma and stopped, but it did a lot of damage to the Pylon. They are hoping to cannibalise a pylon from the now defunct Col Pomas, but its going to take time. So, to access all that off piste will require skins - and a fit body!
