@chocksaway, I’ve seen folk walking down the road to Le Lac and kids playing around buildings. Pisteur has just been on the radio confirming the magic carpet and Lavachet drag!

Anyone on hire skis needs to pop back to the shop and do a swapsies for some "Plus larges" skis for when it opens.
Enjoy......I think

Magic carpet in Le Lac is open. Does opening a single "lift" mean no total closure of the ski area for insurance purposes?! Or is that just me being cynical.

@larkim, I would think you would have to check your small print. To be fair, I think they are trying to get lessons going for the many ankle biters that are around this week. From past experience if they did manage to open a single major lift (which I don’t think they will) it would be bedlam in terms of queue and piste etiquette.

By decision of the Mayor of Tignes and in agreement with the Prefecture of Savoie, following the safety commission and the latest weather information:
• Confinement (obligation to stay at home) until 15:00 then from 20:00 this evening and until further notice.
• From 15:00 to 20:00, you may walk around and buy supplies with caution and within your neighbourhood (no traffic between neighbourhoods).
• No shuttle buses will be running.
This arrangement is applicable in all sectors of Tignes 2100, 1800 and 1550 les Brévières.

Seems to be loads of people ignoring that around Lac! And they have a lift open?

Magic Carpet now shut according to Lumiplan@larkim, You are being cynical, that’s a free lift and therefore doesn’t affect the payout of lift closure insurance.

Plenty of people kicking around Les Brévières. There were folks out playing in the snow before 7am

Cynicism over! Confinement to 3pm; will restaurants be open this evening with the confinement after 8pm? Never had this sort of experience before so a bit naive about all of this.
|
|
|

Having been in this situation a couple of times before I wouldn’t count on restaurants being open. I think the notice suggests people should use the 3-8 time to get supplies. Stay safe.

Bit of a bummer losing a day today but understandably safety comes first.
Looking forward to tomorrow.. with the weather looking bright is it likely the lifts will reopen or will this amount of snow cause several days worth of impact ?

@larkim, No, they are fairly strict about this, I would be surprised if they open at all. The app suggests you are only allowed out for supplies!

@JGSKI, likely to be delays at best and some lifts/slopes will stay closed. Depends when the snow stops and what they can blast and the potential implications for that blasting. Snow could also get very humid very quickly.

We have had nearly 2m on the balcony overnight, everything in Val d shut, yesterday was raining in town and 2 yards of visibility up top and slushy. Just heard Tignes are on a curfew and told to stay indoors due to risk to life.
The snow is hardly relenting and looks like it will carry on.
Not sure when we will be able to ski.

Only another 10cm to go according to the forecast and stopping by 7pm - perhaps it’s the optimist in me but hopefully there’s a likelihood of skiing tomorrow

Just been out to the front of the hotel. Plenty of Tignes ‘staff’ about and a few Gendarmes. They don’t seem too bothered
There’s even a guy taking a lesson on the slope by the magic carpet!

It's more a liability thing, if a big lump of snow slides off a roof and hurts someone the mairie can say they took all steps to ensure security by telling people not to wander about and stay home.
There are going to be some serious floods in the valleys in the coming weeks

@Alex A, Crikey, your daughter at Uni. Is it that long since we skied together?

Just had a message from QDC HQ, the resto is open tonight but only for folks in Lavachet. Inter village movement is banned. Tables available!
That is of course until the authorities change their mind!

@JGSKI, There seems to be some conflicting info doing the rounds on social media. Business owners trying to get some clarity as to what they're allowed to do. So you may find that some places are going to do takeaways in Lavachet between 3pm and 8pm. Check places like Pizza Nick, Kodo and La Bodega for eg.
( other restaurants are available )
