Does anyone know if you can ski down this side road coming off of Piste B into Morzine? (Assuming there’s enough snow)
Road name: CR dit la vey des gets
I’m staying down there in the first week of Feb and it would be cool to be able to ski to the door

I'm in Morzine. Got soaked today, but conditions underfoot are fairly good; a little patchy or slushy on the lower slopes, but up top is generally excellent. Hoping for less rain/more snow tomorrow! Been very mild today and yesterday.

It looks fairly cold for the next few days. Is snow making likely to be happening on those lower slopes?

Dunno, but I would expect them to run the cannons and replenish areas affected by the rain.

I wouldn't have thought so given next week's temperatures - they'd want to preserve water for February HT / French school holidays ...

Hope they do get cannons on, we are coming out month end and it's looking like it needs a good dump and low freeze zone.

@Ozboy, @Chaletbeauroc, @DJL, thank you all so much. Very much appreciate the insight. Looking forward to exploring a new area - even if it might be in a t shirt

@tfibz, It will be sunny (clue is in the name) but not sure from where you are getting t-shirt forecast. The sun is still low and there will be great conditions on the mountain. Looks like there will be a high pressure system in place for the next couple of weeks bringing settled weather and cold nights for snow making. Choose south facing slopes in morning and northern slopes after lunch.

Heading out to Chatel on Tuesday for 10 days. Weather report shows a row of sunshine symbols until the 23rd!

Just back in the apartment at Petit Chatel after dinner in town. Now light snow and 0C at 1300m after raining most of the day. Looking good for next week once the slush has frozen.

Popped out for a couple of hours in Morzine/Les Gets today. Conditions underfoot were surprisingly good considering the rain. Slightly icey chop underneath with the new soft stuff on top but very skiable. The new snow is also making everything look a lot better than the past couple of days. Currently snowing in Morzine town and supposed to continue for a while but the snow line is forecast to increase slightly this afternoon/evening so we'll see what we get. I think anyone coming out next week will have great conditions, with maybe a little faible enneigement in lower high traffic areas.

Very encouraging - we're out for a few days next weekend. Sounds like Piste B and some of the lower stuff might be one to avoid.

I'm in Morzine from Sunday with family joining me from Tuesday. Feeling pretty optimistic and 'hoping' for a drop in temps so that everything holds up well.

Well it's not got above zero all day today at 1300m in Morgins. Light snow falling on and off, but just a dusting at this level, I expect more higher.

@kinger123, Yes it will be good - wont be spring like as sun much lower in the sky and north facing slopes remain in the shade for a large part of the day in January. It will be very cold this week at night which will be good to top up the lower slopes. They were bombing higher slopes this morning and it is currently snowing in Chatel village. Next couple of weeks will be quiet on the slopes.

Thanks @Ozboy, I'm really looking forward to getting out there now. The last couple of years haven't given us the best conditions in the lead up to our visit so really hoping for a for something great this time around

@kinger123, another day of snow forecast tomorrow the sun due to come out. The snow won’t disappear before you arrive.
I have a guest staying and we decided on a PDS day today so bought a pass for the full area, but when we got above Plaine Dranse Chaux Fleurie was closed. No problem we thought, head via Linga to Super Chatel and to Swiss side that way. Les Combes was closed! (Iced up apparently). Skied down to PLJ and the caisses said they thought Chaux Fleurie would open later, so back up Rochassons and over to Lindarets. So over to the Swiss side we thought. Prolays closed! Run down to Ardent was horrible came back up and stroke of genius, take Lechere and Cases, up Lechere but Cases was closed! Back down to Lindarets and Prolays was open so headed up and through Avoriaz, down Crot (horrible) for a coffee at Les Cotes, down to Prodains (horrible). Up to Avoriaz and up Intrets. Wind getting up now so despite Chavanette being open for access to Swiss side we headed back for a late lunch at Plaine Dranse, then a couple of laps of Cornebois and home for tea and medals.
Not the greatest day in constant light snow but the pistes were much better late on and bodes well for next week.
* “horrible” means chopped up soft stuff on top of scraped icy patches. Did for one Brit on the run to Prodains who was blood waggoned off. Some style though to film his journey down by phone!

Stop worrying - nothing you can do to change the conditions and assume you are going regardless. FWIW, spring is my favourite time in the PDS as some soleil will be good for the soul given the awful UK weather.

@DJL, Sounds like you earned the medals and hope you made the most of lunch. Any idea why so many lifts were closed?

At least some were iced up (I asked the liftie at Les Combes). Suspect this was the case for most, they were all the high ones. Last nights rain falling on cold metal?
The wind was no worse when they were closed than later when they opened. French Mosettes always seems to be closed, for no obvious reason.

@DJL, I suspect they keep French Mosettes closed when it’s quiet to save energy as they have Lechere and Cases.

@Ozboy, Not IME. We've often relied on it at close of play to get back to Morgins. It's slow, windy and cold, but it's never let us down yet.

Pistes much improved today, perhaps 10cm fresh snow at the top of the area. Visibility very variable and goggles icing up skiing through the clouds.

Good morning, just arrived in Les Gets last night. Can anyone recommend a good/friendly ski shop that would adjust my ski bindings to new boots? And possibly book for a ski service tonight. Thanks.

Morning - try Delavay Sports on Route des Pistes (opposite the Irish Pub terrace). They happily adjusted the bindings on my son’s own skis last year. Good luck

Hello Snowheads, hope you're all well. I'm heading out next weekend and staying in Les Prodains. Can anyone recommend a decent shop for a snowboard service, edge and wax, please? I'm guessing Avoriaz 1800 will be most convenient from there?

@ScoobeStu, Thanks. I'd always go to Antoine Ski in Avz for ski stuff, I assume they're good with boards too. They're on the main drag opposite the tourist office.

We were out early (for us) this morning and round “The circuit” PLJ-Lindarets-Les Crosets-Champery-Champoussin-Morgins-Super Chatel-Linga-PLJ. Sunny but v strong wind and -10C at 0930. Bitterly cold on some of the high lifts. Almost all pistes in v good nick and quite a bit of snowmaking on the Swiss side.
The goulash soup at Bochasses was most welcome.
Tired legs now.

Not quite so early for us and no circuit as wasn't sure about the sunny Sunday crowds. We went from SC to Torgon (downloaded) but looked like it was skiable too, although the piste is closed and over towards the Panthiaz bubble. Surprised to see that the restaurant at the top of the Braitaz chair is closed, not sure if it's permanent. Sunny and also bitterly cold at times, scored some very nice off piste, also tired legs. Agree with @DJL, goulash soup at Bochasses is great, went there last week and will definitely return.

@DJL, sounds like a great day - hope not too busy. How is the shuttle bus service linking Morgins and the old Corbeau lift on the Châtel side? We’ve been fortunate in the past where we’ve been able to ski all the way to the church when coming from the other direction.
|
|
|
|
|
|
@alj, Sadly this restaurant will not open in winter due to the inconsistent snow impacting skiers who want to come over from Châtel. They will open in summer.

|
|

@Ozboy, yes a great day, not at all busy on the Swiss side once past Les Crosets. Shuttle to Corbeau was waiting as we came to the bottom of Follieuse, hardly a delay. The short run down to the Culets drag lift is not in great shape though. Stones much in evidence and icy.

Someone from the Morzine Facebook group created a petition to highlight the need to create single queues at busy lifts to help maximise occupancy of chairs during busy periods. This is particularly a problem on Tour where chairs go up half full at rush hour in the afternoon. I have no idea why they don’t have these queues in place. Feel free to sign and share if you wish.
