@Chaletbeauroc, do you have a link to all of these free resort add-ons? I can't see all of them on the official site.

@bcl,
So maybe email ESF avoriaz of ESF Morzine.
If you’re arriving mid week then it’s most likely gonna have to be private lessons.
(Group lessons generally run Sunday to Friday).
Then once you have got availability you can decide which areas you want. (avoriaz if Morzine/Les Gets.
You either want to ski morzine/Les gets side of the Avoriaz side. (Not both as it’s too complicated? So you need either a Morzine or Avoriaz Pass.
Don’t try and ski both sides. Make it easy on your self that way.
If it’s too late to sort lessons on-line go and speak with the ESF in their Morzine office and sort passes after you know your arrangements for lessons.
This time of year the snow is better in Avoriaz but Morzine would mean less travelling for you so probably a better trip and less stress if you ski Morzine.Les Gets side.

@bcl, really depends if you want to meet at lunch etc. Might be better for the group if they are in Avoriaz as better snow. Ski lessons start Sunday afternoon through to the following Friday. Best to book a morning session Mon-Fri as they snow will be better. Hopefully they will progress to blues by the end of the week.

Just booked last week of season. Staying by Prodains so wife can go into Morzine town and we can go up the cable car.
Will all restaurants in Avoriaz and Morzine be open that week or will some be closed?
Thanks all.

@DJL,
I was out and stayed in Prodains... then skied in Avoriaz/PlJ/Les Crosstes and Chapoussin last week.
Conditions were great (Considering it was late March) all the way down to Linga, Les Crossets OK and Champoussin was like a ghost town
Went all the way doen to Morgins too - No prob.
And all the guys I was with were content. Yep it was a slush fest in the afternoon but I was happy enough.

Thanks for the update.
I'm going out there in a couple of days. Any strategy observations in terms of whether the sweet-spot between morning ice and afternoon slush moves around the mountain particularly?

Hit the Swiss Side in the morning as that gets the sun. Les Crossets closes 13th April.
Runs down to Ardent/Prodains/ etc are a slush fest early as they are low. (Often using the telecabin to go down can be a good idea late in the day)

Piste B was in surprisingly good shape yesterday at 2pm. Slushy, but little traffic all day so not too bumped up. Only a few brown patches, nothing major in terms of dodging stones.

We have been going to Grand Massif (Flaine) for the last few years, largely because the one can get a ski-in/ski-out studio for under 500 euros a week (often even less).
With the PDS's flash sale imminent, I am tempted to try the new area - but struggling to find out what accommodation is like around PDS? My gut feeling is that it is much more expensive in Les Gets/Morzine/Avoriaz areas as that seems to have a different 'calibre'/style of accommodation?

@alexsas,
Yep, Avoriaz is not cheap and Morzine is not budget.
The best value place I regularly stay at (as a season pass holder living in the UK and trying to keep it cheap) is this budget/ one start good value place.
https://www.capfun.com/residence-montagne-hiver-morzine-site-FR.html
Like £450/£500 for a small Apt for a week mid Jan.
£650/700 for a two x bed the same week.
It’s 2 x min from Prodains gondola that gets you up to Avoriaz but Prodains is a quiet hamlet.
Apts in Avoriaz approx twice the price.

Well I’ve taken the plunge and booked the tunnel with a 20% discount and coming for the last week of the season. I can live with an early start, crispy piste turning to slush and early finish, rain and porridge not so much.
Keep the reports coming if there’s still anyone there!

We’ve been in Avoriaz this week, travelling home tomorrow after a last morning ski. Conditions have been better than expected, lovely in the morning, slushy lower down by lunchtime. Chatel has been delightful, the runs off lac intrets have been ok even late in the afternoon, it’s been a fab week. We’ve just booked for the same week next year.

Just arrived in Chatel today staying to 21st. Sadly working next week which will limit time on the snow but looking to make it up next week. Super Châtel and Linga close tomorrow. Linga is early as they need to dismantle the tele-cabine to make way for the new high speed chair being built in time for next season.

I'm on day 2 in Avoriaz, and this pretty much sums up our experience so far. Way better than I was expecting for the time of year and the whole family having lots of fun.

Complete newbie here. Travelling to Morzine on Thursday and 2 grown up sons are looking to try snowboarding (no experience). I know we will have to go much higher(have a car) but can anyone recommend lessons, Fri-Sun? They will need all the gear too... Cheers!

@Careful Now,
Get up to the Avoriaz/Linderts sector.
Parking at Ardent is Free. Parking at Prodains is paid. Maybe sort lessons tomorrow and then you can decide where to park.
Either Park At Ardent and reach out to ESF Montriond and ask for lessons to start and the top of Ardent bubble at Les Linderets (ESF Montriond beginner area meeting point....Its at the top of Ardent Bubble).
https://www.ski-school-montriond.co.uk/

The free 'M' bus also goes to Ardent if you are on the 'M' bus route.
Or get to Prodains and use Prodains bubble to get to Avoriaz. By either driving and Parking at Prodains (Paid parking) or get the Free 'A&U' bus to Prodains bubble. From there you have two x options.
Ask ESF Avoriaz for private lessons to start/end at the top of Prodains bubble.
Or get the boys onto the Plateau Chair lift and get them up to the Avoriaz Plateau beginner area where the main Avoriaz ESF meeting area is.

Anita in the ESF Avoriaz office is a Brit ExPat and is very helpful. +33 (0)4.50.74.05.65
Personally if youre driving and can organise lessons in advance that start/end in Les Linderets with ESF Montriond I would park at Ardent (Or get 'M' bus).
Other snowboard specific schools are great but not cheap.

There is a ski/snowboard retal shop at Ardent at the base of the gondola - https://www.ardent-sports.com/en/
There is a ski/snowboard rental shop at the base of Prodains - https://location-ski.sport2000.fr/magasins/1175-sport-2000-prodains-sports?at_medium=cta&at_campaign=google_local&at_creation=gmb
Private lessons for 2 or better still 3 hr would work best. Privates with the ESF are decent vaue for two x people sharing.

@Careful Now,
P.S give yourself way more time than you think to get the gear, lift passes and to the Snowboard school meeting point. This one sounds obvious but Make sure the lads are fed and hydrated (the 1st lesson will probably be in one spot ... drag lift etc, so tell them to take a bottle of water with them. Friday looks warm).

@Careful Now,
P.P.S you have left it too late to book with ESF on-line (outside of their on-line booking window) so my advise would be to phone them on Wednesday or if you arrive into resort early enough on Thursday then the ESF Montriond used to have an office in Montriond village next to le Rocher Pizza restaurant.
Or the ESF also have an office at the top of the Prodains Bubble in Avoriaz. You could buy a return pedestrian lift pass Thursday afternoon and go see the staff in the ESF in the Office at the top of Prodains bubble.

question : heading from Linga to P.L.Joux i have to take the Linga gondel, and then then Lecho Alpin. After that? anothe lift? or i can ski the blue and then then i reach the la Belette...
and is the green slope usually open?

I think Linga bubble closed on Saturday (it’s being replaced this summer).
So my understanding is that Linga red piste and Echo Alpin chair lift l plus Linga bubble is all closed now for the 2025/26 winter.

I'm sure the Linga bubble stopped spinning on Sunday ... it will be replaced with a 6-seater chair ahead of next season. Which leads me to think that Echo Alpin might also be closed. Do you have a car? I'd drive to the PLJ car park if I were you to be on the safe side.

You will take the new Linga Chair > ski down > up Echo Alpin chair. From the top you are on the ridge dividing the Linga and and PLJ sectors. From there you have 3 options to reach Plane Dranse which is the heart of PLJ which has a cluster of restaurants. a) A blue ski run called L'Itinearaire which cuts across b) Ski down to bottom of Les Combes and take the Cornebois Chair where from the top you have options as you will see on the map, or c) the Queyset drag lift also at the bottom of Combes where at the top you go straight ahead by a cat track to PD.
