@kitenski, not in resort but not far away, and will be there Friday. I've been around a bit, can read a forecast and look at webcams. There have been opening weekends previously with twice as much snow as now and the lift/pistes have still been very limited. I hope I'm wrong, but just can't see it.

I can remember around this time, a few years back, being able to walk nearly to the top of Palafour and only getting snow on my boots for the last 20m of vertical. I would be a little surprised if they don't open the link on time. Think there is enough cover, looking at cams, even if stony in places. Arrive Saturday

I've been out every day this week and loved every second of it.
It was a bit thin in places but last night's snow made a big difference. There were large patches of bare ground by Grattalu where they often do the race training but all that was skiable today and it's not too warm for the rest of the week. Anemone had been a little icy but was a carver's paradise today. Clearly 10cm isn't going to save a season but the snow cannons were back in action in places today, so who knows what they'll be able to pull out of the bag.
The runs down into La Daille look great. Plan down from Solaise looked pretty poor yesterday.
I was going to post some pics but I can't see how to do that.

@Dr John, @chocksaway, Gosh doesn't sound great. However even if the new Vallon gondola isn't operational as yet there is always the Pyramides chair and Col double poma that can be used to get up folk up towards Glacier du Pisaillas area.
My understanding is that it was expected for the new Vallon gondola to open a few weeks later but in time for Christmas week. I think this was the reason they retained the Col drag for this season, to allow access to glacier in the meantime.
Unfortunately, the drag does need a reasonable snow depth to open, especially the drag on the right hand side.

@Markscotski, I think they'll be focusing resources on getting BV & Solaise up and running for the limited number of punters in town. They don't like running empty lifts.

Hi SnowHeads, sorry to jump in but a quick query... heading to Tignes with a group of 11 in March, preference of the group is to buy lift passes nearer departure date to ease the January finance crunch. From my (limited) experience, this is no problem, but wondering if anyone knew of a real risk of passes selling out/ getting more expensive?

@CJP94, Welcome to snowHeads.
The answers are no and no! Nor do they get cheaper.
(Been to Tignes every year nearly since 1996, had a pad there for 20 years).

@CJP94, Welcome to snowHeads
Buy 'em in resort. The 6/7 day pass is exactly 6x the cost of a day pass so if the weather looks like it may wipe out a day or more (or if you have group members who don't want to ski every day), you are better off getting day passes (although obviously slightly more inconvenient) as although lift pass "refunds" are given if the resort closes, it has to close *fully* and I gather the "refund" is in the form of future lift pass credit rather than actual money. It's been a while; I stand to be corrected.
Tignes/Val is usually fantastic in March, enjoy!

@Dr John, Every other time I've been on the PSB (about half a dozen or so) the up and over chairlift, Vallon gondola and lifts up the Fornet glacier have been open (weather permitted). Given the price of lift passes these days they should open as many lifts as they can otherwise people will vote with their feet! Bring back the good old days of £100 or less (ok before anyone comments I know it will never happen again) for a 6 day full area lift pass at top ski areas like Espace Killy, 3V's and 4V's etc.

@Markscotski, The new Vallon Gondola will not be operational until 21 Dec 24 (from Val D ‘Isere.com). From the Lessieres webcam the Col pomas appear to still be there but the track is green so there is no way to Pissailas. The cover on the Pistes between the top and bottom of the Gonfola looks very thing.

@Markscotski, And some. Biggest gust I know of in the EK was 240kph at the top of the Grande Motte. They think it got stronger but that gust blew the anemometer off its support, never to be seen again.

The early season rates are certainly not cheap for the very limited amount of lifts and terrain @Markscotski...

Is that early season Dolomites price @Peter S? Tignes trumps that by €1 in main season!
I understand that new lifts cost multi-million euros, but (IMO) lift tickets are becoming prohibitively expensive now. Surely it's pricing people out of ski holidays. €58 for a half day!
It's only about three years since lift passes hit the €50/day mark - so, at the rate it's going, we could well be seeing €100/day before too much longer. And this is after we seemed to go for about 10 years at around €30-35 a day. Not to mention that this lark of offering no discount for multi-day passes is now the accepted norm.

Hefty lift pass price hikes seem to be a global phenomenon. We seem to be following the US with a move from paying enough to cover the running costs and modest investment to a profit maximisation strategy.

Just to make folk feel worse. We are paying less than £9 per day equivalent for a senior owner’s season pass. Whilst that is great for us, it does seem rather an imbalance. Especially as we almost certainly spend less per day in local shops and restaurants compared to people on a one week holiday

@Ski lots, That's a brilliant deal. How many days skiing is the £9 per day based on, are you counting every day in the winter season as a ski day from November to towards the beginning of May or what?
@Markscotski, the actual number of days should be around 75, but we have not settled all our travel arrangements yet. The bill came through as £1208 for 2. We also had to pay £139 for the owners’ scheme, but that gives us other benefits including cheaper parking. There is still a big French owners lobby in Tignes. I remember a meeting pre-Covid when the authorities were explaining the new benefits they were proposing. The offer of a number of free goes on the climbing wall did not go down well. The 60+ year olds were only interested in cheap skiing.

All looking a bit moist and grey today with drizzle to somewhere between the Dam and Lac this afternoon. Hence most folks that are out are on Double M to get higher, without being blown away by the winds up top.

Woah! I've been desperately hanging on, hoping my knees will do another 5 years so that I can have at least one free go!
The down side to the old gits concession on passes is that insurance premiums take the reverse trajectory.
