@Biscuit4321, Conditions should be good in a week no need to worry. There is a nice beginners slope with a drag lift on the Linderets plateau to get you going and also the long green.

What @Ozboy, said. The Barmettes bunny-hill off the button-lift, then Lecherette green piste off the Lechere chairlift, then add the Abricotine blue piste off the Cases chairlift, then onto any of the blue pistes off the Linderets chairlift if you're going well. Happy skiing!

@Biscuit4321,
When you’re ready for it, Covanges is a wide blue run that you can take from the top of ‘Linderets’ chair lift that will bring you back to Linderets.
It’s not crazy steep but is a bit steeper when you’re ready to move onto the next level.

Fresh snow as we left this morning, around 3cm of wet stuff at 1300m. Everything looks much prettier. Seems very busy, we couldn't get a restaurant booking yesterday and Intermarche was crazy at 1800 yesterday.

@Ozboy @shep @247snowman thank you for replying and good to know that conditions look good. I'm hoping to make a bit more progress there, as I didn't find Reberty ideal last year as the blues immediately around where I stayed were a bit steep for me and it was very icy, and the greens were just narrow roads, and my confidence got a bit knocked.

@Biscuit4321,
Book some lessons with Montriond ESF.
Maybe a couple of private 2hr lessons.
The Montriond ESF meet in Linderets.

To think of it Linderets is probably one of the best spots in PDS for beginners to start, progress and spread their wings as confidence grows. Just avoid Chaux Flurie as the run back can be very tricky with the undesirable combination of bumps and reckless skiiers.

Well today was “fun”
Great stuff to be had off the piste but the runs had clearly been pisted before the snow arrived.
A nice icy hard pack under 5 inches of snow. We ended up having a nice long lunch in Les Marmottes before heading back for an early finish.

Avoriaz also has a great progression now that the Proclou/Super-Morzine sector exists. When I was teaching for ESF, we had to take them straight from the Plateau des Debutants (the bunny-hill) to Arare (via the Boulevard Skieurs ), or Linderets. It was carnage!
I'm not familiar enough with the progression from any of the other access points, although Les Gets (Chavanne side obviously!) always looks to have good options. What about elsewhere?

@shep, If I remember the 1990s correctly I had lessons on a Chatel bunny slope behind Linga and next stop was Linga itself. Also carnage!

@shep, My kids enjoyed skiing and I enjoyed the mountains, and after a while I got to be a distinctly average skier. Twenty years on I still am!

Mt Chery in good shape this morning as it was being pisted at around 07.30 today. People having fun off piste, being a strictly piste skier I enjoyed a run down the Lievre completely on my own, my OH caught up at the chair after a bit of faffing with his phone. There was a distinct lack of any snow clearing on most of the chair lifts.
We are staying in a friend’s chalet in Les Gets near the lake and missing the restaurant at the lake as it is not open this year, and for a posh night out l’Outa opposite the Marmotte hotel is no longer there. There appears to be more and more building still going on in Les Gets which is a great shame - there were very strict planning rules in force when we built our chalet in 2000 and the size that could be built was a percentage of the size of plot/land. Quite a small chalet opposite where we are staying was built early 2000’s and has been sold and knocked down since last year and a huge four storey place is almost finished which is a huge brooding presence to all around it. At one time we head wanted to build a small extension to our living room and were told that there was no way we would have been granted permission as we would have exceeded the size allowed for the plot. Hey ho - just rather glad that we no longer own anything here.

@Pamski, Mt Chery rocks!
My take is that the global wealth-gap creates an insatiable demand for property in nice places, and said places struggle to manage it. They don't want the golden goose killed by paving-over paradise, at the same time construction and tourism is all the local economy has. Haut-Chablais has decided that the least-worst way to keep-on-building whilst preserving the precious "patrimoine", is to stop the sprawl into the surrounding countryside and to relax the planning restrictions within the existing villages. Whether that's the best solution I've no idea, but I agree that it's sad to see all the cute old places quickly disappearing.

Does anyone remember what @WindOfChange, changed his user name to? It was a clever play on words in French? He used to post on PdS a lot, I just thought I'd try to say Hi and how's it going...

Although the new snow was welcome, I found it very hard going. One minute lovely soft stuff next minute down to the icy base. The wind picked up in the afternoon.. and this evening there was snow in Avoriaz. Stopped now. And it’s above freezing. ( note we were skiing in les crosets where the mixed conditions were most evident)

@Pamski, Interested to hear your thoughts on owning a place in Les Gets. We purchased our chalet in 2006 and absolutely loved it and made so many cherished memories. However we sold 18 months ago for various reasons with a view to possibly buying something smaller there. I am torn however with the changes in the village

Been pissing it down all day in the village here (Morgins), and just had a Avalanche 4 warning from Swiss meteo. Makes me wonder if the two long long rumbling noises I heard earlier this afternoon were avalanches echoing around the valley. I first thought the first one was thunder, but it goes on for too long. And just as I'm typing there's another one - rolling rumbling noise for around 15 seconds this time, earlier ones were a bit longer I think.
Edit: Ignore that, it's just thunder, now seeing lightning flashes as well.

Thunder and Lightning passed through Le Grand Bornand ten to fifteen minutes ago, no Santa and no presents.
Judging by the torrent of water flowing down the river next to us I should've packed my whitewater kayak!
No sign of anything wintry below 1800m here yet.

And been snowing in Morzine already this evening/forecast to continue till 7am (up the hill).

That’s right … and I’ve tested this on a couple of occasions. We stayed in Champery last year - we opted to pay for passes in CHFs, these could only be activated in the Swiss sector (and vv).

@Chaletbeauroc, @franga,
I had a similar issue a couple of years ago in Espace Sant Bernardo.
I bought a two x day pass in La Thuile.
Started my day in La Thuile and skied over to La Rosiere to see some Pals.
Stayed on their couch in La Rosiere overnight then the next morning when I went to go through the turnstile in La Rosiere the pass would not work.
I went to the lift pass office in La Rosiere and they understood the honest error I’d made and managed to get my pass to work from La Rosiere after lots of head scratching and looking at the computer in the office.
