@mountainaddict, The parking garages in Val are currently showing free but that will probably change in the next few days.
Parking is limited at the moment due to the La Daille open air car park being closed, as it’s being used for storage of construction trucks.
It’s a lovely day here in Val with the temperature currently -5 in town.
The piste bashers are busy working around La Daille ready for tomorrow.
Apparently not enough snow on Solaise to ski back to town so it will be the gondola down.
On Bellevarde the bottom of Diebold still has vegetation showing but the OK and Raye pistes seem in much better condition.

I presume that if they opened the liaison in the morning, they wouldn't close it at 1pm due to the piste wearing thin?

From Radio Val this morning:
"Part of the ski area will be open tomorrow in the Solaise and Bellevarde sector. On Solaise, the first skiers will be able to take the slopes Plan Milet, Glaciers, the Col de la Madeleine, the Fourche, Marais, the Lac de l'Ouillette and Parc à moutons. To go back down to the resort, skiers will have to take the Solaise gondola. Regarding Bellevarde, four tracks will be opened including Collet, Grand pré, Génépi, but also Diebold to the Marmotte chairlift. The Régie des pistes is also working with the STVI for a possible opening of the Mont-Blanc chairlift, thus allowing access to the Moutons and Les Tines slopes. The link between the departure of the Marmotte chairlift and the departure of the Mont-Blanc chairlift remains to be confirmed. A start of the season that encountered difficulties because of the weather conditions that the station has suffered in recent days, as Cédric Bonnevie, Director of the Régie des pistes, tells us. "A lot of winds, I think we were really among the most affected. On the summits, it removed all the snow even moved the pebbles: it's quite lunar. We had pretty nice tracks, but we didn't have access to them. The work in recent days of our drivers is a big bubble job to recover the snow where it was, gather it, then reassemble it to make transitions. This will be the case in particular on the departure of the Diebold. She is quite pretty when we did 400 metres, but the whole upper part was just pebbles so we had to bring back snow. This snow that was removed by this storm that is quite remarkable anyway and that caused damage: torn huts, masts on the ground. Things I had never seen before. But it's already good to be here and have certain certainties. An opening of the Olympic Stadium is possible from next week. The track is already well snowed and the teams are on the ground to prepare it for the Criterium of the first snow. Nevertheless, the Iseran will not be open this weekend, note that the Vallon gondola should be ready for use around December 21"
So from that it appears the links won't be open on Saturday and no pistes down into La Daille.

Hi everyone! I am staying in Tignes 1800 from Dec 5th - Dec 9th, does anyone have any good restaurant recs? Would love a nice quaint place for some fondue/raclette - also do you need to book? thanks!

@eak99,I don't know whats available in 1800, but pop on the bus to Lac. Most of the restos do what you ask, but the Eterlou on Rue de la Poste is still family owned and would fit the bill. The Refuge on the snow front has got a bit pricey, especially when you are doing the cooking at the table. If you want to push the boat out you could try La Ferme de 3 Capucines, its not cheap but very good. Its just at the entry to Lac on the road that goes to Lavachet before the village starts. You can watch the animals through a smell proof internal window whilst you eat. Real good with kids!

 You know it makes sense.

@stevew, Its all very quiet, which I suspect means not a lot more lifts for this weekend. From Cedric's report I am surmising that the snow at and below the Folie Douce is insufficient to get to Tommeuses. as ots relatively warm its tricky to make enough snow to make the runs safe. As a throwaway, perhaps Aiguille Percee will be next as its all above Merles. From the webcams I cant see any piste poles down either way from the top of Chaudannes.
And the weather - the first few days are relatively nailed on but then with the precipitation mid week there is a vast range of opinions on the amount of snow - the French and The Swiss are going for quite a bit, the US and Norwegians more of a severe dusting. So, keep an eye on rapidly fluctuating apps and use more than one to get an idea. I foresee App Bingo in the Bar of the Taos.
Tomorrow will be cool and sunny - great for an arrivals day. Sunday - err the same. Monday it will warm up a bit and clouds will build through the day and it will start snowing after dark, it might be a bit sleety below the Dam. How long this snow will continue through the day depends on the passage of the weather system - it may continue all day - or stop mid morning or somewhere in between, again moist below the Dam. Wednesday - mmm - anything could happen. If you want the most snow vote for the French!
As for travel in the morning - down south is going to be grey and murky and potentially foggy. Stansted and Luton look the most vulnerable, in fact, Luton is for nailed on fog and quite dense. Nothing to stop a departure, but if your aircraft is coming from elsewhere it could be an issue. Things will also be moving slowly. Geneva will be fine, Lyon may be foggy but with 2 runways and top end kit it shouldn't be a problem.
Bon ski y'all.

Out and about today in Bourg for a huge shop at Super U then Weldom, Picard and one of the local breweries.
Also collected the ski test cards for the weekend.
The tourist board had this picture available explaining what is going to open.
Thoughts were that nothing more will open for a few days.
Last night we were speaking to someone involved Le Soli restaurant in Tignes and they are not opening for an other week due to doubts over the lifts in that area.

Sorry the poor quality of the picture. The green lines are the open lifts and blue the runs.
Personally I’m avoiding ski ing on the snow front as it was like a skating rink today with solid ice, even some of the tyres are showing.
Just going to make the most of what we’ve got and see what it’s like tomorrow.

Niurou steakhouse (in the Palafour building) is also ace. Lovely steaks, good wine list and great hospitality. Loop still turns out great burgers. Not sure what will be open though - I'd email them first.

The bus between La Daille and Tignes 1800 (and back ) will resume tomorrow.
Only 3 in the morning then 3 very late afternoon/early evening in each direction.
Do be aware pedestrians get priority so you are not guaranteed a space, due to the ski links being closed it’s expected to be popular.

Toviere and Tufs have opened this morning which was a bit of a pleasant surprise. Looks like the only piste of note down is Henri. The links are forecast for Tuesday according to Tignes. Reports from resort are saying the pistes are narrower than full season.
For those that like a sausage roll The Corner opens tomorrow!
There is also the French Ski Alpine cup is happening up Palafour and Aiguille Percee this weekend.

A few pics of the last couple of days in Tignes. In summary:
- Blue skies.
- Temps varying from +13C in Le Lac yesterday to a nippy -7C above Val Claret today.
- Cover on the mountains looks very thin, but some lovely packed powder at altitude and some worn/slick bits in heavily trafficked areas. Overall, pretty decent for the time of year.
- Nice and quiet early doors today, but saw the 08.55 queue for the funicular and didn't bother with the glacier. Double M looked pretty busy by early afternoon.
- All in all, a brilliant couple of days so far - especially as it's Mrs MA's ski comeback after she broke her leg skiing in Japan in Feb '23. (I reported about it on here at the time ). It's been a long and hard road to rehab, featuring two operations, but she's back at last! We both felt quite overwhelmed (and overjoyed!) to be back on snow in the Alps

Hi All,
I'm lucky enough to be able to squeeze 2 weeks in this year. Daddy/daughter trip 8th Feb. I snowboard, and would like to kick on a bit this year. Thinking of trying to do an off-piste boarder course for at least 3 days if not 6. ESF and Evolution appear to focus on on-piste unless I go private...prefer to do something more cost-savvy as will do the second week. Afternoons are probably better as my daughter will do either ESF or Evolution 2 snowboard classes in the afternoons. Any thoughts or recommendations?
Thanks
Eoin

If there is enough snow the whole of the resort will be open by then, from top to bottom. However, nature will have the final word!

I was out for a couple of days but heading back this evening. Actually sat at GVA whilst I type.
Despite the limited opening, it's not been too bad out there and a couple of nice sunny days which beats the rain at home. Still wasn't too crowded with not much open.
Will be driving back out in a couple of weeks with the dog for Christmas and New Year. Hopefully a bit more snow before then. Currently pouring down in Geneva.

Ditto walking back from a nice pizza in Dahu at Tignes Val Claret
It felt almost tropical (2C) when we went out, with the most icy and dangerous pavements we've ever seen in Tignes (or anywhere else come to think of it...) finally starting to give a bit.

Can anyone confirm whether 24-hr busses are running between Le Lavachet and Val Claret this year? From what I can see online they’ve run in past years but the timetables I can find for this year don’t have them.
